Dôme Café - Albany reviews
55Great coffee, drink as soon as it arrives as it won't get any warmer. Not for first dates but good for alone time, sit outdoors for the car park views and less echoes. Bring baby wipes to clean your table and cutlery. Best banana bread in town, highly recommend looking around at what others are eating first. Historic school building.
I ordered a steak sandwich, but I wasn't given a proper knife to cut the sandwich (I don't understand why some restaurants serve steak without a steak knife), my meat was tasteless. The menu is huge! Perhaps the other dishes are tasty.
Ordered pulled pork sliders. Flavourless the meat was terrible and the bread stale. Chips were burnt. I will not be back!
We are visiting your beautiful town down from the city for a week to attend a family wedding. We usually go to the Vic Park Dome which is fantastic. Was a little disappointed in the Albany cafe, very subdued atmosphere and the staff looked unhappy. The food was good but not quite at the same standard as the Vic Park caf. Not sure if it was just a bad day? - Nice enough building but not sure if being between the highway and overlooking a carpark takes something away from the vibe -
Incredibly loud. There's no soft furnishings to absorb the noise, so it just bounces off the walls and causes a hellish cacophony whilst you're trying to enjoy a meal and talk to people.
Not at all safe for people, like me, who have sensory issues.
To improve, I'd strongly recommend Dome to invest in some sound boards to put on the walls to absorb some of the noise.
Had this happen the last few Times. 1 coffee comes out then waited 10 minutes for the other coffee. Then the same happened with our meals. Why dont staff bring out both coffees at the same time and meals ordered at the same table should be brought out at the same time not 10 minutes apart. The wait staff are always very polite. Think Kitchen and coffee station need to lift there game.
I used visit for lunch quite often, but haven’t been back for months now. I came for lunch today and was so impressed and surprised that the employee who took my order amazingly remembered exactly how I like my meal. I cannot tell you how much this was appreciated. What a stand out employee to remember such fine details about people’s orders. She was wearing an all black uniform and made me feel so welcomed. You are an absolute asset to the team - thankyou for your amazing customer service!
So the price-quantity is outrageous! 23$ for 1 piece of bread with avo and salmon and eggs, that's a kids meal! Way too small for the price you pay! Not going to a Dome anytime soon anymore!
Have been going to Dome Albany every week for the past year and the breakfast I received today was disgusting. Eggs overcooked and hard (asked for soft), tomato burnt, toast was just slightly warm bread and no butter. I know they were busy, but it’s no excuse to serve almost inedible food.
Uncomfortable seats.
Atmosphere lacking. Not great for groups but with a bit of table and chair moving it's ok.
Furniture old style.
A visiting musician would give it some LIFE.
Food & coffees high standards, queuing however a bit odd as customers corralled passed others in close proximity. Not at all COVID conscious setup.
Very prompt friendly service, a bit of a wait due to the time of the year but very tasty and quenching evergreen drink
Worst experience ever! We had a toddler with us and we are a family of four but we’re not given a bigger table …the guy was so rude when we asked for a bigger table. Will never come back here
I bought takeaway food, ordered the fish tacos and a ham and cheese toastie. The fish tacos mentioned it had avocado aioli, cabbage and something tangy (can't remember the exact description). What I got was something that didn't taste like fish at all, maybe it was frozen fish fingers, because that didn't taste fresh either, there was no avocado or aioli, just a thick bed of cabbage with what was supposed to be fish and something that looked like a spicy mayo but didn't really taste like anything. I could only taste the cabbage. The toastie was way too toasted, the edge was too hard for my kid to bite it.
I will definitely stick to breakfasts only and dessert as that's always really good. Breakfast and desserts are the only reason why I'm giving it 3 stars, but only based on today, I would give it 1.
*****
I had the bacon stack (I think that's the name) with poached eggs, asked for hollandaise on the side and my husband had the big breakfast (he gave me the roasted tomato) and everything was really good. This is not the first time coming here but they usually have nice staff and amazing cakes, we love the carrot and chocolate cake.
Located inside the old Albany Primary School, this Dome is quite spacious and has plenty of indoor seating. Albany Plaza is just next door, convenient if you have shopping or a grocery run to do.
Absolute bedlam, but school holidays make that a part of life. Better availability of outdoor seating would be a great addition to Dome with Covid rampant in the community.
The food was quite good, with drinks arriving fast. However, the 45min wait for waffles and scrambled eggs/ bacon/ toast wasn't great on a windy cold day outside.
Kids were a little disappointed with their junior waffles not having icecream (as pictured). After reading the kids menu again we realised had choice of up to two toppings, but they hadn't realised when ordering. TBH wasn't even obvious to us adults, but in the chaos these things are easily missed. Staff seemed stressed and overloaded, but tried their best to make the experience pleasant. Would go again, but maybe not during school holidays or a pandemic.
Go here because your go to fave meal is here and you know what you're gonna get. You know it's good because it's always busy and you're lucky to get a booth
Fantastic menu, great location & easy access. All breakfast came out very good value. Indoor/outdoor dinning. Great 4 breakfast, brunch or lunch. Recommend a visit
Food is always amazing places is clean and tidy and love how they have colouring pencils and paper to keep the little ones happy
Oh was really the worst sea food basket and a large bowl of chips I have ever had the chips was cold and the fish was swimming in fat in the bottom of the paper in the bowl it was all over cooked gross the oil need to be changed, usual nice food but not on Saturday yuk
