Gilkison Dance Studio reviews
21A safe social environment to learn ballroom at your own pace. All teachers are friendly and the classes are structured in a way so you can learn at your own pace. I'm 5 years in and this is still one of my favourite places in Perth.
Having not been here for about 30 years, I was looking forward to getting my boogie back on on a Friday night
Dancers were new and great since last time and the vibe was great, however it seems they have not upgraded the stereo system from the 80s.
The music was hard to hear and pick up the beat and the announcements from the DJ came across like I had 90 year old hearing. And I'm not 90!
Every one was friendly and the night was still good but would have had a much better time with a crisp clear sound.
I have been going to Gilkisoms for 6 months now and can attest to it being the best dance studio in Australia, with great vibe, great wine and great teachers!
I work here, so it would be wrong for me to give the place a plug, however, if you're stuck for something to do on a Friday night and love dancing, listening to great music, and meeting and making new friends, it's hard to go past Gilkisons.
We took lessons with Chris for our wedding first dance and loved the experience. Chris is an excellent teacher and has a great sense of humour. We couldn't be happier with the outcome!
Ryan helped us organise our special event at Gilkisons and it was just brilliant from start to finish. It worked out exactly as we had planned and was so much fun. To learn to dance in a great environment with a equally patient & entertaining instructor, have fun and be at a great venue just ticks all the boxes. Will certainly be returning time and time again. Recommend to all. Thanks again!:)
Great place to dance
Has a social dance for free from 8.30pm Wednesday nights and Thursday nights
My husband and I have wanted to take dancing lessons for years, and Gilkinsons doesn't disappoint! We're absolutely loving our Friday nights, its so much fun and fills us with confidence. If its something you've always wanted to do, this studio is a must!
The doorway entrance is on Murry street not Erwin as maps would have you believe. It would be nice if the owner could update maps but apart from that I had a wanderfull night. Beautiful big studio to dance great DJ and music. Very friendly staff. Very nice people. 100% would recommend to everybody from experts and novices like me!
Highly recommended. The learning pace is good and instructors are patient. Excellent place to go for those who are shy and new to dancing.
A great selling point is that partners are not required and social dancing is available after lessons to solidify what was taught in class.
Loved the dance studio. Teachers are very well educated on ballroom dancing and know what they're talking about
With 4 months before our wedding, we started dance lessons with Ryan.
Ryan was so much fun, we would come into the lessons grumpy and leave laughing and upbeat.
He was great at breaking down the steps and if we weren’t getting a move, he’d break it down in a different approach. He would always ask us if we had any questions and really took the time to get our moves looking good. I’m sure it was particularly frustrating when we hadn’t practiced but Ryan still managed to get 2 beginners learning a fast and fun routine!
We hadn’t told any of our guests that we were doing lessons and it was the best surprise! We had so much fun showing off our routine and it was definitely the talk of the wedding. Highly recommend Ryan and Gilkinsons. We’ll definitely be back to learn new moves!
Gilkisons Dance Studio came recommended to us from one of our family friend was the best decision we made! Studio is organized and truly devoted to their dance studio and its success, which leads to success for all who participate. My daughter has learned so much during her time at expressions. I highly recommend this program, whether you are a beginner or more advanced Thank you for knowledge that you to teach it all.
We had lessons with Ryan at Gilkisons Dance Studio to learn the jive for our wedding, and he did such an awesome job teaching us and choreographing the perfect routine for our special day. It took a lot of convincing to get my husband to agree firstly to do the lessons and secondly to do a jive (of all dances!), but Ryan made it so much fun for us. There were lots of laughs along the way! He brought out the best in both our dance abilities. Learning to dance together was the most amazing experience for us and was an experience we’ll cherish forever. We’ll definitely be back for more lessons post-wedding. Thank you Ryan and Gilkisons Dance Studio!
Atmosphere on Friday nights social dance is really joyful and friendly. The classes are a lot of fun too. We learn great technique from the start with experienced teachers so we can dance anywhere.
I had reservations coming down there first as an uncoordinated guy. But once I swallowed up the courage I came down with my fiancé and have had a really good time. Ryan Haworth was fantastic and really helped
Great place to learn ballroom dancing as a total beginner. Friday socials are always fun and have a great atmosphere.
Best place to learn how to dance in Perth. It has amazing theme nights and it's a great place to meet new friends.
A really great place to get you into dancing. Where newcomers may be a bit cautious/put off by the usual scene (dance studios full of experts and oldies whizzing around to classical music under flouro lights - although you do get used to that after a while) Gilkison's bridges the gap for a newcomer with vibrant teaching, more recent tunes and a club atmosphere. The transition to dancing socially is made easy and natural with Fridays 8.30 pm being the peak night. If you're a female, you've got a tonne of males who can dance well; if you're a fella like me you'll have to be prepared to persist with some quiet nights (or the occasional unimpressed lady) until you improve but definitely worth it. I think a lot of people started dancing because of Gilks, I did. Cheers.
Great place for social dancing; everyone is very friendly and the instructors are great teachers and make classes a lot fun.
