The restaurant owner treats staff badly. After working for over one month, we did not get any pay slip. The owner gave us cash to pay less tax. When we are fired, we did not get any compensation. So it’s better not to eat there!

I don't know how this place has a 'good' rating.
I paid $18 for the largest dish they have to offer when I asked them.
Turns out to the size of half a breafast bowl, mostly filled with rice.

Menu is confusing and inflexible.
Food was also pretty meh given it's price point.
Will not be going back.

Came here with two of my family members yesterday for lunch. The waitress who presented us with our menu notified us of the set menu for 2 pax at $59, which includes 5 items. The three of us initially decided to get that set menu with additional sushi rolls to complete our meal. However, when we made such order the waitress said we can't do that but to have this set menu catered to the three of us at an altered price ($59/2 x 3). Being pressured by her wait on our decision, we gave in and agreed to her recommendation. Their food was okay, however dropped in quality. They seemed to have changed the recipe for the sauce of their salmon oshi, which we did not enjoy. Their chicken tempura, although crunchy lacked flavour. Our bill totalled to >$90, which was not worth at all for the quality of food and service that we got. I do not understand the logic behind this set menu, where everyone is strictly required to participate if you are interested. We will not be back.

Food is great, couldn't fault it, but the place needs a clean. Table was sticky. Windows look to have never been cleaned. Lighting didn't set the mood of the food. Place could be fantastic with a bit of effort put into the premises.

Food is OK. Some dishes on the salty side. Mt Lawley venue is noisy and seating arrangement could be more comfortable. Room for improvement.

***Call stores first*** Typically delicious Japanese food, but don't make any bookings or orders online until confirming the store has re-opened (closed without notice late April). They haven't updated the website and are still accepting and taking money for orders online - with no way to contact after to be refunded. Just a heads up to everyone

Absolutley worth the wait, the poke bowls were off the chain.we have only ever had delivery until today. The sashimi poke bowl had tuna, salmon & kingfish decent size for the price. Dan's wagyu beef bowl was also epic with a side of takoyaki balls on their lunchtime specials list.very happy thank you Modern Eatery.

Have you ever had fried sushi?
It's a must if you go in this Japanese restaurant.

The assorted sushi tray also it's a good choice.

It was a lovely dinner! Light tempura, delicious seafood, awesome gyoza! Very good portion of Miyazaki chicken with a yummy salad! Wide tables and friendly waitresses!

My 2nd time to be in The Modern Eatery but 1st time in Mt Lawley, used to be a different restaurant hence the interior looks familiar. In anycase, they are a bit on the pricey side but you get what you pay for. We ordered Chef Aburi Sushi, Unagi Aburi, Miyazaki Chicken, and Salmon Roll (forgot the name). The aburi are nice and fresh, presentation is always superb, unagi is awesome since its a proper size and really tasty, chicken is tender and crispy, the salad that come was also nice and fresh, a good place to chill and have a date or even a place to drink since they are fully licensed for alcohol. You can get sake and japanese alcohol too. Overall is a nice place to go. Highly Recommended

Nice little Japanese restaurant with great seafood options. My favourite is still the salmon aburi!

We went to The Modern Eatery and had a mukbang. Plates came one after the other and they were all fantastic. The service was awesome, and the atmosphere is great. Very high quality, and not overpriced.

Oishii.

A fresh, vibrant and inviting restaurant venue, with the highest quality food accompanied by amazing hospitality. Was discovered at random as an alternative to some other Japanese restaurants in Fremantle that have recently closed down, and was incredibly impressed at the service offered and the range of enticing options found on the menu here. 11/10 recommend for any occasion if you’re after guaranteed quality in a contemporary dining space.

One of the nicest and most pleasant Japanese meals I’ve had. Really good food all round and not too expensive. A good reason for more people to visit Mt Lawley.

Had the vegan degustation which consisted of 6 delicious and light meals but still definitely satisfied.

Great little place. Friendly service and delicious food. It got a bit loud as the evening got on, so I’m glad we went early.

Incredible food as well as friendly and prompt service. Highly recommend Kamikaze Sushi, Assorted Tempura and especially the Nasu Dengaku (deep fried eggplant with miso paste) which was surprisingly good.

Best sushi in Perth!

Very indulgent, heavenly presented food. A treat to all the senses! You can’t go wrong ordering anything in the menu, but “fry me to the moon” it’s hand down the best thing ever.
