I am an employer of a trainee and finding it VERY difficult to deal with MEGT. We were first provided subpar advice to put our trainee through a Cert IV in Business. The Apprenticeship office knocked it back and I was told to find another course for our trainee. After weeks of looking at different courses just to meet that requirement I called the Apprenticeship Office. They told me it was knocked back because it was too high a level and the trainee should be doing a Certificate III - this is what we wanted in the first place! Now 4 months later I am still on the phone every day to try and get this sorted.

The RTO have not received our contract and have not actioned anything. The Apprenticeship Office has not received amended contracts. My MEGT rep said she can't do anything more to help me - the contract is sitting with the MEGT CPU team - which no one can give me a name or contact number for. I have called multiple times.

This is a huge compromise to our small business with the Apprenticeship Boost making it possible to hire our trainee. Our trainee is completely disheartened and mistrusting of us because we have not been able to deliver on their training - despite many emails and phone calls to get this sorted.

MEGT told me they have put on 64 new staff, but no one can help me!? I started conversations with MEGT 5 months before we hired our trainee because I was nervous as it is - this is ridiculously poor service.

Honesty not the best place to work. Next to no support even though they always talk about how they care for their workers, no job security, lack of work and even if you’re full time they’ll make you resign

Terrible support for employers - AMA were so much better, should never have swapped the contract over

As a tradesperson who constantly has an MEGT apprentice with me, the level of support they receive is minimal and I find their services and level of professionalism mediocre at best.

MEGT like to insert themselves where they seemingly always end up becoming a hindrance to the apprentice in terms of messing up TAFE schedules where previously the apprentice and TAFE had effectively managed it themselves before MEGT decided to get involved. A question that is raised regarding "barriers encounted" the answer is usually dealing with MEGT themselves, but obviously a 19 year old apprentice isn't going to raise that as an issue for fear of retribution as explained further.

There have been situations where MEGT staff have borderline bullied/threatened apprentices by mentioning they (MEGT) have a say in whether an apprentice gets hired by the host company purely based on who is the field officers "pet"; not on competency within the workplace. Other examples include: demanding signing of forms so they got paid JobKeeper, not giving out feedback when requested and disregarding family situations that needed immediate attention.

There seems to be a constant revolving door of staff and the reoccurring excuse of "I'm new here" with no one actually taking responsibility and ownership of the organisations multiple shortcomings.

It's astounding considering being a former Group Training Apprentice myself over 10 years ago, that there are still no systems in place to streamline onboarding, training (both on and off the job), dispute management and a distinct lack of communication between departments.

Overall; my dealings with MEGT over the last 10 years both in Victoria and Western Australia have been quite negative both as an apprentice myself through to having my own apprentice. If you are an employer looking for an apprentice; while the apprentice themselves will be a good candidate, MEGT as an organisation is a frustrating experience.

The 5 star reviews from former apprentices from a few years ago are not true indicators of what really happens as an employee for MEGT as they were put on the spot to give those reviews.

MEGT have been great throughout my apprenticeship. The team were always happy to help and provided great support in my time working for them. Shout out to Michael for his friendly and professional approach, has been a pleasure working for MEGT. Would recommend them to anyone looking for an apprenticehip.

Do not look after there apprentices. I’m a senior tradie at my company, I mentor and train these kids and it’s absolutly clear the have no interest in looking after their apprentices. Some have just been let go and MEGT will not help them find new employment. STAY AWAY! You get 3 sets of Ppe and 1 pair of work boots a year. Everything outside of that.your on ur own. U can forget work jackets when it’s 4’ outside too.

I enjoyed my time at MEGT completing my traineeship, it has helped me prepare for life after school and traineeship. It was challenging at times but a good type of challenge that helped me grow.
Thanks to Michael for all your help.

I have a mature age apprentice and unfortunetly at sign up with MEGT I was not clearly told the pay rates to get the mature age incentives, so i will now not be recieving any incentives for this apprentice and it really does put his apprenticeship in jeopardy as without incentoves it is very hard to justify the extra cost. Russel Carling was exemplary in trying to work through this issue but unfortunetly the govt did not come to the party even when i stated that i would pay the difference in the amounts to the apprentice if the incentive was recieved. Obviously I hope MEGT has now put steps in to rectify this communication issue so that any other workshops dont potentially miss out on more then $6000 of incentives payments. I would recommend using another Apprentice provider such as AMA OR CCI until they have procedures in place to stop this from happening.
