Hi, I have bought most of my woodworking tools from Hare & Forbes in Perth, and they have always been so helpful. It must be well over $10,000 worth.
I only deal with one person because feel you set up a certain relationship, Kevin is a very good salesman and has always done the right thing by be, and I hope our relationship goes on for many years to come.
Hare & Forbes does not have everything I need, so I have to deal with other shops in Perth, but you can’t have it all your own way.

John Boyle.

Be aware. WORST customer support I have seen in a long long time.
I paid a lot of good money for a product and delivery. The product failed right out of the box and tripped my safety switch. Upon reporting this I received no response then after chasing it up I was dealing with a person with NO apology, NO empathy and NO attempt to make it anything other than my problem.

EDIT: To their credit, I received a call from the branch manager and this has been put right. I have been shipped a working replacement unit that was tested before leaving the premises. It is a really great shame that it required a rant on "Facebook Review" for that to happen.

I bought a motorcycle lifter, which is perfect for my small collection of super bikes. The hardest part was getting it off the ute - it weighs around 180kg! There were a few nuts and bolts missing (to secure the front wheel clamp). I called Phil who readily got me the bolts I needed that same day, no problems at all. The only issue I'm having with the lifter is a loud groaning noise along with vibration coming from the hydraulic jack. I checked the oil level, which was a little low, but after topping it off the noise continues. The jack feels like it's struggling to lift my bikes, which weigh around 220kg wet. It does eventually lift ok though. Looks like I'll be putting in a warranty claim on the jack very soon.

Posting 5 stars just for Glen's efforts in the warehousing section. Couldn't be more helpful in checking out if a table saw I may want to buy would fit in the back of the ute!

Superb place. The showroom is spacious and clean. They have an amazing catalogue of machinery and also carry space parts.
All the staff are friendly, helpful and well informed, from the sales desk to the delivery depot.

A huge inventory of machinery and accessories for both tradespeople and home hobbyists.
I received excellent service while I was there.

Here's a thing, you buy a lathe for almost $5k and the cutting tool is about 8mm off centre. The tool holder doesn't move up or down. The technical support says you have to pack it, use coke tin cut into strips. But I need 8mm mate, how many cooked tins? A case? Why is the tool only 16mm? Well, that's the recommendation from the manufacturer. Really? They recommend a thin tool and a case of coke cans?
Oh, and if you follow the rigging instructions, the machines flips 90 degrees. Geez! That was a dangerous move I can tell you.
Pretty shoddy is my assessment.

I need to address the reply: before I wrote this review I had already contacted the store and was told that the tooling is as recommended by the manufacturer. That's it. End of discussion. I mean, what more can I do when the store makes it clear that I have no case. So I went to the store and a guy heard my story and said the packing seems to much (I measured it with my vernier and it was 6.3mm, not 8mm). I took him to the machine and we checked it.lo and behold, it was exactly as I had said. So I looked at buying a quick connect unit for $700! Yes, I was going to spend my way out of this mess. Guess what? It doesn't fit. The hole is 24mm and my pin is 26mm.
So, to the owner, please take note, that whereas I spend a lot of money at your store, it seems your procurement is haphazard and the boys and bobs you buy don't suit your machines. If I did that in my business I would be out of business.

Bought an air compressor which had nuts missing to bolt the wheels on. Called them to say I had bolts for the wheels but no nuts. They arranged the supplier to send missing nuts…they sent more bolts and still no nuts to fit the wheels on, called again and they said they definitely told supplier to send nuts. They arranged with the supplier again…this time I received feet for the front to sit on! The compressor came with instructions for different compressor so I don’t know what the hell is supposed to be included! Buying some nuts myself to finish the assembly and will never deal with these muppets again!

If you think Bunnings is good, H & F beats it hands down, for real toys. Seriously, it is a great business.

Update: After posting this review i had a phone call the same day and a new set of blocks sent out which have no damage on them. Specs even further out that previous set but that doesn't bother me.

Other than numerous poor service in the last few months, not to mention issues with my lathe (and everyone else who got an AL-336, that hare and Forbes chooses to ignore) i ordered a set of 75x50x50 V-Blocks, when they arrived and I took them out of the packaging it clearly shows that one has been dropped, prior to being packaged. They also do not measure anywhere near 75x50x50 as it states on the actual block!

You have my number, i have an account with you and i have already emailed and tried to call several times to resolve this, so dont reply on here that i have not already given you the chance to fix this issue.

I have driven in there twice now to pick up something that I was told was ready twice. 4 hours of driving for nothing. If people aren’t capable of of doing there job correctly maybe think about who you are hiring.

Emailed for a quote 3 days ago, didn't receive a reply.
Rang today was on hold for over 5 mins with no answer.
Must be doing pretty good and not need the business. Very Poor Service!

Have been wanting to purchase a Lathe, and sundries. These people just don't get back to you. I was assured that Kevin Scott in Perth would get back to me promptly, but nothing.

I have been doing business with H&F for a few years now and service quality has always been v.good.
So, very surprised today when I went to Perth store due to broken wood lathe face plate that had sheared the centre point in my latest woodturning project. I was basically told by sales rep that the failure wasn't covered by warranty.the reason being that you should expect that the metal thread on the face plate could shear off in wood!
This was an H&F own brand product, so it doesn't say much for their level of quality and even worse that the sales rep managed to keep a straight face when he tried to justify the reason for not replacing the broken item. Very disappointing all round by H&F!

I bought a set of wood turning gouges and skews about 2 weeks ago. I got home on the day and pulled the wrapping etc off the box and pulled the first gouge out. It was totally askew and bent. It would have been dangerous to put it on a lathe. I called, drove the 40 mins back and paid a bit more for the higher quality set. Two weeks later and the entire gouge has pulled out of the handle. Very disappointing and pretty dangerous.

I like the shop. Bought a few hand tools there and was happy with the prices. Definitely going back, it’s always worth a look.

The service was nice enough and the range was extensive. However. I recently purchased a bandsaw and an extractor to go with it. On the day of pick up I enquired about a ripping blade to go with the said bandsaw, the blade was $30. I had just spent $2500 on the saw and extractor (at full price around Christmas too!) and asked politely if they could throw in the $30 blade for free. “Nup can’t do it, just can’t do it” the gentleman said. I was a little taken aback to be honest. It’s not price I cared about it’s the principle. $30 is chicken scratch for a company like that, and to feel like the customer is appreciated is important in my view. Because of that very small detail, I don’t think I would go back there and won’t be recommending them. I regret not getting my saw from Carbatec.
