I totally adored this experience with the ever knowledgeable and welcoming Andrea at play make studio. We thoroughly enjoyed throwing clay. After a few disasters, a few creations were made. We will be back for sure.

I love Clay Make Studio. It's a great vibe and the team are always helpful. I always feel welcome and part of a small community. Hanging out in the space and seeing all the inspiring work being made by everyone around me is so good.

I utilised the firing service at claymake for around 6 months. I not once had a positive experience when I visited. Any time I visited to drop off my pieces or pick them up, I was never greeted, never smiled at, and was always looked at as an inconvenience when I needed to ask for help or to pay for my pieces. It left me feeling very anxious to visit each time. I tried to be as kind as possible to every worker but was only ever met with negative energy. I was never treated as a valued customer. This place is incredibly uninviting and I would not recommend for anyone considering them for this service. Even though ClayMake is within 2 minutes drive from my house, I am now making the 30 minute drive to have my pieces fired at another studio, which has already shown a stark difference in their approachability even after only 2 visits.

Love this place so much! $75 for three hours of unlimited items to make. The staff are knowledgeable and will teach you well and it’s well priced and valued.

I've been going to Claymake for just over a year now. I started with a one-off handbuilding course and have been hooked ever since. Claymake has super reasonable pricing and friendly, helpful staff/artists. There's a great camaraderie between potters so advice is never too far away.
I love my time in the studio and use the facilities around twice a week. There's almost always a wheel free to get creative with!

Visited during a one week holiday to Perth! I’d bookmarked this place even before I reached. I really liked the “drop-in” sessions they have available. Real rarity around the area I think! Wheels and tools for use and felt really free and easy once you have everything sorted. I guess the unfortunate thing for me in my experience was my interactions with some staff.

It was my first time there and I ultimately did get help with all the things I needed but some staff members were really unfriendly and made me feel unwelcome. I was talked to in annoyed/impatient/dismissive tones though my questions were pretty fundamental and valid I think. I felt like my experience level was being questioned initially, or that I was a bother every time I needed help or clarification. My first time there I’d asked the first staff member I saw about the drop in sessions and she’d rolled her eyes at me. (I would’ve left at that point had I not just take a 30 minute Uber ride to get to ClayMake.) The method of trimming here seemed different from my usual so I’d asked about it to make sure I was respecting their space/materials. And when I asked I got, “Well what do you normally do… Uh, then just do that? ” before she walked away. Even trying to make payment, I was asked to go find someone else like I was being a bother.

If there are specific roles for each staff member and work is clearly delegated, and customers are expected to not ‘agitate’ staff by going to the incorrect person, it would be great if that could be made explicit in some way. If the owners don’t want to be bothered or don’t want to talk to people who are visiting, it would be good to make that explicit too. I felt like I was breaking some unspoken rule or that I was paying to feel like an intruder. Pottery studios have always been a safe space for me and a way to improve my mental health, but the numerous negative interactions I had with ClayMake has just been bothering me so much. Do visit if you have prior experience and you have time to feel your way around the studio yourself. I’m flying off in a few hours but the next time I’m in Perth, I doubt I’ll go back…

I’ve done two courses here, and could not recommend them highly enough. I thoroughly enjoyed learning both clay throwing on the wheel, and most recently I did human body sculptures with Emma. Thank you for such a fun experience, hope to be back again soon!

I have done the Saturday pottery wheel workshop and absolutely loved it. I followed it with the glazing workshop and this was also fantastic. Wendy is a great technician.

One of the women who works here was extremely confrontational and unreasonably rude that threw me off. This was unnecessary. Other than that unfortunate experience, the place is great and I would recommend it.

Very poor customer service and communication

Your reply is, “Nothing we can do? ”

All You did was shrug your shoulders…. And pocket $150.00 for doing nothing……

The classes were for 3 little girls. Yes it is my fault I got the days mixed up and arrived thinking it was the booking.

I’ll give you some suggestions on what you could do!

1. You had my contact details, a customer friendly business would have called to say, “hey you missed your class
2. I live 100 meters from your business
3. As a repeat customer you could have offered another class to the girls

Adam taught our Saturday afternoon casual wheel work class and he was absolutely brilliant! My partner and I were total beginners and this class was great for us! Because Adam helped people individually he was able to help us turn our clay blobs into pottery, but he was also able to help the more advanced students try new skills and create more advanced works. Groovy atmosphere and really friendly vibes all round!

A group of colleagues and I had a group class at ClayMake Studio recently. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was actually a lot of fun learning to work with clay on the wheel. The staff are informative, fun, and friendly. We all enjoyed the afternoon and now have our own little handmade treasures.

What a fabulous place to learn some clay skills. Perth could do with more like this. Andrea and Emma are so knowledgeable and generous as teachers. Definitely a super venue to attend a class or take up a studio space. This is the home of enthusiasm for all things clay.
