La Cabaña- Bar and Taqueria

Popped by Sunday morning around 9: 30AM with my partner on a whim hoping to get something to eat before hitting the beach… Only have one word to describe it: WOW!
Had a server seat us and explain it all to us while getting some water ready. We were seated outside so we could catch a nice breeze. The atmosphere is amazing, it had awesome beachy vibes and a great selection of music.
We ordered two breakfast sandwiches. We contemplated ordering a drink from their extensive catalogue of cocktails but decided to stick with water. We were informed that the filling of the sandwich changes each week and that this week was pork belly. My fav!
Part of us expected a sad piece of bread with a sliver of meat and far too much salad as per most restaurants in Freo, and we were blown away when our sandwiches arrived.
It was absolutely loaded and it was in that moment we realised how astronomically hungry we were. Thick, juicy fatty cuts of pork belly (crackle included!) laid over a bed of salad (just the right amount) lovingly arranged over a perfectly tangy and creamy guacamole. I tasted a bit of maybe something pickled but honestly I devoured it like a starved horse too quick to tell what was fully in there.
A lot of restaurants have a flaw of having too many heavy ingredients that bog down the sandwich and make you feel like your pores are oozing enough grease to put KFC out of business. That was NOT the case here; every element of the sandwich worked in perfect harmony, a balance achieved through careful curation of grease, tang, sweet and savoury. Despite hounding down the sandwich at such a speed that would bring a grown man to his knees, I was delighted at how *fresh* it was. It was not heavy. It was not light. I was not left feeling overly full. Nor did I feel a lingering hunger. It was just right. It was perfection, nestled between perfectly toasted and buttered bread.
I’d sell my soul to feast on a sandwich this good again. Thankfully I wouldn’t need to, I’d simply need to offer a reasonably priced $18. Worth. Every. Cent. We WILL be back.tl;dr The Mexican sandwich will change how you see sandwiches for the rest of your life. Amazing, 10/10.

First time visit and didn't disappoint. Will definitely be back. Waiter was very attentive and was able to confirm ingredients due to food allergies. For a place that don't take bookings, we didn't have to wait long. Food and mocktails was amazing and intense flavours! Volveré pronto!

Superb Mexican cafe, food is very good and very reasonable. Staff super friendly and a good vibe - waitress was great and only her second shift.we’ll be back for sure

Amazing! The service is exceptional! The food comes out very quickly & the staff are super attentive & polite. The outside seating is so relaxing & the toilets are also very clean.

Besides the fact that I forgot to say I'm vegan on the vegan option meals, love the food. Great staff, lovely food and drinks.

Gorgeous little spot in South Freo! Lively ambiance on a Friday night while still maintaining amazing service. The tequila tasting board was truly unique! Will definitely be coming back for more of the incredible ceviche

Won’t lie I have high expectations for Mexican cuisine as it’s one of my favourites. Was visiting from the East Coast and came here for dinner and was not disappointed, it was some of the tastiest I’ve had! We had the corn tentacles, smashed potatoes (best I’ve ever had) fish and chicken tacos along with dessert. All the food was delicious and the staff were lovely. Kinda wished I lived West Coast now haha.

Great atmosphere, staff, food. Good cocktails and beer. If you like the Hispanic vibe and food it's a must try.
Perhaps not the most authentic Mexican food but yummy all the same.

Had lunch here yesterday. Every dish was bang full of flavour, super fresh and served quickly. While everyone is saying they cannot get staff LaCabana have an awesome crew, friendly and attentative. Add great cocktails and it all vines together for a great experience

Gave this place a go as I know a few friends who raved about it. Waited 1 hour and a half for a table for 2 yesterday which is a Saturday night. We were there at 6pm. We were told there will be availability in 40 minutes. Saw a few people, who probably knows either the manager or the owner and got in without waiting. I feel like that is their customer base, the owner's friends or friends of friends. Who knows what their system is really. Anyway, we didn't mind waiting that long if it was worth it. So we were like, if people wait this long it must be mind blowing. So we ordered Oysters with shots, corn tentacles, fish and chicken tacos, a negroni and a sour. The food came out fast which was great, I ordered a Senora Flores cocktail so when the staff came with a Mariposa I said to the lady that I didnt order a Mariposa, so she took it back. A second wait staff came over and placed the Mariposa on the table, quite abruptly, without confirming if it was what I ordered, I was able to catch her as she was leaving and said it wasn't what I ordered. No apologies whatsoever. We ordered from the menu on the website, because we were waiting so long might as well get our order ready, turns out it is not updated as it is still their winter menu. Overall, the food was average, the service can be improved, the website needs to be updated, in this day and age you would think the front of house would have moved from pen and paper. It is not worth waiting an hour and a half for. We won't be coming back.

Great Vibe, Great food! We love coming here and bring almost all our friends that visit Fremantle. Friendly relaxed atmosphere with good food and great cocktails.

Just to say that yesterday we had a very bad experience! It was our first time there, the service of one of the waitresses was terrible, the food was not what we ordered and the waitress also forgot a part of it.we really left very disappointed, I hope this helps you improve

The worst Mexican food I have ever had. Every single dish had the same sauce and cabbage slaw. We were told they were famous for their spicy margs - again the worst marg I have ever had!
I paid and then told the waitress and she could not have cared less! Not really sure what all the hype is about apart from a nice vibe!

Authentic Mexican food! We love visiting La Cabana. Consistently delicious, tacos, corn tentacles and potatoes are our staples.

Really enjoyed our first visit to La Cabaña. Tried a variery of dishes and loved the tostadas and margaritas. Will definitely be back to try more tostadas.

Dont drink senora flor, tastes like baby perfume, ceviche and al pastor taco (chicken) too small, totopos nos very good, corn tentacles roasted brocoli and hand crush potato amazing.
