55Would have preferred the restaurant to be a little more up market re food and service.otherwise, with the current mode of service and food selection perhaps a more cafe-style decor might suit.no ORGANIC wines.what is it when we are in one of the great intl wine-growing regions there isn't one ORGANIC wine on the menu? Sulphides kill people eg particularly those with allergies.time to step up! Food quality and quantity okay for the average aussie but would have been nice to have more raw veg and salads on a more gourmet style menu for us healthy pure bloods.why i brought my own freshly picked from the garden salad; however, the waitress seemed a bit rude telling me off for bringing my own food.sorry but when one is used to eating fresh food it is hard to eat a lettuce that was picked 7 days prior.apparently it is now a safety hazard to take one's own healthy side dish to a public eating place.too many rules in australia.we are now being controlled left, right and centre.sad to see the old world dissipate.but, hey, the chocolate brownie was over-the-moon! Extra star for that one.
Local watering hole with great band room and bistro. Great pub feel. Meals are good but not amazing, atmosphere is always nice.
Our food took so long to come the other side of the table ate their food before ours arrived. No explanation or apologies.
We ordered before the other side of the table also
We ate at the pub and thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The masala lamb ribs and the caramelised brussel sprouts were amazing. Would recommend to anyone looking for accommodation and a tasty meal (and drink).
Central location with all types of accommodation to suit business and family stays. Friendly staff at the front desk and in the bar/restaurant - and just a great relaxed vibe.
Plenty of parking within walking distance (5min) of town centre.
Rooms were very well appointed, clean and well provisioned.
Volleyball and tennis courts, as well as an EV charging point around the side carpark.
Highly recommend staying here
Came last night for dinner, ordered the Scotch fillet steak, what we got for $42 was a peice of floppy fat, how on earth could you think that was acceptable, very poor
Amazing location, food was average. Best part was this caramel chilli dipping sauce for the chips.
Came to the pub for dinner.
Better pasta than we had at the Italian in town, and a tastey burger.
Courtyard is dog friendly and the inside of pub has a English feel with some cosey spots in bay windows- if you book!
Happily recommend
We had dinner at the restaurant. Although the decor was a bit dated it had a great atmosphere, my wife and I each had the Thai fish salad which was absolutely delicious.a very enjoyable evening.
Recently had dinner and drinks with some mates at The River Hotel. I’ve been to The River a few times, and each time the food and service has been great.
The food was hearty and delicious. Not pretentious, not trying to be something that it’s not. Just pub grub cooked the way it should be.
Location wise, The River is a little out of the way when walking (from central Margs). But it’s not too far, and worth the extra steps.
The food is local, fresh and delicious. Something for everyone. Could use a cocktail menu:)
Did not stay in the hotel, only went for lunch. Great menu, big servings and very enjoyable. The bar service and food service was good. Family friendly as hordes of laughing happy kids were there for early dinner.
Food was fantastic the portions were a good size the facility was a good size with room for live music
The River has fast become one of our favourite pubs in the region. Very chilled. Loads of seating areas. And in the mild autumn evenings it is good to sit outside, under the lights, with a beer.
The food was absolutely delicious and we were served very quickly. The Brussels sprout starter was great and chocolate brownie just blew us away
Can't describe the food or service. Had a 7pm booking for 7 people, rocked up 30 minutes early and were told by one staff member that a large (local) group had just sat down in our spot.
The place was packed when another of 4 rocked up and were greeted by name, asked if they had a booking. They answered no but were given a table.
With all the "support" advertising and reterick and how "Hard" business down south is struggling.
What a load of crock. NEVER AGAIN
So, this is a nice place to eat but the menu is just not it. People want popular, yummy foods and personally I couldn't get anything to eat since it's all odd mixtures of food. I did end up trying the Chili prawn and bacon and the bacon just didn't match the food at all! This is a cute hotel to stay at with a nice view but the food should be a bit better for the people staying there.
Staff were acting rather strange, table had a wobble, strange smell and I left feeling rather uneasy.
Can take almost everything off the burger yet! The kitchen doesn't have the capacity to add bacon? Yet bacon on other food items. Absolutely absurd
Easter long weekend, great prompt service, beautiful clean area lovely food. Was a great experience, thanks
