Gascoyne River South Branch reviews
18Nice rest area, but be prepared for a LOT of bugs, make sure you have sprayed repellent all over before you exit the car, dusk is the worst time for this as there is a creek near by. Woke up with mosquito bites all over.
Pilots love it here it is peaceful great place to have a chin wag and meet near people. And yes you need your own toilet paper and wet wipes for the sits for the toilets but that what the outback is all about. Hasn't been polluted with rubbish. Not like some parking bays. And this is DEFINITELY A SEVEN STAR RATING Absolutely Beautiful place
Good stopping area shame people keep on trying to put rubbish in a bin that is already overflowing, and leave toilet paper spread around.
Bit tight for the bus. Some nice spots but pick your spot as not a lot of turning room for bus and trailer.
Good place to stay over night, room for trucks, a waste dump point, disabled access long drop toilets (which seem to be not-so-long drop atm), bins are very full, several shaded picnic tables, and plenty of places to camp or caravan for free - there are about 7 caravaners here now with plenty of room for more.
First time here. A lot closer to the road but still good. We normally stay at the middle branch which we love.
Found this gem just in time.when you gotta go this place was a blessing nice and clean no smell
Fantastic camping spot.
WA certainly looks after it's travellers, even us Victorians!
Excellent free camp, loads of sites spread out.love staying here, nice fire and rd noice not bothersome. Well done to the Shire, thankyou
Large official rest area off the Great Northern Highway with gravel parking near facilities and along the river off a dirt track. Some facilities.
Time and Cost: 24 hours, Free.
Access: Sealed road, gravel and dirt tracks within rest area.
Facilities: Large sealed/gravel/dirt parking areas with some shade. Facilities include drop toilets, bins, dump point, covered seating and fire pits. Excellent Telstra but no Optus or TV reception
Ambiance: Close to highway so some road noise from passing traffic.
Suited as an overnight stay for self-contained vehicles as a stopover between Meekatharra and Kumarina.
Campground fairly tidy, nice sheltered picnic benches. Clean toilets, has a sink but no water.
It's out in the open, so no wind cover unless you get close to trees at the far end.
Very close to road, plenty road trains rumbling all day and night. When we stayed here, there were trucks with their engine on all night long, annoying ambience.
Great overnight spot, however best if not at the beginning or end of the school holidays.
Would also recommend having your own toilet paper, often there is none.
Around the back there are plenty of camp sites, some fire rings and picnic table. To get a good site, get in early, well before sunset.
Good spot for an over nighter. Especially if the has been rain. Just don't turn your back on the cows, and the flies are friendly.
Way better than caravan parks except for power and bathing.
No ripoff charges
Nice shelters and seating and quite nice with trees
Good 24hr stop. Plenty room to park up
Long straight road so the long trucks with all those wheels on the rd are loud during the night.
This is one of the better places for an overnight stop. The toilet's are clean, it has a dump point and you can park quite a distance from the highway.
Anything’s better then a squat when ya got to go. FYI always a good idea to take some paper in with you, and don’t look down lol
We stopped in to check out the rest area. Huge area right to the back, along way from the road. Road noise minimum, under covered table and chairs. Toilet block, dump point, rubbish bins. Mobile reception, a mining sleuth that was used in days gone by is on display. I would stay if not so early in my travel day.
