Hollywood Private Hospital reviews
80Would like to thank the staff at Hollywood private hospital, especially the day and night staff at floor 1 Charles pope. Excellent nurse's well looked after.
I had surgery here for a sporting injury and required an overnight stay. The nurses were amazing here! Shout out to Delta and Marie for looking after me during my stay. I can't recall the other nurses names, but everyone was so helpful and loving during this hard time for me.
Always busy, but parking is easy&the specialist centre is very nice&tidy. Plenty of toilets, this centre has everything a sick person needs
Had a great experience with the day surgery unit. All the nurses were exceptionally nice & caring. Felt cared for from start of admission to discharge.
Extra shoutout to nurses working afternoon shift on 04/10.
Nursing care poor & total lack of supervision during showering verging on negligent. Repeated mix-up with medications. Nursing staff not following surgeons instructions. Very basic & restricted physiotherapy offered. Wonder how someone who was unable to self advocate would get on. Service cuts severely impacting quality of care. Frankly, they seem more interested in offering a restaurant style meal service.which doesn't cater for diabetics, than a professional medical experience.
After 5 nights in Hollywood this is the sequence of events
. Requested phone charger x 3 was told they had one but didn’t receive one
. New medication given without explanation resulted in op being delayed 2 days
. Meals were acceptable delivery times irregular
. While some nurses were competent there were several that lacked what seemed like basic skills in infection control.
. I have worked in the health industry for over 30 years eg managing nursing homes
. Through no fault of my surgeon I found myself fasting for 3 days due to the actions at ward level
. Day before discharge I was told the ward was being vacated by 1pm next day and was told my surgeon was coming to see me prior to my discharge
. Unfortunately the city to surf fun run was on and surgeon to my knowledge didn’t get to the hospital
. On day of discharge, I didn’t receive my scripts, discharge info or post op instructions and the nurse advised me to go and she would see that scripts were sent to me electronically, at this time the ward was empty and I felt pushed to leave.
. I contacted my surgeon Sunday because I didn’t have antibiotics, he said a nurse said I had said to her I didn’t need the antibiotics and was leaving the hospital.
. I requested a wheelchair and was told it would take a considerable amount of time
. When I left the ward there was nobody in sight, had been closed down
. On Monday morning I rang the hospital requesting discharge notes and post op instructions. I received a call back from a male person asking me questions his final comment was he believed what I said and would email info as requested
. To my dismay my daughter received a call from a female informing her I had just left the hospital on my own accord. She also informed my daughter they will not email the info requested due to privacy.
. I list my grievances but for anyone interested there is more I haven’t referred to

My Mother was on a public ward at this hospital. The Ward was staffed by the nurses from QE2 who had come over with the patients and their care was good. The State Government was paying Ramsay to take these vulnerable patients out of the Public system and keep them safe from Covid 19. It was obvious Hollywood considered these patients not desirable (despite being paid for their beds), meals were delivered at odd times, often very late and with little to no thought on presentation (one meal had a whole half an avocado dumped on top of a salad, Mum refused to eat it, the look of it turned her stomach). My Mother was a palliative care patient and when she died, the switchboard staff member I spoke with was very rude when I asked for help to talk with someone about releasing Mum's body to the undertaker. No condolences were offered and her tone of voice was harsh, rude and dismissive ("I don't even know who I could put you through to, to help you" in an angry voice). It was very obvious the only interest in this hospital was profit-motivated.
Hope you're not hungry! It's 50/50 if your meal will even arrive! When it arrives, you better check it for the allergies you advised them of too! They lose your order and there's no set meal times! Absolutely shocking for a hospital! I desperately feel for the staff who have to serve the meals to us patients so late and incorrectly, it's not their fault. What on earth is happening in the kitchen!
Amazing.
Can't fault this hospital.
All staff were wonderful.
My Dr. Bruce was so reassuring. He took all my anxiety away. He was thorough. Thank you to Hollywood hospital.
I wasn’t a patient, but I was a student on placement at the mental health ward. Out of all the placement I went to, the nurses were the nicest here. From the minute I stepped foot into the hospital all staff were so helpful. From the ordalies, kitchen staff to the nurses and doctors. My first day I was lost I didn’t have to even ask for help one of the ordalies saw that I looked confused and came and gave me a helping hand. The Clinical facilitators were so nice and understanding and made me feel confident. All the nurses were nice, kind and helpful. The kitchen staff always offered to make me alternative food if I didn’t like any food that was made for the day. I just feel really bad that I forgot to give them a box of chocolates on my last day of prac and hope they see this review. Thankyou so much for helping me have a good placement.
Train your staff on the phone. Common courtesy don't just transfer people without telling them to where.
