South Metropolitan TAFE, Murdoch Campus reviews
25Big facilities, there's disabled access and parking, there's a cafe near the front entrance that you can download a app to order before hand it's called aroma cafe. Parking is q little limited, to be able to get a spot you either have to arrive really early before the Tafe opens or come at lunch time around 12, because students will be leaving to get lunch.
The so-called "student carpark" is too small, you have to get to the carpark at dawn to be one of the lucky few who can park on campus. You have the option to pay $21 per day at one of the nearby pay carparks. I'm sure $104 per week for parking is no problem for all students.
Wonderful I was offered a free beard and haircut in Hairdressing T block I stood up after beard and hair cut feeling marvellous with a job well done by the two guys who worked on me Many thanks
Only commenced last week, the lectures and cafe is excellent. I like how new and clean the facilities are.
I have only one big issue. The parking is awful and not accomodating for students. Highly insufficient for students for the number of students attending. Not acceptable, this is my first very negative experience at a South Metro tafe over the past 4 years I’ve been studying at Tafe’s in around Perth.
I won’t be coming back to this Murdoch tafe ever again once I’ve completed this course. Unless parking is rectified.
Amazing facility, friendly staff! Would definitely recommend if you are looking to learn something new. Parking is very limited so getting their around 7am or catching public transport would be your best options.
Disorganised lecturers who show up late and have no lesson structure. Nice campus but training materials are broken. We don't pay thousands to teach ourselves with broken equipment.
A great facility for education. Situated near the hospital it provides a pleasant environment to undertake further education and training under the TAFE banner. Courses are provided to meet current Australian Standards and requirements and the teachers are very friendly and most appear to have a love for what they do. The campus has a large number of students which makes it very busy at times especially in the administration areas and cafe. The major drawback is parking, this is a nightmare as only a small number of bays exist for students and usually parking on the street is necessary unless you are very early. Public transport is available with Murdoch train station very close and buses stopping next the the TAFE.
Admissions and head of IT (I don’t remember his name) lied to me that I wasn’t “eligible” to enrol in TAFE, while I graduated from NM TAFE last semester.
Amazing institution. Great lecturers. Awful parking availability. If you're a lecturer or student there after 7am, be prepared to spend $3 per hour parking at the hospital. Ridiculous.
Very professional, very happy to have these experience instructors helping mature age people keeping fit.
Many students have benefited from studies at SM Tafe. Professional staff with a vast array of qualification.
The staff of the Tafe were wonderful. Helpful. However cannot say the same for parking at the Tafe.
Shocking.
Suggest parking at shopping centre & catching bus.
Unprofessional, poor effort and terrible first impression with no consideration to your circumstances.
This TAFE offers online courses however only to students within the metro area. For anyone in regional areas down south or further east such as Bunbury or Busselton who are unable to move into the metro area or don't have the courses offered at their local institution are unable to apply.
The communication from the 'Portfolio manager' is short, unclear and unprofessional from what is meant to be from a training organisation and a professional in a managing role. I never received an indication why I couldn't apply or why it was strictly a METRO ONLY course as this isn't a requirement nor was it described on their website.
I intended to pay in full without concession for the course and even though this being a 'ONLINE' course I made clear I was happy to travel to the campus for inductions or to show competency when required however none of this was even a point of interest nor considered.
If this is the standard encouraged by this TAFE and if you're intending to apply from outside of the metro area I unfortunately wouldn't waste your time and look elsewhere, if they can't consider a full paying customer willing to travel and meet all standards and requirements before paying for the course what else are they not going to consider when it comes to your education after you've paid for the course.
You're just a number here, no personalised assistance or extra help with study. In my experience, I felt like I had to learn a lot myself through the computer and just 'get it'.
Computer 'glitch' sent out many emails to students saying they owed money. I owed nothing and had this confirmed with TAFE staff several times. They then proceeded to threaten me with a debt collector. This was very upsetting as I have never been late to a bill in my life let alone have a debt collector.
I had to then provide evidence to them that MULTIPLE other TAFE staff had already assured me I owed $0. You would think that the departments at the SAME campus would be aware of who did or did not owe money. Also, good luck if you drive a car (costs $$ to park, you have to get to TAFE 1-2 hours early just to get a park) because this campus does not support car drivers. Makes it very hard. Not everyone wants to or can use public transport.
I definitely suggest you find study options elsewhere.
However, beautiful campus though:)
The only thing good about this TAFE is the food most my class failed there cert due to a lazy lecturer being really rough on us. They also acted on emotions and really unprofessional at times also expected way to much from there students. A lot of people were scared to ask questions
A beautiful little campus with a majority of excellent lecturers, with easy reach of public transport and a short walk from Fiona Stanley Hospital (which has a wide variety of restaurants and a pharmacy).
Admin staff are wonderful people, although they often seem undermanned and unable to quickly respond to specific student needs. For most students, however, this rarely becomes an issue. This is a funding issue, not a staff conduct issue.
Parking is a major problem, with students fighting for parking up to an hour before classes begin. As of now, the parking is free (and I hope it remains free), but they definitely need more of it. As some classes start from 8am and end at 6pm, this can be an issue for many. Prospective students, be advised and consider your transport options so you're not caught out.
The lecturers here are absolutely lovely and if I was giving a rating solely on them it would be 5 stars, but the admin staff are absolutely hopeless. The tafe took minimum a week to get back to you and 9/10 if they actually ever get back to you its with the wrong information. I have done two courses with them now (decided to give them. Second chance) and needless to say I will not be doing another one hear ever again. If you like dealing with incompetent staff then I highly recommend going here, if not I suggest you stear clear of this place.
Pay a lot for the course there to not be able to get parking after 7: 30 have to get there a hour before my course starts
Website is down.i would like to research some information about courses and the units but page is non - existant.or not working?
So impressed by customer service centre, was given lots of very helpful advice as a tafe applier by Robert, student adviser. Thank you very much indeed again.
