The Townhouse reviews
53Consistently excellent food, coffee and service. Vibrant atmosphere with staff that are friendly and considerate. If you care how your coffee tastes, then this is the cafe for you. Not only because they have great beans, but they care how they make it. I have been to many cafes. This is the one that i always come back to. It is refreshing to see people that work there care about what they do. From kitchen to wait staff, it is consistently high quality. I have recommended The Townhouse to friends, family and co-workers who all have changed to this cafe being the regular go to.
Clarification on a particular review that mentioned my review is incredibly inaccurate yet the other review did not state 100% the truth of what happened.
1. What actually happens (It's long. I'm sorry but it seem neccessary before someone painted their own picture)
Once we reach the cafe, we have sent 1 person to check if we can request for a table that could fit 6 pax indoor. One kind waitress offered to help us arrange 2x extra chairs and a kid chair near the window.
That table is the only one available indoor & spacious enough to fit some extra chairs w/o getting into other patrons' spaces. So we have decided to walk into the cafe and patiently wait at the side. We have not moved any furniture and after waiting for about 10 mins, the waitress that offered to help was no where to be found.
We decided to reach out to another waitress at the counter. We asked for some help on the chairs and she mentioned that we can't expect her to move furnitures from other tables to give it to us. First of all, that is not what we expect the staff to do. We were under the impression that someone could get some extra chairs for us and not take it from another table.
Yes. She has mentioned that there is a table outdoor. We had declined that offer because it was approx. 41 degree outdoor and we have a toddler that couldn't stand the heat. We will be more than happy if the staff told us they can't accommodate the request politely and were ask to leave.
But instead, we were being told off and said declining the table outdoor is OUR PROBLEM. Not sure if this is really the attitude for a cafe with 5 star service.
We are more than happy to be offer another solution of splitting the table but we were told off and ignored after. Staring at us, making small talks to other waitress and laughing the whole time is their solution instead.
We decided to stay still because we saw the good review and we can't judge the cafe's food as it is based on that 1 person's attitude. We have no issue with the rest of the waiter and waitress. We ended up splitting ourself up into 2 tables without moving any of their furnitures. The toddler ended up sitting on the normal chair too. So please do tell me where is the abuse of the poor staff and the moving of furnitures comes from?
2. There are more than 1 waitress at the counter while we were there and I've not specifically mentioned that waitress is in the image I've posted but seem like ppl have assumed who it is. The photo meant to show what we have ordered, and as you can see, there are no sharing plates on the table so where is the moment of offering to move plates? We ordered only after being told off that it's our problem for declining the table outdoor.
3. We did not finish the food so how did a toddler at the age of 2 hold up a plate made of glass/ceramic and start licking it? What's the point of pulling in an innocent child in a review.
4. Language. We have not used a single inappropriate word/vulgarities in the review or in the cafe. We are a foreigner in a foreign country and we are educated enough to understand to mind our own language. We did not want to cause trouble onsite so we had what we could and leave.
So really, is that review entirely true or just how ppl are treating ppl?
Felt that I need to make my point and not being accused and I've done it. I wish to not engage in any further negativities. Thank you.
My Review
A terrible experience that ruined a perfect morning for me and my family. Seems like the high rating on Google doesn't realistically reflect real-life experience.
Food is mediocre at best. What's terrible is the attitude of one particular waitress at the counter. The real problem lies within self-reflection on what's appropriate to treat an Asian family of 6 with 1 kid in this day and age.
So disappointing that I highly wouldn't recommend it if you have a toddler and also looking to enjoy a peaceful brunch when you are coming over for a holiday.
Not worth being treated with a bad attitude and prejudice no matter how highly rated the place is online.
My 1st visit to Townhouse and loved it. Lovely ladies working there, great coffee and yummy lemon slice
Town house breakfast x 2, Salmon egg benedict x 2. Beautifully cooked and big serves. Did not finish all of it even though we were hungry. Granola bowl was the best. Great coffee to finish off our meals.
No pics taken, could not wait. Presentation exceptional. Will be back again and again.
The best restaurant in Bunbury for breakfast and lunch offers excellent staff, timely service, and delicious food
We wanted to try somewhere new for breakfast to change from our usual Cafe. We were not disappointed! The iced coffee was perfect, the food was spot on, service was lovely and food came out quickly and was a generous serving. Will be back to this place and be our new go to Cafe spot! Will just mention that due to the size of the cafe it can get quite loud if theres a large group of people talking. Bigger venue would be great but all in all was a great experience! Thankyou
Good coffee but food wasn’t the best. Got a pale shakshuka that was very runny, sour dough on the side with some extremely salty feta on top, tried my best but couldn’t finish the whole thing.
Server was a middle aged lady that might have been new as I overheard her saying she drove from over east a few weeks back. Quite unsure when I was asking about a dish I saw online but couldn’t find on the menu, instead of helping, server was very dismissive and rushing even though it was a slow weekday at the time of visit.
Amazing breakfast huge servings. The bacon is delicious! Coffee is on point. Lost a star for service as we were not given a table number and the ladies took a while to figure out the order was ours. Otherwise they were fantastic.
Really good atmosphere.
Best ice coffee ever.
We will be back!
If there is one breakfast / brunch place that you have to visit in Bunbury, this is it!
Food and service are amazing. The maple chicken & bacon pancakes …. Don’t think, do order these! You will not regret it!
Great coffee too! 10/10
Found The Townhouse as I was passing through Bunbury this morning. The menu looked interesting and printed at the bottom of the menu was that half servings were available. When asked the waitress didn’t know and went to the kitchen to enquire. The conversation that I overheard and the body language of the employee that I could see sent the distinct impression that they didn’t want to do it. I lost any confidence in what I would receive and went left.
I only asked for a half serve because it was on the menu.
Don’t offer if you won’t do half serves
As a coeliac person, this is hands down the most accommodating and delicious place I have found around Australia. Almost every menu item has the option to be GF!
Would definitely say this is the breakfast spot in Bunbury. Came here 6 years ago and remember being wowed so we came back. Eggs were incredible and the food was just delish. Great job guys
Townhouse does a great coffee, the food and service is good. I think 3.5 stars would be more accurate.
Not a great experience; ordered a coffee frappe and had emphasised the ‘frappe’ multiple times, but it came out as an ice coffee. Waitress kindly offered to remake it but when another waitress (the same one who incorrectly took my order) brought it out she was quite rude when we asked for sugar syrup or something to sweeten the drink. Eventually she brought us sugar diluted in hot water but very reluctantly.
Found the savoury fried chicken pancakes to be nice but everything else was just average, with service really lacking. Overall I’m not too sure I’ll be back.
Cool little intimate cafe very chill atmosphere has a nice area out back perfect for summer. Really nice coffee and food.
Amazing, really great eggs. Tumeric and Matcha Latte are wonderful and clearly made by experienced baristas.
The best potato roasti I ever had! Perfect mix of herbs and good size. Price's also reasonable. Will definitely recommend +
Best coffee! The new food is amazing, can’t go past the pancakes, smashed avo and chilli cheese scramble
Great atmosphere, food quick and delicoius. Just need to teach wait staff clear empty used tables after serving food to patrons
We ordered the Lamb flat bread, Brisket melt, kid pancake and a tropic thunder. They were all very delicious. It was our best meal down south. Glad that we came to your cafe:)
