Steven Murphy Electrical Contractors

I recently engaged Steven Murphy Electrical Contractors for 2 tasks in my home. One of those tasks was to install an additional powerpoint in my kitchen. They had a look at my setup and suggested the best option would be to have a bench popup powerpoint and said that would be easy to install and they'd get back to me with options/costings. I agreed that the bench popup powerpoint would be good.

They went ahead and ordered it without getting back to me about costings/options, which was a bit disappointing, but I figured they said it was an easy job so not to worry.

However, it turns out that was not true because it became evident that when the second lot of blokes were here to do the actual installation, it took them more time than expected. If I had of known that before instead of being told it was easy, I would have reconsidered my options.

Anyway, long story short, I then receive the bill, they were charging me just under 2K for the installation of the powerpoint (labour + parts). Have you ever heard of a powerpoint installation costing almost 2K? I was flabbergasted.

To be fair, the workers did a good job and worked hard and meticulously - can't fault that at all. I do however find it hard to look past the fact that being charged just under 2K for installation of a powerpoint is the biggest rip off of all time.

I feel that this business lacks honesty and transparency and I will not be using them again in future.

UPDATE IN RESPONSE TO COMMENT FROM OWNER:

It is a complete and utter lie to suggest that I was told of these costs beforehand, in fact exactly the opposite is the case as I was led to believe it was an easy job when the work was initiated (and yes it became apparent as the job was being carried out that it wasn't as easy as it had been made out to be). The only time subsequently to that in which I was told a costing was when they contacted me to say "the part has arrived" and was told the cost of the part itself as around $250 (after they'd ordered it). I've gone back through my email history and there are no other costings until the invoice upon job completion.

Wow is all I can say. Customer service was outstanding and the workmanship was second to none. Highly recommended and will be telling all of my family and friends. Absolutely amazing guys thank you so so muc.

Power went out to half the house Tuesday evening (not what you need prior to a public holiday) so we contacted Steve who go onto one of his guys straight away for us. Reuban showed up within 45 minutes with a great attitude given we knew he'd actually finished for the day & then had to detour to us. He located the problem and had it fixed within 15 minutes. He was just a really nice guy & just who you wanted to show up when things weren't looking so flash.

This isn't the first time we've used the services of SMEC and it won't be the last. Yet again Steve, Reuban & the team thanks for a speedy response & great service:)

We engaged Steven Murphy Electrical to upgrade our down lights to LED and to fix a problem with a light in our storage locker. Electrician Steven and his apprentice arrived on time and explained all the work they were about to do. Throughout they kept us informed of how they were going. On completion they insured they cleaned up any mess and removed all old parts and rubbish. Most importantly they showed us that everything worked and ensured that we were happy with the work done. We were very happy with all aspects of the job done and would not hesitate to engage or recommend Steven Murphy Electral

BEWARE - I dropped off 2 table lamps a week before Christmas for rewiring. I was told that this work would be done on 28 December. I called on 10 Jan and the lights had not been touched. Every excuse was made and because I was so annoyed, I was asked to pick up the lights and take them elsewhere. I collected the lights this morning and told the receptionist how appalled I was by the service. She simply said they had been busy and then laughed. Avoid this company!

Recently while at home one 40 degree plus afternoon we all of sudden lost all power.
Immediately went to check meter box- smoke was pouring from it- headed for fire extinguisher but smoke soon settled and extinguisher not required
Rang Murphy’s Electrical and although electricians were fully booked for the day, they managed to attend to our predicament
Within a few hours Reuben attended our home after precalling as to when he would be arriving.
He repaired Fuse melt down and other affected parts.
Reuben is a courteous, friendly young man. Efficient at his job. Couldn’t recommend him more highly or the way Murphy’s managed our situation

We called Steven Murphy Electrical when our Daikin split system failed due to fusion the week leading into Xmas on the Tuesday. Wednesday morning one of their techs came and tested the unit to find it was cactus and required replacing. Oh great 2 days before Christmas.
But low and behold Christmas Eve the techs were back installing a brand new Daikin split in time for us to still host Christmas at our house. The new unit was up and running on a 40+ degree day and the techs worked tirelessly to get the job done in extreme conditions.
We were super happy with all aspect of the diagnosis to completed install and commissioning.
The techs cleaned up and did not leave a trace they were even here.
100% recommend them to anyone.

They do what you wanted done and it's done right. Sadly very questionable pricing since I used their services a year earlier.

Absolute rip-off! The bill came in at nearly three times what was quoted. Never informed us that there would be a difference in price. Will never use them again.

Very dangerous driving by drivers of this company almost caused an accident pulling out on the road in Fremantle

Thanks so much to Steven for great customer service. I contacted him for a quote and Steven came up with an advice on what need to be done to save the cost. I will definately be using this company in the future and highly recomended!

Shout out to Clay and the apprentice who were wonderderful. They fixed two tricky light fixtures, and remodelled a third, as well as installed two new powerpoints. The cost was very resasonable given the time and nature of the work. Highly recommended.

Recently we again called on the services of Steven Murphy Electrical and again we could not be more delighted with their level of service. We were about to list our property onto the market and called on them to make some overdue repairs. They were prompt and professional as always. They were able to diagnose our range hood above the stove as to being unrepairable and offered to purchase and fit a new one on our behalf. It was very old and quite specific to the spot it was fixed in. We didn’t hold great hope! We were blown away when they returned not long after with a new one and fitted it beautifully. We were also blown away by the reasonable price they charged. We couldn’t be happier with the outcome and won’t hesitate to call on them again.

Jake and his apprentice did a fantastic job installing security cameras on my property. They arrived on time and completed the job quickly and cleanly. Jake helped me download the app so I can monitor the cameras from my phone. Well done to Steve Murphy Electrical and his team! I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants quality products and professional service!

In July I have been recommended to use this company. Steven came himself to organise the quote, then he ordered the materials and his men came to do the job in my house. It took all together 3 days.
Everything was done perfectly. I have now reused this company to have all my light fixtures fitted and here again great service. I will def recommend this business around me. Not cheap but it’s def worth the money.

Do not engage without a fixed quote.
Their estimate was either miss leading and/or woefully wrong!

They are fast, efficient, polite, clean and take great care when installing any appliances or lights. Could not recommend them highly enough.

Have used them multiple times before. This time, smoke coming out of the reticulation controller prompted an urgent call for help 7am on a week day (turned out to be a blown starter capacitor for the bore pump). Steven (the owner) was very understanding and made sure the problem was attended to the same day and the blown part replaced the next day. Thanks should also go to Cindy who has been very helpful on the phone. Very responsive and caring service. Will definitely use again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED +
