El Questro Station reviews
62 I have to give it 5 stars because El Questro does what it does very well - efficiently handles a huge number and range of visitors through its station. The camping facilities are excellent, with a set of new, well-maintained, nice and private shower toilet cubicles. There is plenty of room to absorb the volume of campers, although it is definitely worth paying a couple of extra dollars for a "riverside" site, which is not exactly on the banks of the river but set well back into the trees.
If it is your first stop it will be fine, coming the other way after the other campgrounds it does lack their charm and character and feels like what it is - a major tourist operator. There are certainly benefits to that - nice food and a bar! The only fly in the ointment was a curt interaction with the desk of the Emma Gorge Resort in response to a query about staying. We got a real end of season vibe from them that we were hardly worth the bother.
Of course the reason for staying there is the amazing sites that you have access to. We happily spent 2 nights there, and could easily have spent 1 or 2 more as many do.
An amazing place BUT.very expensive, camp site near the river not in view. The access into the so called swimming hole very poor (could be a duty of care issue) depth only approx 60cm. No support rails or steps (could be easily fixed) I know it's towards the end of season but Dinner was very sad served out of a cardboard box with disposable cutlery. Almost paper thin dry fish, shoe string chips and a salad full of cucumber and red onion. My expectations of the place was a little shattered. But I'll be back cause there is a lot going for the place.
Well I know why it's on the map, amazing scenery beautiful camping ground, considering the amount of people that come through here so well maintained.
Excellent amenities service and ability to explore a true lifetime experience.
We went there as part of a tour and are at the Steakhouse. The fish was okay but the cut of meat was very average, full of gristle, everyone who had the steak left 50% of it on their plate. Good facilities, fuel, cafe and bar.
Stayed in the glamp style tents they were great befs so comfy. Girl with long blonde hair when i checked in was lovely soo helpful. Then we get to the Swingarm Bar order our drinks. Older woman short brown hair wearing glasses was sooo rude. Honestly her people skills were horendous, she couldn’t even put a straw in my drink. I had cash she said “we dont take cash card only” which is fine, then she ssid i can take cash but cant give you change. I ordered 2 x fish tacos one for myself one for my husband. When i collected them there was 2 in one box. I said to the young boy with blonde hair “ I ordere 2”. He rudely said there is 2 in there. I thought we would have had our own takeaway box to eat out of at least. I later ordered another 2 picked them up and they were in separate boxes ️️️ Some staff there need a kick up the behind very RUDE. Also no country music. A girl singing that really didn’t fit in she should have been at a boardwalk pub. It’s a station and nothing really rings true to form. How about some stockwhip cracking, making damper etc. I felt like I was in Melbourne.
Called to El Questro for a very nice breakfast and look around (for future referance) after an early morning dip at Zebedee Springs. Facilities look great. 4wd vehicles. Tour buses. A group of horse riders setting off. Couple getting the run down before their helicopter flight. Met a group of International travelers by the sign on the way out. Bonnet up. Vehicle jacked up. Asked if everything ok. Lovely young people travelling in an array of vehicles 3 tyres changed on the Gibb River Road. Took it all in their stride and having a wow of a time and everything they needed and owned for their year around our fantastic home was in the back of that 4wd. Makes you think.
Seriously disappointed, probably won't go back. Stayed here after travelling the gibb from the west. The entrance road is a couple of kms long and A LOT more corrugated than the gibb.should be able to get a certificate that says 'i survived el questro road' instead of 'i survived the gibb'. Came at the end of season and stayed because we thought it would be nice and relaxing after driving corrugated roads for 5 days. The lady at reception was lovely however we were greeted with a $90 payment for ONE night. An unpowered site, 2 adults and 2 dogs. The staff didn't explain about the costs well enough or even ask if we wanted to do any walks etc. The charge was about half of that for the campsite and the other half was for a 'park pass' which you need to be able to get into the gorges, walks, lookouts etc. We told them on check in we had 2 dogs and their response was 'yeah not a problem', took our $90 and failed to mention that we can't actually take the dogs anywhere. There's no dog signs on all the walks (fair enough when they're so rocky etc, wouldn't want to take the dogs down them anyway) but they should have told us that at the start because we would have opted not to get a park pass from the beginning because we couldn't even use it. Not only that, they took our money BEFORE advising that more than half of the gorges/walks were shut and the ones that were opened were dried up. We were there at the end of the season so we knew this would be the case and we weren't there for the walks. But we still had to pay the exact same price as someone who travelled during peak times. Made no sense.
Not to mention our camp was on the river bank where as soon as dark came there were tonnes of cane toads and even a snake in our camp! Again, we have dogs and we told them that on check in!
We're so disappointed. We will be doing the gibb river road again in peak season but I think next time, we will drive straight past el questro and not down their road!
Great facilities. Bar and restaurant are good. You can cool off in the creek and lits of great walks into surrounding gorges.
Nice station, but waaaaaay too much light and noise pollution. Camping with the bright glaring lights from a very poorly designed toilet block assaulting every camper is very disappointing, coupled with noise from the generator all night.we get away for time with nature, not to feel we're in a town.
We stayed at the Homestead and it was amazing! The whole property is just breathtaking. The service was first class and nothing was too much trouble for the friendly staff. A special thanks to Nick, cannot pick a person more suited to his job. Thank you to all who made our holiday memorable. Will be recommending to everybody.
Did a day trip so not sure about camping. The station is stunning with lots to see. Lunch at the Steak House was ok. Only suitable for 4x4 and a few spots only if you have a snorkel.
Rocked up and park was more than half closed due to end of season.
This was not a worry, it was our fault for arriving late.
We were put on powered site that was roadside (cars going faster than 20km hr past billowing up dust) with a tree in the middle of the site and virtually no shade in an empty campsite.
We asked for another site seeing as the park was empty but were given one right between 2 large campers and in full sun. We asked for a site we saw just 4 sites down but they said it was closed for maintenance and would have no power, but other campers had their power attached to the same box.
Staff were indifferent and unfriendly towards us and it all just seemed like too much effort.
We spoke to some other campers who were also put on that same site but asked for it to be changed, they felt the staff were useless and unfriendly.
We asked for a refund and left. They reluctantly gave us the park pass refund, but felt that because we used the road and spent a total of 45mins in the park we should still pay it.
$113 for one night in what is essentially a closed park with a terrible camp-site seems a bit ridiculous.
Didn’t stay, but did the day trip from Kununurra which was great value, and a fabulous opportunity to see some of the highlights of El Questro
I didn't stay here, but it was very popular, had a variety of accommodation options. Restaurant, shops etc
Nice location with clean amenities and friendly staff however they are the smallest powered sites we have come across in 4 months of traveling and the most expensive.
We had tented accommodation which turned out to be great. The downside for us was that we didn’t have a vehicle and although we tried to book tours ahead, there was practically nothing available to us on arrival. Thankfully we received outstanding service from both Bonny in the admin who was most helpful in getting us on tours, and Todd who transported us and was also a knowledgeable and thoughtful guide. Great low key service from most of the other staff but these two in particular went beyond what was expected to make our stay much more relaxing and enjoyable. Thank you so much.
The experience at El Questro starts with a 16 km of corrugated track and a few water crossings. I staid at the camping and it is a bit pricey but all amenities are clean, no pool but an access to the river. The resort isn't very "wild": there's heaps of activities offered, including horse riding, which I really recommend. I was a bit shocked by the aircon installed in front of each permanent tent this is definitely not wild and far from ecological. Would be good to have stainless cuttlery when dining in, not plastic.
Had a great time. Great facilities. The rooms were fairly basic but clean.
The only comment I may have is to consider a non smoking policy on the grounds or a designated area for smoking - our neighbours were smoking and our room was filled by the cigarette smell! It's rather unpleasant for families with young children!
What a place you have to visit this place great food and drinks. Fantastic service what a great spot to chill.
Be aware the sealed road is only to the turn off into the station. It is a reasonable unsealed road but two water crossings to get to the station caravan park.
Service great
Meal - burger great a little on the expensive side.
