Portside Boulders reviews
19Visited Portside Boulders for the first time recently under a friends free visitor pass. Was a great experience being introduced to bouldering here, had a quick induction with the staff, hired some shoes and got going after a simple and easy registration. Easy for beginners, with wall markings colour coordinated. Love that it’s dog friendly too with beds, bowls and places to tie the leash
The building is great, super spacious. Cute cafe and shop with tons of stock - I recommend having a look at the tote bags. Lots of couches around and space to chill in between climbs which is a nice touch.
There’s a few walls that are filled nicely but the range of climbs available are not the best. Very much a comp style throughout every problem which I wish would be varied more. Pretty much everything is sandbagged and most routes have a dyno element, which isn’t ideal if you prefer a static style of climbing.
The gym has almost everything you could need. Mirrors would make it even better:)
If you’re looking at bringing kids here, it’s a solid idea. Plenty of small kids climbs and you can take them to the cafe when they run out of energy.
All in all it’s a good gym!
Strong contender for best boulder gym in Perth. The lay out allows for space between climbers which I prefer. Few good beers on tap for after too
Great gym, constantly updated.
Extra shout out to the girl working this evening - took a lot of time out of a busy shift to help me find a pair of shoes to buy that I'd be happy with.:)
One more star removed because you can’t pause the ticket when you are sick or injured…
Boulders are high quality but the setters are not really too creative with the technique, most of the time it’s only pure strength. Music is not too bad although it would’ve been great if the same Mac miller album wasn’t played in a loop all day long. However I don’t see Mac miller fitting to a workout where you need something more energetic. They really should pay more attention to the choice of music fitting for sport not for the joint afterwards ;)
Excellent fun, great customer service. First time I went had an introduction, it is very cheap to hire shoes and the mats are very soft. The rock climbing community is very welcoming and the experienced guys are happy to help show you how to climb up a wall. This sport will destroy your ego, I am a decently strong guy and struggles to get past V4 when the levels go up to v10. The cafe there is amazing as well, lots of goodies and smoothies and boardgames to keep you entertained when you have a break. You get a day pass however I get very fatigued and tired after about an hour. 10/10 would highly recommend for all ages as there are kids courses and pro ones aswell.
Big space with lots of range in route types. Can get very busy after work hours. Holds definitely need to be scrubbed more often.
Love the space, the equipment, bouldering and gym, everything was there. The bathroom floor is a little wet and you can't adjust the moon board to different degrees
Pretty good vibes here at this bouldering gym? ️. Lots of different inclinations on the boulder wall. Nice change rooms; has a ️ coffee machine; tables to sit down and chat.
You could probably work remotely from here and pad the day out with some bouldering. Make the best use of that entry fee.
I've been a member of Portside boulders since it opened, and love the vibe of climbing there! The boulder problems are varied (although definitely largely in the modern and comp style, with a preference for powerful moves over slab or techy stuff) and change frequently. The atmosphere is great, and a real community has been built up around it! My favourite of all the climbing gyms in Perth.
Having lead climbed for about 6 months now, I never bouldered before as the walls and matt at my local weren't appealing.
Had my first day at Portside today and have to say that I loved it.
Great equipment, the staff was fantastic and the vibe was super friendly and laid back all for decent fee.
I'll become a regular for sure.
Try it!
Great visit today. Staff are very helpful and know their stuff. Definitely recommend for a single or group event. The climbing community is really friendly, except in competitions recommend as a sport or activity.
Top bouldering in Perth. I'd say it was a hard wall if you were a complete beginner but still enough choice for a fun time. Nice for a beer after too. Music choice used to be a bit more consistently solid though when the owner was there, not sure people want super chill music when climbing.
Be warned, bouldering is addicting. First it starts with the Intro Pack, then next thing you know you've committed to an annual membership and bought a pair of shoes
Great facility with lots of challenges for all abilities. There seems to be a great community vibe going on to which I hadn’t expected as a newby.
New climbing spot in Osbourne Park. Friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere make for a good climbing spot.
I've been waiting years for Perth to have a boulder hall like this. Thanks for making it happen.
Lots of really fun routes. Floors are a little hard but they'll soften. Holds are a little rough but they'll smoothen. Friendly staff & guests, good lighting, and all around nice aesthetics; just really well managed, like the other portside. Will only get better with the addition of a water dispenser and more food and drink options.
Such a great space for a beginner like me. The staff a super friendly and knowledgeable, the gym has a great atmosphere and it's a big space that even at busier times never feels crowded. If you're thinking about starting to climb I would highly recommend Portside Boulders in Osborne Park.