Also, your at work! Don't just answer the phone with "Hello".
Announce yourself.
I have been reading some other reviews with some alarm this morning.
First - my bouquets. Some of the nursing staff are truly amazing and really try and give time to their patients. Most of the doctors I have seen have been very helpful, but the Indian lady, whose name I can't pronounce was matter-of-fact, to the point and really "got" me. " Special thanks to Olivia the physio.
Now, my concerns - I understand that the workload for nurses is high, however, I am an anxious 61 year old woman day 3 after a knee replacement. I need reassurance and that is why I have brought my husband in as my support person/boarder. Only one nurse has asked about Michael's well being. Being a support person is not a cushy job.
The acute pain team has also been most compassionate and competent. I was very scared with the concept of getting my regional pain block removed this morning and having appropriate pain management.
I also had nausea and vomiting plus diarrhoea and have been very drowsy up until this morning, which was unexpected and confusing.
Now recognition of my issues is improving today. Thank you to Maryanne and Brad of the pain team.
Food - "trial room service" has been patchy. Looks great on the menu, but mostly cold and overcooked. Choose carefully.
No lactose free milk for first three days, when I was told it would be supplied. Explained some of the diarrhoea.
Also stopped drug that was contributing to my discomfort.
Maintenance - manhole in the bathroom was left open. Safety and duty of care issue.
I hope I have explained why I have given only 3 out of 5 stars.
Yours sincerely,
Kate Sofoulis
From admission to discharge I had a great experience. Admission ladies quick and efficient, admission nurse really helpful. Orderly that brought me to holding bay really lovely. Nurses at holding bay efficiency and nice. Recovery nurse very sweet and patient. Ward ladies at gurnsey ward wonderful. Room service was a new experience. It worked great, food was good and came out quickly. Great experience
Best Emergency room in the state.
The nurses are wonderful and very helpful aswell. Drs very knowledgeable.
Please do not come to Hollywood Ed I came by ambulance Saturday night at 10: 30pm it’s now Sunday at 5.00 pm and while they did a lot of tests they still couldn’t find out what was wrong with me …. So instead of admitting me to find out what is wrong they are sending me home feeling like I’ve been hit by a bus and in so much pain I can’t express enough how terrible I feel instead of them trying to find out what is wrong they sent me home with a vomit bag and in tears please read all the reviews I never do but I definitely will from now on you pay for the ambulance then you still have to pay $280 it’s absolutely disgusting the Ed Dr tried called Dr Cardaci to admit me for further investigations and he wouldn’t admit me I was practically begging them to please not let me go home I feel so unwell I can’t even walk the pain is so unbearable and I am so clammy this is how sick I feel and if you have complex conditions well they then say that is the problem it is all too hard for them on the Saturday night the nurse was so rude and in such a bad mood she made me feel so uncomfortable However the nursing staff on Sunday where great they showed me so much compassion and tried so hard for me to be admitted I feel so unwell I can’t even walk to the car so to get help I now have to go to another hospital as I can’t go home the way I am feeling I really can’t believe it especially when you pay so much money for private health it doesn’t cost them anything I have top cover with HBF it’s an absolute disgrace that this has happened: (
I went into Ed and was seen right away. Staff were lovely, I was looked after very well. I didn’t get my echogram test done as there was an emergency. But was told not to worry they would ring me when I went home with an appointment for test and appointment with specialist. Well 15 days later nothing. It seems once you’ve left the hospital that’s it. I wonder if my gp has recieved my notes. I don’t hold out much hope. I’ll find out when I see her
. PS STILL WAITING TO BE CONTACTED, I sent my details. I just hope I don’t have a problem with my heart that should have been properly investigated.very disappointed. Why should I have insurance. Pay the extra and have absolutely NO follow up with essential test and specialist appointments. Not happy Jan
Love the new wing! Unfortunately it is so understaffed and I feel for the Doctors, nurses, orderlies, receptionists and assistance workers.otherwise it usually is a great hospital
Nurses wanting to apply for employment BEWARE! Not a good hospital at all! Do not apply for employment if you want a career change and want to get trained in another area of nursing. You will not have access to staff development nurses, you will not be supported, you will have rediculous patient loads. Particularly Omeara ward! What a waste of time and energy!
I’ve sent you my details when you asked twice with absolutely no response. I’ve now gone to my gp and she is sending me for the heart test that you were supposed to arrange
Hollywood hospital emergency department is a joke!
7 Hour wait, observations only taken 4 times, ECG machine disconnected without anyone noticing it, nurse couldn't take my blood pressure, didn't know how to use machine, blood test not repeated and still waiting for my test reports.
Disgraceful Patient care!
