South African Essentials reviews
12Great place to buy meat, biltong and other BBQ products. My favourite for years is the Texan steak!
Excuse my lack of culture and Aussie bogan hanging out.but i still dont know what this is called.but it is soooooo guuuudddd! Check out their kitchen, biltong and other dried tasty tasty goods.and the little pie warmer in the corner for their samosas and pies.cant fault this place.my stomach grumbles and mouth waters everytime i go to Joondalup and think of this place A+
Wow they have items on there shelves that expired in 2020 and they are asking full price I wonder who checks all this apart from us the customer
Went in today to grab a few things, ordered samoosas (which were delicious) and a mutton curry vetkoek. The girl who served us seemed quite timid. She ended up giving us a bunny chow which was ice cold. My Aussie partner has never had either before and grabbed the order from her. I didn’t realise she had given him the wrong item until he got in the car. I felt bad so didn’t take it back but the young staff could probably use better training to make sure they hear the customer right or repeat the order back for confirmation
Very disappointing.
Bought $40 of jerky this afternoon, wasn’t fresh, hard like old refrigerated meat. Used to be a reg customer, definitely won’t be back.
Check their expiry dates - very carefully. During my numerous calls to South African Essentials, I repeatedly told them that I was having a barbeque on the 14th November so it was imperative that the expiry dates for the meat I intended buying was within those dates. On Wednesday the 10th November, I called to confirm stock and was told stock had just arrived. I later bought 3 packs of lamb boerewors, and one boerewors party pack for the Sunday barbeque. I checked the first pack expiry date on the lamb boerewors and was satisfied with the 17th November date. But on arriving at my premises, I saw that the party pack expiry date was 10th of November, the day I bought the meat. I called them on 11th November to complain. Albeit they apologized and offered an exchange, their reception was dismissive, if not obnoxious. In trying to express my discontent, I was curtly told that they were busy trying to serve other customers. I think this is a poor show as for one, people mostly buy meat to cook a few days later. Secondly, meat sold on the day of date of expiry is normally discounted, if not pulled from the shelves. Thirdly, it is my time, my fuel and my transport costs - not theirs. So I have a right to complain. To South African Essentials - you have just shown your true colours and soured a once good relationship.
12th November 2021.
Further to your response below. You "suggest" the call duration of 15 minutes to address the issue, is not a brief call. I checked this - the call transpired on the 11/11/21 at 10: 06am, and the entire call duration was 4 minutes and 27 seconds. Duly, may I suggest that your timekeeping is atrocious. I could elaborate further on other aspects but have chosen to leave it at that.
Very disappointed after the fab reviews seen. We bought their Boerewoes. It was terrible. Bought some Traditional biltong - it was far too salty. Tried some South Africa Chocolates. They all were old and stale. We are sorry we visited their shop
I contacted South African essentials last month to enquire to if that stock hinds bbq spices, unfortunately they had none in stock. Last week they messaged me and told me they had them in stock and if I would like to purchase them. I put an order in and it was mailed down to Bunbury.
Thank you for such fantastic service! I had been mucked around by South African shops in QLD & NSW while trying to get hold of these spices. I will defiantly be shopping with you again and I look forward to visiting your store next time I’m up from Bunbury.
Bought Oumas pork borewors, sorry to say it was the worst sausage that I have
Tasted, was as hard as a rock no flavour no spices.
One of the only places to go for SA goods, just extremely pricey which is difficult to get over
Its the place to go if you need your south african essentials.a bit pricey since its imported foods, but what do you expect. Tried to source the same foods online and was met with higher prices.
Friendly, engaging staff. Some products cheaper than large Supermarket (at time of writing Pronutro better priced than Woolworths). They also have a awesome range of boerewors flavours (long sausage). I usually visit once a month to stock up on some foods not available at the supermarkets.
