Kingstown Barracks reviews
22A unique, cozy hostel. It is a bit of a hike to get to the general store and local amenities. Otherwise the location is great for exploring. There are no staff at the site itself but you are given the necessary contact details up-front for when you need support.
Great, quiet out of the way location. An easy bike ride or 30min walk along beach to main port/town area.
Unpretentious, spacious dorm style rooms with shared bathroom, lounge and kitchen facilities down one end of building. Our only issue was very thin wall/partition between our room and noisy next door neighbours.
Great old place, everything locked up so couldn't get inside any buildings but good place for some of the islands history
The Barracks were 2km from town and unfortunately the bus stopped running at 6.30pm so a long hike in the dark after our evening meal.
You get what you pay for. It’s cheap and very basic however the room and facilities were spotless. There is one shared bathroom with two more ablution blocks a short walk away. There is a bus stop outside and lots of bike racks to park up at. I can’t fault the accommodation however it is located a fair bit away from the bars and checking in took an eternity, that’s why I have given it four stars.
We booked a room for 4. Beds were not made but linen was available. Room was separated from the room right next to it with a wooden wall that had windows with blinds and a door. If anyone talked in the room next to us, we heard everything as if they were in our room.
The room was not very clean, lacked plugs and did not have heating nor mobile network.
There was 1 bathroom for 5-6 rooms.
Only good point is the kitchen which was well stocked with crockery.
Basic but good place to stay. Clean and a good location, walking distance of a lovely beach and a shuttle bus to the settlement.
Converted army 1932 Barracks converted into dormitory accommodation. Shared bathroom and toilets. One kitchen and lounge area.
Although we couldn’t go inside it is still an interesting place to visit and an easy ride from town. There are other things to see in the area if you go searching- like old bunkers that you can explore.
We hired a family room in the Kingston Barracks. The accommodation is as advertised; simple budget accom that is slightly out of town. We loved our stay, full kitchen was available that was stocked with appliances and very clean. Toilet blocks, laundry and BBQs nearby. Room was simple bedding, with clean linen and a bar fridge. We didn't need anything more and it was very affordable. Very close to a quiet secluded section of beach too
Beautiful barracks and accommodation, lots of space and bunks get the price per person down to a really good amount.
Definitely a great place to stay on Rotto with a group.
A pretty good place to stay, especially if you straight on a budget. It is relatively quiet, and clean.
Great accommodation however bit pricey for no kitchen and shared facilities. The breakfast is very pricey for what it is, not very flash. No alcohol allowed so better off staying in town.
Cheapest bed on the island, but that's about it. Far away from centre, so hard to do stuff without a bike. Beds alright, no atmosphere really, generally pretty clean. But it's a bed that lets you stay overnight on Rottnest, and that is definitely worth it.
Lovely bit of Australian history in an idyllic location. We hired a bike and toured around, highly recommended to all
Eh. You pay for what you get. The rooms are tidy, but the facilities are a bit outdated and cafe food is only ok.
You get what you pay for. You pay very little, you get very little. Very functional shared ablution facilities. Would suggest they need to clean room more vigorously every once in a while to prevent build up of dust etc. Had everything we needed to be comfortable for one night.
We stayed in a dorm room fitted for 10 people. The accomodation was clean and well maintained. The Kingstown Barracks is a 10 minute bike ride from the ferry and is a luggage drop off point. It is a quiet area and the Quokkas populate the area at night. The kitchen has most ammenities but there is only 1 shower, which is in the same room as the toilet.
Best chalets n barracks and a special place for us Nyungar people. A must for every visitor to stay at.
Old military barracks now used as dorms for schools and large families. Otherwise not much else. Laundry room is over the road for $6 a load. Bit history and tour available up to the guns which the structure is still there in ruin but no guns. Bit of interest if that's your thing otherwise better to go to Oliver hill near by which still has an actual gun.
