I was looked after by a nurse named Joanne after my sinus operation, she was fantastic, I felt so cared for. Decent food too!

Just left after my tonsillectomy and it was by far my best experience in a hospital. I had a scottish nurse called Jo and phillipino nurse called Camille who were both super friendly and caring.

Stayed 2 nights for a surgery and the nurses on the ward were compassionate and professional. The food was so fresh (far better than I’d expected) and my private room was clean, quiet and comfortable. Would highly recommend this hospital.

My husband has had a hip replacement at SPH, and the experience has been excellent. The staff are so caring and professional, from the front desk to the cleaning staff. The food is truly exceptional, generous servings with delicious flavourful home style meals. Our treatment here has been really lovely, the care my husband has definitely helped his recovery. The physios, Vivian and Bernie, the admin staff, nurses who were all just so caring.we Thank you so much.
SPH your staff and facilities are highly recommended.

I had to spend over an hour helping an elderly relative to complete an admission form on the computer, print, sign, scan and email back to the hospital. This created so much stress and anxiety for us both. What a joke.

My baby had a procedure at south Perth hospital yesterday and all of the nurses and staff were just so friendly and kind. They made sure you knew their names and took the time to talk to you and check on you. Couldn't have asked for better care. Thank you nurse's.

Despite phoning and asking about bringing in children to visit, we drove over an hour to be turned away for having 1 adult and 2 children. Absolutely disgusting nurse on the door. Can not recommend this hospital to anyone.

I stayed in the hospital Room 10 from Monday 24 October till Wednesday the 26th.

Firstly I just want to mention how amazing and wonderful the crew of nurses I had over the 2 nights staying there. I can’t say it enough how lovely, kind and caring they where and how easy they made my stay and recovery. From checking on my pain, to helping me get out of my bed and walking again when I needed to. All in all the service was out of this world. Thank you so much ️

While I'm happy with the care my elderly mother has received, it's a nightmare for relatives and visitors. I respect covid has made it particularly difficult for all healthcare providers but I'm sure some smaller hospitals are using it as an excuse to limit visitors to cut down on the screening work for administrative staff at the front desk.

Before I visited I made sure of their visiting hours on their website and what I had to provide - RAT, certificate etc. No problem. You can not trust what is written on their website! I turned up on Saturday for the 4pm to 6pm block only to be refused entry. On the glass door their weekend hours are limited to 10am to 12pm. There were three very angry visitors at the door with me. One lady, who's husband was newly admitted with dementia, wasn't allowed in. She was apoplectic over concern for her partner.

My mother is legally blind. I have to help her with cutting up her food, recharging her tablet, downloading audio books (but wifi wasn't provided there) organising her clothing etc. If I'm not allowed in, that burden is shifted on to nursing staff or not provided at all. So while it may seem limiting visitors cuts down work for the gatekeepers at the front desk, it adds considerable work load to nursing/allied staff in the wards.

Every patient gets both bored and lonely in hospital. Visitors mitigate some of that. They boost morale. She can not see the phone or hear the ring - so if I want to speak to her I need a nurse to go to her room with the phone. They are already understaffed - I don't want to add to the problem.

There is provision for what is called an "essential visitor" at all hospitals but most don't highlight it and/or make the application so onerous it's just not worth the trouble.

Before she was moved to South Perth, she was in Fiona Stanley Hospital, Fremantle Hospital, Attadale Rehab Hospital over the past 2 months. All of them have 8am to 8pm visiting hours so South Perth can't argue it's standard or regulatory mandate. It's a policy choice they made.

My other issue is the lack of communication with me and/or my brother. Mum has an array of complex health issues. She forgets things, doesn't really know the drugs she is taking or even her previous surgeries. She knows this and likes me to sit in on every appointment as her advocate. My brother and I have power of guardianship. I haven't received a single call from anyone to inform me about her progress, changes to her meds or an estimation of when she can come home or whether she will need to go into TPC. I know doctors are busy but, at the very least, they could ring and let me listen in to the consult on speaker.

It's not only the limited hours but also the way it was implemented. Some staff members who spoke to me were just rude. I am disabled - I walk with a cane. For me just to get there is a painful effort. I turn up on Friday with clean pyjamas for Mum, I was curtly told I couldn't go in. Apparently she already had the "allotted number of visitors". I asked if they could take the bag to Mum. Fortunately a senior nurse happened to be at the front desk and said "for god sake, just let her in". After battling a long freeway traffic jam just to get there, I appreciated it.

Hopefully they will take these issues raised seriously but I will also be sending a letter to the hospital's board.

My 9 year old daughter recently underwent a adenotonsillectomy 26/8. The special care and attention we received from administration, to our surgeon and anaesthetist was absolutely outstanding. Our nurses in Park ward were incredibly special people who went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable with the highest quality nursing you could hope for. I cannot thank them enough ️

I was not given my antibiotics in the morning when i was supposed to at 6am the day after the surgery which i had early the morning befoure. I was discharged to get them from the chemist and told to take them at 2pm and miss the morning dose. I was also given vernal instructions on what to do with my cleansing rutine following nose surgery and also told to get the kit form the chemist. This is not what the doctor told me he said they would show me what to do. I mentioned this to the nurse but was met with resistance. So i cleansed for the first time at home. I found this scary as the instructions written on the packets is different to what to expect form what ent tells you on the phone. I ended up with burst stiches in my nose, and this is my nose for the rest of my life. I hope south perth keeps to protocols after reading this.
Also my partner could not come at the designated visiting hours as he was working and they were not acomidating of any other hours.

Admitted my wife for surgery 3 hours late. Because of strict 4-6pm visiting hours she wasn’t back to the ward in time so had to spend the night alone and without food. Visiting hours should be set for a time after patients are back from surgery and at a time people with jobs are able to get there, not at hours that are most operationally convenient for management. Staff are arrogant and uncaring.

There are some mixed reviews here but everyone has a different experience. I loved my time at SPH, the staff were amazingly kind and I felt very cared for.

Probably a bit understaffed as sometimes you have to wait a while after pressing the call button, but that’s not their fault—the people at the top need to focus their funding on supporting the staff and patients instead of themselves.

The level of care and concern for his well-being is outstanding. My partner Tony said they were absolutely wonderful he would happily come back here in the future if necessary.

My son recently had surgery at South Perth Hospital and we were to happy with our care! The nursing team are amazing and took such good care of our little boy. The Hospital seems a bit old and some of the lights in our room didn't work and there was a power outage twice whilst we were there.

Overall a really positive experience and would recommend this Hospital to anyone requiring surgery.
