Princess Royal Fortress Military Museum reviews
20Those in Albany simply must not miss this. This place has an incredible history. Some of the exhibits and artefacts are very astounding. Observation posts, tunnels, and gun turrets are just a few of the sights to behold on the trek. We didn't realise how much the war affected our country's coastline at the time.
Brilliant show case of people and their memories of war. But leave feeling sad and disappointed with mankind
A fantastic and interesting place to visit our tour was very, very good, had a really good guide who knew the place very well. The Anzac experience was exceptional. Very good value, great and friendly staff and volunteers. The views were amazing.
Fantastic place that really highlights the human side of war through stories of individuals
A must see if visiting Albany. The history here is unbelievable. Displays and memorilbilia are incredible. Dont forget to do the walk, taking in the gun turrets, tunnels, observation posts, etc. We didn't realise how far down our coastline the war affected our Country.
Cool guns for kids and adults to test out and grab a pic. Bunker is also fun and informative. Walk to the top of the hill to get a great view out to the ocean and towards oyster harbour
As a military veteran, the visit was an eye opener to the Australian military history! Drove up an hour before closing and had the place almost to ourselves.
Visited Princess Royal Fortress on Mt Adelaide. The area and the lookout were freshened and upgraded when the National ANZAC Centre was built. There is no entry fee to the Fortress area - only the ANZAC Centre.
Very interesting. Close up view of military weapons. The turret was enormous. Views are great as well. The other museums across the road are also interesting.
A great visit to get an understanding of what we were faced with during WWII.
Have a fantastic view of the inlets and harbour.
Breath taking views from the top.
Lots of information on WWI and WWII. My 7 years old son thoroughly enjoyed reading about the convoys, strategy and defenses.
A beautiful place to visit and reflect on the history of our nation! I would recommend everyone visit this lovely place more than once because you always see things you didn't see the first time. The staff are most welcoming and helpful.
So much to see and so much history to learn and most for donation. You can even man and move anti aircraft guns. Amazing place and a needy reminder of the perils of war.
An absolutely well presented tour with volunteer Robert. Extremely informative and at a leisurely pace. To top it off, it's free!
Wonderful place and well worth visiting. History, National ANZAC Centre, restaurants, exhibits, walk trails, lookouts, memorabilia, etc etc, this place has something for everyone.
An incredible amount of work has gone into making this magnificent museum, one of which we can all be proud. A must-see, a place for reflection, and a place to honour those who served and continue to serve. Lest we forget.
A great day out in Albany at the Princess Roya meet Mike our Guide for the Morning from GI Auckland
Living insight into early settlement and a magnificent memorial to not only the first world war but also the second.
During the 19th century Princess Royal Harbour was such a strategic asset that the decision was taken to fortify it to help protect intercontinental trade routes.
At the Summit of Mount Adelaide, this fortress was completed in 1893 and remained armed until 1956. The fortress now hosts the National Anzac Centre, but there’s more to take in.
You can explore pre-federation heritage buildings and military structures like the underground magazine, caretaker’s cottage, barracks, batteries and repository store, together with collections of artillery and torpedoes.
The Ellam-Innes Collection holds a trove of objects relating to the 11th Battalion and 10th Light Horse regiments.
In the grounds you’ll get fantastic views of Princess Royal Harbour, Oyster Harbour, Middleton Beach and King George Sound.
