Birthday meal with family, this joint chosen by one of the kids. Sashimi looked the part but just missed the mark on quality.
We couldn't fault the sushi, all were good and plenty of variety.
They lost a star for no beers to go with birthday meal, but a short walk over to the pub afterwards for a cleansing ale scratched that itch.

Takeaway-only. But otherwise, pretty good portions such that my boyfriend almost couldn't finish his bento box. Ramen wasn't soggy even though it was packed soaking in the soup; was actually a perfect texture when I ate it 15 mins after pickup. Ramen and chicken karaage taste was on point for japanese food, not sure about the bento box - boyfriend inhaled it so I assume it must have been good too!

Hiro Japanese impresses with its excellent food offerings, with the Udon noodle soup standing out as a must-try. The wait times are remarkably short, making it an ideal choice for a quick yet delectable meal. The combination of tasty food and efficient service make for a truly satisfying dining experience. I highly recommend Hiro Japanese!

Got the pork katsu curry and miso soup and it was excellent, will definitely be returning to Hiro!

We come to Hiro very often and get kaarge chicken, gyōza and ramen.

The flavoured ramen eggs used to be the reason I came but they were over cooked and not really that flavoured.

I must say, tonight the pork was so delicious and tender. I don't know what's changed (maybe the chef I suppose) but the pork was amazing!

The food tasted amazing. Was the best I have had in years UNTIL. I found a blow fly in my udon noodles. After eating a third of my way through and enjoying it. Everyone stopped eating at that point.

Was really disappointed but feel like it could be a random one off thing.

However when I rang to let them know (politely and not angry or rude), their response was “and um, what? ”

So while it may have just been a freak thing, I think they didn’t make any attempt to apologise or even acknowledge my report.

During the pandemic the restaurant was converted to takeaway only. The food continues to be absolutely excellent.

If you haven't been back for a while, the kitchen has grown and the counter moved into what used to be the dining space.

There is a bench to wait for your order. Service is quick.

Worst bento I have ever had salmon was chewable literally like a tyre. And potato koroke was what seemed to be steamed not fried.

Fast and Tasty Japanese food!

They have a really refreshing Bento Box which includes a seaweed salad and ginger which contrasts really nicely with the meat and rice of the meal.

They only do take away but it's super fast

Sashimi was not fresh, mainly the white fish. Had a yellow tinge, slimy and off. Return Sashimi and was refused a refund. Owners argued with me about the quality, I have eaten enough sashimi in Australia and Japan and know what off fish looks like. I would have just been satisfied with a refund

This is the best Japanese food I've eaten in a long time and for a good price too. I don't have a photo of the food because I inhaled it all within a second, Highly recommend this place and well done to the Hiro staff.

This small local restaurant used to do dine in but not any more now, a bit disappointed when get there especially they don't do Ramen for lunch, shame

Beef teriyaki jye was such a disappointment this evening. No flavour to the overcooked fatty beef and and rice.
Miso soup was great.

Really enjoy going to Hiro when I just can't be bothered cooking. The miso soup is delicious, the katsu curries are always cooked well and satisfying and even the side dishes like the gyoza or potato croquettes are consistent and a treat. Even the sushi has been fantastic when I've had it.

Definitely recommend.

A disappointment. Portion of beef was rather small with so much rice. The sauce was so little, it hardly tasted like teriyaki.

Last night was my husband's 40th birthday. We have 3 young kids so couldn't go out for dinner so decided to treat ourselves to take out. We ordered over $80 worth of food and one of the dishes was the $35 sashimi dish. It was supposed to have 20 pieces of sashimi. We unfortunately only received 9 bits and lots of rice. The other dishes were nice and I had no issue with the quality but it was disappointing to not receive the dish we ordered, especially since it was quite expensive too.

Got takeaway order and can honestly say that as a Chef of 33 years, was not disappointed with the food. Great communication with staff, food was great and would have to be the best Japanese food in this area without a doubt.

Food is good although a bit higher in price when compared to other places.

You also should never order their food through Uber Eats as the prices are marked up an average 40-50% which is the highest I've seen for any restaurant on Uber Eats. This is for everything, including their drinks and condiments (I compared the prices on their website to what they had on Uber Eats). This also doesn't include the delivery or service fee, and so it is quite a big rip-off ordering delivery for their food.

Otherwise, it's one of the better Japanese places in the area just wish their prices were a bit cheaper. (I rate it 3.5 stars just rounded up as there is no half ratings)

I get takeaway from here quite often and it’s always a very quick and easy experience. Highly recommend the veggie curry & ramen!
