All the staff were so encouraging, friendly, and excited for the haircut I wanted! It was a very big change for me (pixie cut+dye) and I felt nothing but supported and encouraged the entire time!
Sonia did an amazing job at explaining everything to me, and her opinions on what she thought was best never felt judgemental, or like she was "choosing for me". Sonia has a very obvious passion for her job and clearly loves doing it and it shows! My hair looks amazing and everything was very reasonably priced! She even offered me a free touch-up within the next 2 weeks if i want any slight changes to my hair!

Hitomi, the Japanese lady who did my hair was nothing short of amazing. Her hair cutting skills makes her one of the the best hair dresser I've had in Perth. She pays close attention to details and took her time to do the haircut making sure she gets it right. 5/5 and would highly recommend!

The hairdressers are friendly, professional and knows how to handle Asian hair. My hairstyles always receive compliments. It offers gentle shampoo with nice scalp massage. I have been a loyal customer for nearly 10 years. I also appreciate the long opening time on Friday evenings during late night shopping.

Sonia is just LOVELY and took me in as a last minute appointment - excellent service and expertise and experience! Very very good value too - the quality of treatment you get here is on par with the very expensive King st salons. Very impressed and will definitely be returning!

I have been seeing Sonia at Makasi for over 10 years and she has always provided the most excellent service and care when it comes to my hair. Recently, I have been utilizing her services in beauty (makeup application) and she is amazing! Definitely someone I will continue seeing as not only is she a professional, she is a genuine and lovely person.

On May 8th 2017 I visited Makasi for the last time given I was moving interstate within days. I had been visiting that salon for approximately 3 years whilst growing out my 3c/4a Afro hair. The hairdresser had been nothing but accomodating till then, always treating my hair gently and cutting all the previously chemically straightened hair out.

Given that I was moving somewhere very cold with no hairdressers familiar in Afro or curly hair I went to the salon one last time and requested a Brazilian blowout treatment to get me through the harsh winter months in my new town. I was presented with an alternative option ISO Manetamer and told it was a treatment that would soften my curls, allow for better and more timely management and was highly reviewed. Trusting the hairdresser knowing that she understood my hair growth journey and my stance on chemical straightening I agreed.

My hair is now lifeless, dull and limp. Why? Because having looked online after my appointment, I found that it was indeed a chemical straightener that is used for softer textures that are not usually found within the spectrum of Afro hair. I am absolutely devastated that after 4 years of maintaining my natural hair, 3 of which were via Makasi salon, I have had to spend till now in 2018 (54 weeks later) trying to grow it out. My hair texture is inconsistent, it’s lack lustre and wherever it’s been straightened is completely dull and lifeless, rather than soft and bouncy as promised.

Having called the owner of the salon at the 6 month mark to share my concerns that the treatment hadn’t faded I was just recommended to go and get a professional treatment. There was no admission or even consideration that the ISO manetamer has chemically relaxed my hair.

So I am leaving 3 stars instead of 1 and a complaint to the relevant government departments, not because I wish to mislead other future customers but because the salons service and cutting skills for three years was really second to none. It took one appointment with dishonest and over exaggerated promises to destroy years of care and conditioning.

I feel that my review is fair and if anything generous. I only wish I had not paid $260 upwards just to be left in a state that no money can fix.
