Chalet Healy Cafe reviews
43 Old menu left on table tried to order no longer serving breakfast issues with cash register poor service along with getting our order wrong while still charging us
Food was cold, overcooked and oversalted and drinks came late
DO NOT RECOMMEND
Takeaway coffee cups in a dine in establishment are unacceptable, and environmentally irresponsible. Would expect more from a cafe in a NATIONAL PARK!
Oh, and advertising sconeS with jam and cream, and serving a single scone with a tablespoon of pre-packaged jam. Also what is it in Australia with whipped cream on scones?
My companion ordered a piece of apple pie. They must use a fillet knife to cut these so thin.
Not to mention counter service only with a 12 minute queue, and unassigned tables that you need to provide a number for? With two people proves difficult to select your cake and guard your table.
Been here previously during the Tulip festival and no real issues either time. What has changed?
Worst experience ever with food and service. Extremely rude waitresses who fight with customers with pure aggression. Confusion with the seating arrangements. Don’t waste your time coming here, bring your own lunch. After this experience I will never visit Araluen again.
Nice Cafe in the botanical garden. Great views with plenty of seating and a decent selection of menu items for breakfast and lunch.
Can't speak for the coffee but the hot chocolate was awesome! Ended up having 2!
Lunch was great, the caesar salad was perfect and would have again time and time again.
Overall decent experience, thank you.
We shared the falafel salad bowl which was lovely unfortunately the coffee was very average and we only got one undercooked floury scone with canned cream for $8.50, seriously?
Very expensive for what we got, one salad, 2 coffees and one scone, I think $54.00 is a bit over the top!
Fantastic food!
The crispy Squid is to die for and the Japanese Wagu steak is by fat the best bit of meat I've had in a very long time.
Well done!
Save your money and avoid this place. I went there with my parents and my toddler on Monday, and we experienced the worst service ever. We had to queue 15min just to order, they had run out of most sweet options (it was 11am) and the only tea available was English Breakfast. We paid $35 for 2 teas, a cappucino, a babycino ($3!) and 2 small slices of cake. We then had to wait more than 30min to be served. The teas were just teabags in hot water, the cappucino didn't have any chocolate and the babycino was just a small cup of cold milk. We complained but weren't taken seriously so after waiting 10min we left.
I accept that cafes are under pressure at the moment, it's hard to find staff, and given the location, I can also understand the high prices. But there is no excuse for the poor quality of the drinks we were served, and the complete lack of care for the customers. Never again!
Beautiful visit to the park on father's day with my family. The cafe is pretty, but a little dated with decor. However, the staff were wonderful and put up with the pressure. You could see they were busy. Great burger! Hot chocolate to die for. Coffee a little weak for me, I should have got an extra shot! Overall, great day out with family, wonderful cafe staff, good café style food. I will be back next year.with hopefully more tulips on display.
Recently went there for "Devonshire Tea" and left disappointed.
Plus points: the view was lovely.
The scones and tea were just okay, but the service and presentation was very lacking.
We were dining in but tea was served in paper cups with bag left in.
Poor quality jam in little plastic container.
They gave the wrong type of tea to my friend and we had to go and ask for it to be changed.
It took forever to come and we were told they couldn't find us, despite us being the only people on the lower level where we told them we were sitting there.
They were about to microwave the scones.don't do this please, or at least ask first.
Overall disappointing.next time we'll remember to BYO Thermos and scones.
Visited opening of the season. Love the new management. The food is amazing and friendly staff. Such a tasty lunch thanks to the new chef
I've been to this restaurant often in the last 40 years or so, Historic, nostalgic, even romantic, surrounded by large Natives and some not so native trees like the large bay leaf which did fall many years in a storm but grew even after it had fallen, i hope someone knows about this, But it was a popular place and its seems to be making a come back, I like the hills and the atmosphere of this place is simply stunning, I also attended a wedding here and it was beautiful,
The service was very average, there seemed to be alot of confusion. The meals were served on a plastic tray, and were inedible with " extra pieces" in that were indescribable. The salad consisted of some wilted rocket leaves with no dressing or anything else. Definately not worth the prices they are charging.
Seriously, cafe/restaurant closes at 1.30pm? Needs a bit of competition to improve opening hours, maybe more food trucks should muscle in. There's a beautiful seating area in the lower area which would make a very pleasant eating area. Come on Araluen Botanic Park authority please take this issue on board. Otherwise a beautiful setting and day out. Next time, we will bring our picnic lunch!
There are BBQ facilities. Pack a picnic and save yourself the expensive disappointment.
We booked ahead to ensure a table for Father’s Day breakfast at 10am.
Ended up in a traffic cue for 20 mi utes so my son got our and went to make sure we did t lose our table. They ordered coffee and when we arrived we also ordered coffee and breakfast. The lady came out with our coffees and put one in front of a person that clearly already had a coffee and her thumbs were all over the saucer. (Gross) Easy fix they were busy so we just juggled them around so everyone had one.
Then the wait started…. It literally took just over an hour for our breakfasts to arrive and when they did, they were 2 at a time. We instructed the kids to go ahead and eat so theirs didn’t get any colder than they already were.
When ours arrived more than 5 minutes after that (also cold) there was a Hash brown sitting on top that looked like they had found it on the floor under the stove!
I obviously didn’t eat it but did show the girl at the till when we were paying for our meals. She made a joke about the chef, but really couldnt have cared less. No offer to remove the price of the hash brown from the bill or even a proper apology. Unacceptable for 120 dollar breakfast.
It’s such a shame because the weather was perfect, the grounds of Araluen are beautiful.
I was told this cafe building was built in the late 19th century. It is old but structurally solid. So nice to get a table during non-peak hours. The Bonissimo coffee bean was dark roasted. The Long Macchiato top-up was a bit smooth and nutty. I liked the roasted aroma and a bit sour taste. This cafe had a romantic atmosphere because of the thoughtful decoration with woods, timber supports, grape trees, and flower plants. It has another corner just for takeaway coffee. What a nice place to have good coffee and a good view of varieties of colourful tulips. Cheers! (2021-09-19)
Great lunch here today. Goats cheese salad and pavlova and coffee afterwards. Wonderful service by our waitress Diane. Thanks. Tulips were fantastic
Before going to the Cafe I hD checked for opening times. When we got there we were told it was by bookings only. Had we known prior we would have booked. We weren't the only disappointed people there
I was at the cafe in Araluen Gardens today and visited the Chalet Healey Cafe and the male person working as the cashier today had an extremely amazing attitude towards customers, he went out of his way to ensure that we were well looked after and without any hesitation charged my phone and also when my internet was not working he connected my phone to his personal internet provider as well enabling me to have access to the internet. He was extremely helpful and should be commended fir his fantastic customer service.
Been coming for a few years cant believe they got rid of the lovely girls who worked there and the old menu. Such a long wait for cold rushed expensive meal. Why change something good. So disappointed, not coming back.
We really enjoyed our meal at Chalet Healy. Service was very friendly, and the food was fantastic. They accommodated our dietary requirements with no problem, and served up a delicious meal very quickly. We'll definitely return!
