Apparently they had a serious fire through this museum (or part of it) a few years ago and it's a tribute to the hard-working volunteers that you'd never know if they didn't tell you.
Stacks of interesting exhibits and a good historical overview of Busselton and the surrounding area.
Well worth a visit!

I love community museums, with their eclectic collections and everything on display ethos. The central story here is around the dairy industry as it is in an old butter factory. But there is plenty of other material.
A gorgeous location on the banks of the river would be lovely to bring a picnic with you.
There were limited stories with objects, which would have made a difference. I also couldn’t find much about the local aboriginal communities and their relationships to the industry and events displayed. This would have also been a great addition.
I visited with a 6,10 and 14 year old who all found interesting elements to look at.
It really is an interesting way to spend a few hours. And you don’t have to exit through the gift-shop.

So interesting. An incredible range of indoor and outdoor displays. Its not just about butter! Its about history with a huge collection of memorabilia. Displays of farm equipment, buggies, household items, a telephone exchange, settler's house and so on.
Interesting to learn about the group settlements scheme which brought settlers to Busselton.

We spent a long while exploring the museum and were happily suprised to see parts of the fire integrated as part of the exhibits, very educational and the staff were very kind.

Lovely volunteers. We were travelling with our dogs. The ladies let us put them out in the back garden while we went through to have a look. Shady and a great spot for lunch (but you have to bring your own). Will definitely go back next time passing through, so much to look at.

An extensive local history museum with knowledgable volunteers. It was easy to loose a few hours here as you make your way through the various themed rooms and out buildings.

Great place to wander through, Busselton is of particular interest to me because this was the first point of call for my grandfather, father and uncles and aunts before settling in Metricup. My great great grandfather on my mother's side of the family first came to Busselton and landed at West Street before moving to Nannup, Scott River and Augusta. He also ran a coastal cutter trading up the coast between Cape Leeuwin and Fremantle. The lady at reception was very helpful in assisting me to learn more about my heritage.

Bring enough time to see the many different tools and artefacts from the past. Indoor and outdoor areas and lovely pavilion at the water's edge.
Wonderful to learn about the history of the area.

Have never been in here before, as a Busselton resident I have passed lt a thousand times.
Take my advice and visit this incredible jewel in Busseltons crown. Something for all ages and will take a hour or two to take everything in.

Excellent. Took me back to my childhood and I still use some of what they had as exhibits myself as inherited from my mother!

Probably one of the best museums in the south of WA. Visited on a rainy August day. Staff friendly. Lots of exhibits covering it's days as butter factory, the last standing in WA.

The Busso Meseum is loving run by volunteers and located in what used to be the Butter Factory!
An amazing collection of local items dating back to the early days a of settlement. A great display of the old butter factory machinery items used. A credit to the community & pleasent surprise to tourists
