Cast designed and helped manage a second story addition to our home.
David was fantastic to work with from project conception to completion. He was calm and always helped to solve any problems that came up along the way. Our original builder went bankrupt which was incredibly stressful and David helped guide us through the process our filing insurance paperwork and tendering with new builders.
We have now been in our home for 2 years. It is beautiful and functional. It completely fulfilled our brief of connection with our outdoor space and bringing in light.
It is so stunning that we have people knocking at our door to get the name of our architect.

We were thrilled by the architectural design work on our home extension undertaken by David Barr and his team at Cast Studio.

Case Studio has a strong planning and design process and keeps clients engaged and informed in every aspect of the project. The team successfully translated our rough ideas into beautiful and leading architectural plans. We were also extremely impressed by how well David worked through the at times complex Council approval processes in the heritage area where our house is located (Subiaco). We found David and his team very thoughtful in working with us and very talented in all aspects of architectural design.

David Barr has some great work, most notably the "gen y / step house" design which is often proudly advertised. However this firm also delivered the most hideous, bland, boring and out of place apartment complex in Fremantle. These apartments are known as the "M/28 Apartments" and are on South Terrace. I apologise to those that have to live in the vicinity of this monster which destroys the character of trendy and historical South Freo. It is the hypocrisy of David Barr that is the greatest crime! How can an architecture firm which describes the heritage protection clauses of the well known and prestigious Mt Lawley as "draconian" also have its office in the State Heritage Listed West End of Fremantle? Perhaps the modernist paradise of Cockburn Central would suit better? If heritage is so "draconian", then why have an office in a Heritage Precinct? David Barr is capable of some great work such as the "gen y / step house" & the Lawley project. Just please keep the hypocrisy & grotesque, out of character projects away.

I was extremely satisfied with the feasibility advice and concept designs provided by David Barr Architects for a commercial redevelopment. What I really admire is their commitment to sustainability and heritage values, and their responsiveness to the creative ideas and budget of the client. I definitely hope to work with David and team in the future.

I engaged David Barr and his talented team to design my home, on a tricky site and busy location. What has been achieved is so so clever and extremely refined. The end result is better than I could have possibly imaged, I put this down to the practices fantastic design aesthetic, unique briefing process and constantly listening to every word I said. This review is well overdue to say the least. However, it probably carries more weight as it hasn't been written in the immediate "honeymoon period" where everything is likely to be unrealistically fantastic. However, I'm delighted to report that after moving in some 2 years ago, it is absolutely fantastic! We simply could not be happier with the home David Barr designed for us, and his careful oversight during the build stage. Right from the initial planning meeting, it was clear we had landed on the right team. David very quickly understood what we wanted and was more than happy for us to generate ideas and collaborate along the way. David's ideas and suggestions were excellent and anything but cookie cutter. We pretty much adopted all of his ideas. His selection of materials and critically, his suggested builder (Interstruct), ensured what we all thought was achievable became a reality. There's always going to be some compromise when building, and we had to rein ourselves in at times, but working closely with David, we found a way and didn't end up with any regrets. From a back office perspective, everything was completed with utmost professionalism, including plans, approvals, accounts, etc. If you are reading this and want to work with someone who genuinely gets it, and is as invested as you are in your dream home, look no further. We are so grateful that we found David Barr Architects. David successfully faced the challenge of our modest budget plus some strict council heritage rules to develop a home that we absolutley love.
