Perth Town Hall reviews
30It was the first time l had visited this beautiful old building, it is very well looked after. The free entertainment that was provided there was very good.
I went to the HMAS Perth Exhibition in the Undercroft. Saw a great piece of naval history. Highly recommend visiting the exhibition to see one and commemorate of Australia's maritime tragedies.
Perth town hall is one of the most beautiful historic building in Perth, definitely worth a visit if you're curious learner then this is the landmark not to be missed. Loved the history behind this building. Along the stairs is a gallery of the mayor of the city since 1890s, most eye catching part is the house of the ancient bronze bell from the HMAS Perth ship. Not a very big place, but the hall upstairs is open for rental of various functions.
The staff there are excellent and very helpful. Beautiful building. Great spot for weddings and other events.
Built in 1870, Perth Town Hall is Australia’s only Gothic-style town hall, and the only town hall built by convicts.
An award-winning restoration has returned this historic jewel to its original charm. Antique aesthetics and modern amenities combine in this grand, one-of-a-kind venue.
The Hall is open for public inspection from 10am to 4pm from Monday to Saturday, unless hired for a private function.
Designed by Richard Roach Jewell and James Manning in the Victorian Free Gothic style, the hall was built by convicts and free men between 1867 and 1870. Its decorations contain a number of convict motifs, including windows in the shape of the broad arrow, and decorations in the shape of a hangman's rope.
Looking up the jarrah staircase; photographs on the wall are of each Lord Mayor of Perth, starting with George Shenton
The foundation stone for Perth Town Hall was laid on 24 May 1867 by Governor Hampton in a ceremony involving a lot of pomp and parade. However, there were torrential downpours. The ceremony went on anyway with an official procession from Government House and a mock battle performed by the Volunteer Regiments, Enrolled Forces of Pensioners, and the WA Country Regiment.
Loved the history behind this building that used to be the centre of the city back when the days where gold is the source of the life in the city. A landmark not to be missed for any tourist. Along the stairs is a gallery of the mayor of the city since 1890s, and it is the house of the ancient bronze bell from the HMAS Perth ship. Not a very big place, but the hall upstairs is open for rental of various functions. I bet it would be wonderful to have a wedding here at such a historical place.
The Victorian Free Gothic Style architecture of Perth Town Hall is reminiscent of 14th to 16th century public buildings in Germany, Britain, and Brussels where there is a watch tower on one end and a market place beneath the hall. History has it that Perth Town Hall is Australia's only Gothic-style town hall and the only town hall built by convicts. The award-winning restoration of the building that was completed in 2005 has combined the antique aesthetics and the modern amenities to return this historic jewel to its original charm.
Beautiful town in Perth with fantastic Japanese ramen around. One of the nicest place to visit in Perth.
Able to have functions here, but the ventilation is not too great, so with a lot of people in summer it can get quite hot. Nice building though.
An old and pretty big brick building which still looks great amongst the modern architecture around it.its quite a sight too in the late evenings.i tune my watches to follow its clock.
