The University Club of Western Australia reviews
49Such a great venue however if you don’t go in the front door signage for events is not apparent. Events are only signed on the electronic sign at the front door, got a bit lost. The amenities are great and the service is fantastic. Very impressed.
Good and pleasant surroundings
Food very good
Some dishes excellent
Always activities to consider offered for members
Well looked after at professional learning day. Great food, friendly staff and fantastic views of the river
Love the uni club: a place on the grounds of University of Western Australia with a great cafe and restaurant. You need to be a member and they have these fantastic nights including featuring certain vineyards or themed nights. Love this place!
Amazed how professionally run this place was. Proper restaurant quality food and amenities were top notch
Food was fresh and cooked to perfection. Plating was so good just looking at it made me hungry. Food was tasty. Service was top notch and couldn't be faulted. Plenty of free parking at the uni in the evenings. Overall I was very impressed!
I may be utterly biased because this is my alma mater but I love coming to eat at the uni club cafe. It’s true the entire facility is amazing and the upstairs formal dining is also phenomenal (as are the rooms available for hire for events), but I love the cafe on the ground level too. The food is good quality and the menu is quite broad for a cafe, the prices are reasonable especially if you’re a member but importantly the ambience is just great. Fantastic place for lunch or brunch! The views don’t hurt a bit and you can soak up the college vibes too! There are great walkways and you’re in a fantastic area when you’re done. Pop by if you’re around!
The club remains open with plenty of events, upgraded space of the cafe. Pleasant views seating outside.
The UWA club is one of mixed identities. As if it’s still trying to work out what it is.
Take the cafe. The grounds are lovely, overlooking the lawns and Matilda Bay shore. But as a cafe, there are still quite a number of things to work on.
Breakfast service. Crowded. New buffet. But it’s a mash of scrambled eggs, soft bacon, tinned baked beans and generic hash browns on soggy toast. With a muesli and fruit buffet. And don’t even get me started about the mushrooms in a bath of cream sauce that look like it has barely been touched. Think of food at the Airport lounges. The coffee is still yet to arrive after 30 minutes and you can tell the staff are under pressure, given the length of the queue to even order your breakfast. The cashier even had to be prompted to give me a plate.
Dinner. Has a pub vibe. Themed buffets are usually acceptable but again, the menu ideally should modernise in creativity and execution.
The patronage is also mixed. In the restaurant, it tends to be the older, reserved crowd. Noisy dinner conversations and phones are (understandably) not condoned. It has that air of pretence. The staff have been there a while and know the members. The food, is reliable and ‘safe’. One of their strengths is you can almost always get a booking. The wine list has gradually crept up in price ; as has the meal pricing. So be aware that it approaches fine dining pricing. YMMV.
Then there are functions. And here, the UWA club can shine. Central location. Ample parking. A communicative functions team. And facilities to hold every function from a large conference to a simple dinner.
So I’m not sure what the UWA club is. Or who their target patrons are. It seems like it is trying to appeal to all but still has some way to go.
Service was very fast, food was tasty. Only issue was they didn't have Midori or Malibu at their bar
There are two eateries at this club. This review is for the downstairs Cafe only. Lovely location. Beautiful views of verdant lawns. Comfortable seating. Huge opulent building. Big foyer, huge doors, marble. You get the drift. And then there's the food. Oy. And the coffee. Vei. Pity.

Friendly staff. Great coffee and good range of food for lunch. A place to meet colleagues, in formally.
It is a lovely and convenient venue for a meal before attending a show on the campus. My opinion is the complimentary glass of house wine that was offered with the meal did not live up to the standard of the venue - particularly the white. I may be somewhat out of touch with costs of eating out, but I thought the food, although well presented and tasty, was expensive for the nature and quantity of the dishes. The deserts were, I thought, definitely overpriced.
The staff were lovely, friendly and efficient, and made the dining experience otherwise pleasing.
Warm welcome as usual & again a very happy atmosphere despite the covid restraints. Food was -as ever - fresh & delicious. Many thanks to the busy staff.
I have attended a couple events at the club and each time the staff have been very professional. The ambience is great for formal events. The food doesn't disappoint as well. All in all a great place to organise formal brunches or dinners.
Restaurant has very good food at reasonable prices, with brilliant ambiance. I really like this place, taking any excuse to go there.
Amazing location. A great place to change the world over a glass of wine with a global research leader from UWA
Went to Coral Coast Travel Gala with Stephen Scourfield at this venue. Lovely spacious venue, great parking and comfortable surrounds. Amazing food with a brilliant chef Costa! Very happily recommend this wonderful venue
We are lucky to have this at UWA, now they just need to get a greater selection on the wine list and all will be good
