Murphy's Irish Pub reviews
60 NOT KID FRIENDLY IF YOU HAVE AN ADOPTED CHILD THAT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE YOU.
If -10 was an option that would be my rating.
Drove down from Joondalup to take my partner and her adopted daughter (who is a person of colour) to see the Mandurah Christmas trail lights, got here a tad too early so we decide to quench our thirst and pop in to the closest pub.
Unfortunately our experience here was absolutely appalling;
We walked in and I was served by a mediocre bartender who did not take interest in her service skills and just asked “what are you getting”. After this I was asked if I was the guardian of the child, I said “no, she is” and pointed to my partner. The bartender then asked my partner for ID and served her. We sat outside as we were made to feel like outsiders on our first arrival in 32 degree heat. Alas, my partner and I talked and said maybe we were just being silly about feeling like outsiders so we went inside to sit in A/C.
As soon as I sat down a blonde woman (possibly security) asks my partner for proof of guardian ship over the child before she even sat down. Gob smacked my partner questions the woman about the relevance of this. The “security” woman then says “surely you have court papers or something. It’s my license on the line and she needs to have a guardian to be in here”.
Please note my partner is a 25 year old woman who has more than enough authority over the child, being the soul guardian for her since she was 18, by law.
My partner then sat down and told me all of this. Less than 5 minutes go by and we see a woman enter the pub with 3 children, not once was she asked to prove guardianship over these kids. No doubt none of the other people inside the venue were asked to prove this as well.
My partner then went up to the bar and asked for the manager. This man then tells my partner “yeah well there’s nothing that I can do, don’t you have government payments or something to prove it? ” Assuming she is on government support. We were absolutely disgusted. Never has any pub we have been in discriminated against us like this. It is obvious this woman is a racist, as my partner is a white woman and her adopted daughter is a person of colour.
Who are you to ask to prove guardianship over a child that obviously is under a responsible adults supervision.
Nonetheless, we walked 2 minutes down the road to The Brighton Hotel and asked about their policies and if we had to prove guardianship. They said “of course not, that would be a lot of work. We would only ask for guardianship proof if we see a child roaming around by themselves and a adult claims them. ”
You made us feel less than everyone else. Do better.
-10 stars
Went for Xmas lunch with friends.previous customer. Service was tops, however food was a disappointment.
Lack of Irish food on menu. Plate I had.chicken was dry, mash was tasteless, meal was not eaten.
Good food, good atmosphere. Most importantly good pint of Guinness. Only ever have one complaint, the salad consists of a small dish with a couple of lettuce leaves, slice of tomatoe and cucumber, very 1960's. These days a salad should be a bit more, it wouldn't cost very much to do a reasonable salad with your main. And a small note - if you go more than a few times, even over months, the menu can become boring. They need to change up the menu occasionally. Even with the specials board, they dont veer away from the main menu much.
Lovely venue out together so we'll by my old friend Edward. Great visionary, fantastic chef and enjoying retirement now. Well done Edward. You created a real icon!
Fantastic service by Sara R
very rare to dine these days… absolutely fantastic customer services Sara
Thank you
Staff were really friendly and helpful.
Vegan pie was good.
The place was really noisy, way overcrowded and uncontrolled.
No social distancing at all.
Pretty loud and rough pub with bouncers and bands.
Good if you want to party but definitely not somewhere for dinner with the family.
Realy nice food and amazing staff 2as a great spot for lunch and seemed to have a great atmosphere.
Been coming here since day 1. Never ever disappointed. There's several reasons why this place is award winning. Awesome food. Chur!
Steve the security should not be in this job. He is rude and his type not welcome in the pub industry. Would not find us a seat instead rudely packed up the seats as people left. I don't go to Irish pubs to sit inside a stuffy hot room watching people eat. Little to no bar tables not even standing room outside. With the right management this place would be great and packed.
Our first time at this place, the kids enjoyed their murphys beef burgers and I am with my reef n beef order. Friendly atmosphere and very generously donated to Peel Community Kitchen. Well done and more power Murphy's Pub
I have always loved going there the people are nice and it doesn't take long to get a drink while you are waiting for one
Gotta say I've visited this Pub in Mandurah 3 times in 8 weeks and it is a very friendly, professional outfit consistantly. From Beer to food to establishment and facilities it gets an easy 5 star rating from this Guy.
Good food and good prices for the starters. Cheesy garlic bread could have been better with a bit less cheese and a lot more garlic. The salt and pepper squid that was in the caesar salad would be great as a starter as well.
Love this place. Great food, drinks and atmosphere. Staff are great and the security is always friendly, they make you feel very safe on the weekends
Can't fault the food or service which goes perfectly with the atmosphere, well done, and is worth the visit on the Mandurah foreshore
Good Tasty menu, good tap beer but security walking around a restaurant tables bugging out people eating is a bit weird.
Won't go back
Great atmosphere, Great service, food was your typical pub food with a Anglo Saxon range added, plenty of it & variety.
The quality of food was good but not brilliant!
I had garlic prawns and they were a bit tasteless so I had to add salt! Desperately needed garlic!
Daughter had Reef & beef, steak was tough! The fish & chips were great so I was told & the pizza that my son in law had was tasty & huge.
So only a little little disappointed!
But we still enjoyed it & had a great time!
So I do recommend "Murphy's"!
1 removed for food issues!
Just letting anyone who’s planning to dine here that if you want to take your niece or nephew, cousins or anyone that’s under the age of 18 you’re not allowed to as I was told by 2 security guards and the manager.apparently you have to be their parent or legal guardian even though the Liquor Control Act of 1988 states anyone under the age of 18 needs to be with a responsible adult. I understand that this may be a rule of Murphy’s I just find it rather odd how the security were telling me that it’s LAW and the manager otherwise. Also the way my family members and I were spoken to by the owner/manager was incredibly rude when all I wanted was an explanation that made sense. However I am grateful to Murphy’s for still letting us dine there after I mentioned getting a refund and going elsewhere!
Great service, friendly staff and the crumbed Brie with plumb sauce is AMAZING.
Dress code after 7pm, i was in thongs, but they let me finish my pint and food and didn't rush me off. 10/10
