Went in for a brief conversation with a defence force recruiter today seeking information about applying and enlisting. Left with an application process and with all the relevant information needed and high hopes.

Very positive, professional and educational experience. A credit to the ADF in perth, will be following through with the application process

I have applied to this lot to join the weekend warriors and got to the telephone interview stage which the case manager couldn't be bothered to keep to. He ended up ringing two hours later when I went back to work and then decided to ghost me when I followed up. Who wants to be working alongside clowns like that.

I'd rather take my chances elsewhere!

We went to attend the ADF session at 6: 00 pm. But there was no one there? Nor in the lobby? There was 2 number’s to
call but no answer from either number? And there were other people waiting too and they let us in as the doors were locked.
I don’t understand if the information session is canceled why are we not notified? Had a long drive to get there and a long drive home again. Extremely disappointed.

The staff are brilliant at their jobs, and they run many helpful sessions for potential candidates. Always feel very welcome and comfortable when I go in for various reasons. Of course, this is a recruiting centre and is not a representation of the whole defence force. As a recruiting agency, they are professional and competent and make the application process very smooth.

Is review is more about Defence Force Recruiting (DFR) rather than the Australian Defence Force (ADF - Australia's armed services).

Recruitment staff for DFR are civilians contracted by Manpower. This includes the 'defence' psychologist.

The process can be quite long depending (not just a few hours but more around the 4-5 hour mark) on how many other applicants are there. All staff (military and civilian) are professional and applicants are all polite, after all it's a job interview with the military.

Be prepared to have your buttons pushed by the psychologist, they're meant to do that. I agree with the other review posted here as the psychologist I talked to could have been more professional (he also seemed to have a high opinion of himself).

This centre holds lots of useful seminars and can point you in the right direction if you are considering the military as a career choice. I'd suggest you do your own research first to have an idea of what you want to do beforehand though. This helps in the application process a lot. The defence jobs website is a good place to start.

Hint: If you ever want to arrange appointments, it's best to see them IN PERSON at their reception because they take an unusually long time to answer emails. Calling directly doesn't help because they don't seem to answer their phones. Be advised that applications can take several months to process. This is a government department after all.
If you ever proceed with an application with the ADF, best advice I can give is *be prepared*. Spend the time studying your role carefully as you are expected to fully understand what you are getting yourself into when you apply.

Not sure where they get their so-called "psychologists" from. I found mine somewhat questionable.

Another Hint: Don't get suckered in by the DFR public advertisements at face value. If you can, ask current or previous ADF personnel about your intentions because they will give you a far more of an honest perspective of what it's really like than the commercials ever will. One recruitment staff member who took a seminar advised against that, oddly enough.

Good luck with your application, though I'd rather not be a disposable government-owned pawn piece for such a liberalised institution motivated by the interests of certain foreign lobbyists.
