RHW are a great grassroots organisation, supporting regional and rural remote health practitioners and the communities they live and work in. They have improved accessibility to professional development and provided career development support. An organisation that achieves what it set out to do.

Rural Health West has given me loads of support over the past 8 years or so, in my career as a Clinical Psychologist. Initially, I was fortunate to be granted a Clinical Placement Scholarship, which enabled me to finish my qualification much sooner than I otherwise would have been able to. Since then, they have provided ongoing support for professional development courses that have made a huge difference to the skillset that I can offer to my clients. Thanks Heaps RHW!

As a Physiotherapist working in the Pilbara, Rural Health West have provided so many valuable opportunities for professional development, helping to facilitate travel and accommodation. RHW have assisted with relocation and provided support and networking opportunities in the region through the Pilbara Health Professionals Network. Health care should be accessible no matter where you live and we are grateful for RHW supporting the community.

Rural Health West is fantastic in making support for rural and remote staff accessible. The organisation has added value to my service provision by supporting training that was considered meeting a need in our community and did so hassle free and in an enabling way. Also, RHW has provided workshops that proved valuable to me as a professional. Last but not least there is now a local network set up which I hope to see grow further.

Rural Health West allocated me scholarships to cover two years of study with William Street Family Therapy Centre, to support my work with young people having mental health issues. I had underestimated the cost of studying: specifically the costs of travel and accommodation, above course fees.
The scholarships made all the difference in me being able to attend without it causing me big financial strain: I provided my time and some travel costs like meals, and Rural Health West helped with the rest.
I am now finished the course and it has made a huge difference to how I practice with my young people at risk. It means I now have the confidence and skills to work with more challenging and complex families in the south coast region of WA, to increase thriving in their children and teenagers.
Rural Health West staff have always been helpful and supportive through the reimbursement process, just bear in mind there is a few weeks between submitting the reimbursement claim and the money being deposited in your account, so if you are lucky enough to receive one of these wonderful scholarships, make sure you have enough working funds to cover you for 4 weeks or so after the expense is paid.
I couldn’t be happier with the support I’ve received, both for myself and in the benefits that come to my clients through the upskilling process of this kind of training. Thank you!

RHW have supported my career development as a Speech Pathologist for the last 5 years in regional WA in the disability sector. I have been able to consistently participate in high quality PD, interstate/online conferences and post graduate study that has transformed the way I practice as Speech Pathologist and the service that I offer to regional communities.
