Museum of the Goldfields reviews
44Terrific staff provide friendly welcome and assist with how to get the most out of your visit. Very well presented history of mining in the area from initial claim until today. Old buildings on site to bring understanding of pioneer times. Wonderful views across Kalgoorlie-Boulder from the Ivanhoe headframe platform.
This is a must see attraction in Kalgoorlie. Entry by donation. Multiple floors and displays. My favourite was the Unions Banner room and the dentists room. The lovely staff are very knowledgeable and obviously love their work. Loved it
Great free museum on the goldfields area. Lots of old photos, as well as a great collection of gold.
This place is absolutely brilliant. Great displays with heaps of information and photos. You even get to go up one of the viewing/drilling platforms. Free entry but you can donate $5 with a tap and go. Best $5 I have spent in a long time.
This museum is FREE - why would you not go? ! There is a lot on the history of the area, including mining, the narrowest pub, some old buildings, stories of Aboriginal people and their treatment and stories, and various knick knacks. Definitely worth going. Good views of the city from three-quarters up the impressive headframe.
Highly recommend. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. There a lot to look at across different levels from vaults to lookout platform. Will definitely come back to check it out again next time I’m in town
Wonderful Museum! Really interesting, filled with history of Kalgoolie'S gold rush! Really well done, a lot to see & free!
Love this museum. Great local history & excellent touring exhibits. Excellent for all ages. The lookout is great & don't forget the buildings out the back. See if you can find De Bernale's secret escape tunnel in the replica of his office & meeting room (it's there & you can open it - just don't force anything!).
Anyone visiting Kalgoorlie should have a look I was was over whelmed with all the history thank you
Lovely customer service in the gift shop, was given a cute gift wrapping. Clean building and bathrooms, air conditioned and very informative. Thank you:)
Really good museum great staff and exhibits. Very informative facts about history as well as views from indigenous groups and the environmental impacts of gold mining.
Amazing experience! The lovley lady that served me was so kind and so helpful (it was her first day on the job, but you wouldn't have been able to tell with her knowledge on the museum). Definitely a must do if you visit kalgoorlie. I left the museum with so much history on the Goldfields.
Great museum well worth a visit surprised it's free entry a donation only should charge at least $5 to assist with upkeep well done volunteers
This was a really nice place, loaded with interesting information of the local history, and operated by friendly staff.
Definitely worth a short 1-1.5hrs rest stop visit. Nice history of the town and Australia's spying operation
I loved their interactiveness and how informative it is, there are all sorts of machines and wacky equipment. It's great place to take young and old alike, I loved it and only wished I'd put aside more time!
Really interesting - great interactive displays - large lookout over town - well worth a few hours
The most amazing historical record, really enjoyed it. Will come back when next in Kalgoorlie, insufficient time to see all I wanted. Thank you for all your amazing work.
This is an excellent way for tourists to learn about Kalgoorlie and surrounding towns, the staff are informative and friendly and it's a gold coin donation to enter. Great view of Kalgoorlie from the top of the building, well worth a visit! Sometimes they hold special events. (right now, as of this review they are currently running a Spy Exhibition)
Ring ahead to find out when the tours are running.
Curator Ronelle was absolutely fantastic! Made us feel very welcome and showed us the map on how to get around the museum. The exhibits are done really well, and are highly informative. The assortment of interactive displays, especially the miners cottage and De Bernales offices are a treat. You can step back into history and get a real feel of Kalgoorlie in its heyday.
