Sleeping Pods by Smarte Carte, Perth Airport reviews
18At most people would need these for 5 hours especially as they're outside the transit/customs area so I will not be booking as it is $80 regardless of 8 hours or 4 and the reviews are bad - this is what it cost to hire an entire 4* hotel room at Kuala Lumpar airport for 8 hours.no thanks.
$80 is a lot of money to hear all the noises (even with ear plugs in) and be cold (only one light blanket is given). It served a purpose but probably won’t do it again.
The sleep pods were a convenient place to sleep for the 5hrs I had available. If I could a 1/2 star I would probably be a 2.5
Pros; convenient
Cons; very over priced for what is essentially a lay flat recliner with aeroplane pillow and blanket. I was very cold and a little less comfortable than I expected.
General info; The bed was ok for the for 5hrs, more like a leather lay flat recliner. Of note the earplugs worked fine for blocking the noise outside and i liked that the staff did wake up calls to prevent other users being woken by guests alarms. As above I was very cold in my leggings and shirt. I even had a second polar fleece blanket that I travel with.
Overall; if I desperately needed it I would use it again, but I would be sure to travel with thick socks, trackies, jumper and my own pillow. They definitely aren't value for money.
Suggestion to the business; is cleaning bedding an issue? Could you invest in proper pillows and perhaps some full size blanket or doona to make customers more comfortable. It would also make the pods seem much better value
After my flight arriving late, I didn’t get to sleep in my pod until 2am. My connecting flight is at 11.35am. How stupid to have a service that ends at 6am! … after 4hrs sleep for $80 I now have to hunt for a corner of the check in lounge to get some more sleep…. On the cold tiled floor.
Despite our booking confirmation email clearly saying we had to vacate by 6am we were woken up by knocking at 5am and then made to leave by 5: 30am even after conveying the 6am detail to the staff member.
After getting in at 2am rather than 11pm due to a flight delay this was a pretty rude kick in the teeth.
OVERPRICED for a pod in a busy walkway, with the sound of bags, people, cleaners, and airport annoucements. Not worth it at all.
It was OK to catch 4.5 hours sleep out of 5 hours booking. It would be better if the Pods are located in a quieter place. I am normally a sound sleeper, but still interrupted by the airport announcements. Price can be reduced compared to a night stay in a motel. It does not involve too much labour work anyway to maintain the Pods. I am sure this will be popular if it is reasonably priced, as there is no airport Hotel in Perth Airport.
Good idea in concept but the reality is little better than making do around the airport.
Terrible site selection. Noisy - bright flashing lights and right under one of the PA speakers.
You have to leave your bags across the airport. Basically a good idea executed poorly.
What a wonderful resource! Perfect opportunity to safely and privately have a sleep during a layover. Pods were clean and well designed, and staff were friendly and helpful. Yes you can hear through the pod walls and see light, but wear a mask and earplugs and you're good to go. It is an airport after all so not exactly a silent environment. I felt comfortable and not at all claustrophobic, and was able to sleep soundly for the whole 5 hours. Just note though. If you have big hard-walled bags you may need to store them in the nearby airport lockers as the under-pod storage is not huge (works fine for backpacks or medium-sized soft luggage).
Could have placed the pods in another location with less light and noise. Its definitely not worth it to pay that amount for a few hours of sleep. Rather book a hotel and you get to take a shower as well.
It was an ok experience, and largely as expected.
The biggest downside were the quarterly very loud airport security announcements which despite ear plugs interrupted sleep.
However, still much better than spending the night in a chair, and because the floor is not carpeted but tiled, you can't lie on it.
I arrived after midnight, and had an early morning flight, so it was a good alternative to getting a motel. With a similar time frame, I would do it again.
Pod was comfortable for sleeping, clean and well maintained. Definitely beats the cold airport floor and provides a sense of security and privacy. Powerpoints provided Storage under pod for carry-on sized bags and shoes/jackets etc. Noise and light an issue - I woke up and freaked out at 4am and thought it was daylight already due to the screen/billboard directly above shining through the vent holes. Probably a bit overpriced considering good airbnbs available nearby for ~$50 but no need for taxis makes it cheaper overall.
Very good idea however terribly executed. Materials of build are poor, poor craftsmanship and design, no suitable dim lighting, noisy and akward all round. Had to pay $6 hire for a pillow that probably worth half that. Traumatic experience. A refund would be greatly appreciated to start with, happy to pay this price in the future however, a complete revamping of the pods are the only way forward.
Horrible. Very bad price. And very rude man working there. Very loud. And bright. Couldn't sleep. Might as well find a corner of the airport to sleep in
This is a cool concept - very futuristic. Felt like I was in a sci-fi novel as I snuggled into my little sleep cocoon. But if you're expecting a deep sleep, you may want to consider a hotel room/air bnb. You can hear the security announcement go off over the PA system every 20 minutes and there is light that seeps through the 'breathing holes' of the sleep pod. Would be better if the pods were in a dimly lit room seperate from the regular airport commotion. Ear buds didn't do the trick for me here. But all of that aside, was still a good option to get a bit of rest while waiting for an early morning check-in. Recommend for short term only.
Looked good on the website then I got my first real look at one at the airport. Cheap, flimsy container with some air holes in the equally flimsy retractable roof. Laughable to expect people to pay the asking price to use one of these things. As a regular traveller I thought the concept was great but execution turned out to be disappointing.
Customer service was excellent. The cleanliness of the pod was spot on. Easy to find and easy to book. Unfortunately if it's a decent sleep that you're after, perhaps look elsewhere. Unless you are a deep sleeper.
I had expected it to be a bit more noise cancelling, and unfortunately the giant LCD display on the wall directly above the pods sends light into your face. The roller door style lid/cover has ventilation holes in it and the light passes straight through these.
Use the ear plugs and have an eye mask at the ready.
I'm 6foot 4 and fit comfortably.
A 50% price rise is just rude, used them 3 times but never again, absolutely ripping people off.
