Very disappointed as I have been a patient at Parkwood Medical for many years, im a holder of a pension card I have been told I have to pay a gap to receive treatment because I am not 75yrs old but my husband doesn't have to pay a gap. If I don't want to pay gap I
need to prove hard ship. Why we are a couple with the same income. The cost is still coming from the same household. Need to review our options.need to prove

Very very rude receptionist, needs training, just wondering what makes them great, if in doubt anyone can come here and ask for an appointment, you will feel it,

I have just had to pay $20 as I requested my medical records to be transferred to my new doctor which confirms my decision to change to a new medical practice. The majority of doctor's at the practice are good but the admin staff and administration processes are well below par.

The doctors here need to defend their patients and stick up for them wherever petty bureaucracy is putting positive health outcomes at risk.

The doctor said her patient required emergency treatment at KEMH, but then happily backed down when some cocky twenty year old decided the patient should go to FSH. A procedure that day could have saved the patient and given her at least another 8-12 months of Life.

Once in the incompetent clutches of feet dragging and junior doctors doing NOTHING, just causing more delays, the patient was left unsupported. The doctor’s attitude was to wash their hands of the patient, tell the family to talk to the hospital.

They really let her down and so she died.

I'm not a patient of the practice, but we witnessed Dr. Ginny Tay attend to a patient who we found having a seizure the side of the road. On her way home from work, Dr. Tay pulled over and showed tremendous professionalism dealing with the emergency. I was particularly impressed with how caring she was towards the patient, not just keeping her airway open, but stroking her hair and speaking compassionately and empathetically to her until the ambulance arrived. A credit to your practice.

I practically grew up with this centre as our local family practice and I loved Dr. Leung, Dr. Copeman and in more recent years found Dr. Burroughs to be very good. She is quiet and polite. Dr. Casperzs was also very kind, sensitive and thorough in treating my Mam and myself. Similarly, Dr. Tay is very caring, comprehensive, patient and proactive. She doesn’t rush through appointments and makes sure each area of the chief complaint or concern is addressed. It would be nice though if you could email a doctor directly and ask for advice or support on hospital decisions with regard your loved one’s care.

The reception staff are also very kind, friendly, courteous and helpful. This is especially true of Melanie, Claire, Sharon and Lindsay. They were always efficient and polite on the phone and in person. The phlebotimists are very nice, and one in particular very skillful at drawing from the hand.

There are however a few disappointing aspects to this practice: some of the doctors tend to do the bare minimum and not much in the way of monitoring or follow-up. I was prescribed a medication that was unsuitable, referred to a specialist who was unavailable. Though the doctor was polite and nice, it made me feel like they were too busy.

My mother’s previous doctor of long-standing seemed to stop caring, just saying, “I don’t know why your blood pressure is so low” rather than investing more time toward investigating. She seemed to become complacent at best, apathetic at worst. I regret not being in the country to encourage my Mam to switch sooner. Still, I wish more had been done to join the dots.

I disagree with non-family members being involved in the care/permitted to sit in on consultations. My mother was a very traditional, private person and would have been reticent to disclose the extent of her symptoms in the presence of a bullying, domineering person who did not have her best interests at heart. The nurses seem nice except for one Northerner, a miserable stirrer, Bet Lynch on steroids.

Sadly, I think the healthcare culture in Australia has certainly undergone some changes and the idea of family-centred care has dissolved somewhat. It might have been nice had the GP asked after a family member recently experiencing a terrible loss. In this respect, the pharmacy were a lot more supportive in offering resources to manage grief.

Admittedly, it was perhaps old-fashioned of me to think that the care provided to an individual patient might also extend to family. Nevertheless, this medical centre does provide a high standard of service for the most part.

A booking is a booking - don’t rush the patient without apologising for being late in the first place.
