Cervantes General Store

Very disappointing. As the only place in town we found the selection very limited and what they had was without price, so the surprise comes when you get to cashier. With no butchery in town, better to bring all goods from Perth as meat options also very limited, the same with bakery, was unable to find any bread in the afternoon.

The good:
- Fantastic that there is a general store in a remote town with a small population

Concerns:
- drinks in fridge were warm (even the ones at the back)
- lights in fridges were off (didn't check whether they were cool)
- Icecreams we bought had clearly been through a few defrost/refreezing cycles

It does raise the concern that there is inadequate adherence to food safety requirements, and although I always seek to support local businesses, I would not risk my health based on the evidence available. Thus I would not purchase products which require appropriate handling (meat, vegetables) from this store. Even if the food was handled perfectly, there is not customer trust (lights were off, icecreams poorly handled)

Suggestions for improvement:
- Please review whether fridges are compliant (i.e. Are actually meeting temperature goals). There appears to be plenty of empty fridges, so perhaps consolidate stock and perform maintenance on the ones which are off.
- I understand it may be difficult to source parts/workers in a remote area however I would encourage the owner to consider the consequences 1.no one feels confident therefore does not purchase (lost profits) 2.they were found to be noncompliant with food safety guidelines and someone got sick/died, I suspect there may be fines for this.

If it were not for the icecreams which had clearly been throught a few defrost/freeze cycles, I would have assumed perhaps the fridges had just been stocked or maybe the lights were off to save power. So hopefully I am incorrect in this regard, however, just taking time out of my busy life to help the owner at least remedy the impression that this left:)

Items on shelves have mis-labled prices from other products or no price labelled at all. I also was not offered a receipt after paying.
I now drive to Jurien Bay Iga.

The most run down store I’ve ever come across. The grumpy lady at the counter was extremely rude and was more concerned watching her movies in the background than provide advice in where things are. Most things out of date, no prices attached and needs a clean. If you want to know what dump looks like with the smell come for a look.

Mushrooms had mould on them, steak in the freezer was black and almost two weeks out of date. If you buy food from here, CHECK THE EXPIRY DATE. They sure don't.

Cervantes General Store at Cervantex

It is a large store but about a quarter of the store is empty or out of stock. Could it be that time is tough to hold stock during the uncertain time of COVI-19 or due to supply chain problem?

For such a remote township with only 300 people, this General Store does have enough variety of foods and goods to supply the locals and visitors to the Pinnacles.

Comparatively the prices are much higher than supermarkets, but they are far away. We buy some vegetables and sausages to cook with Noodles we brought along from Melbourne.

The staff is ok with their service attitude.

I hate to give such a low rating to anyone and never have. However when I walk into a convenience store and ask "Hi where can I find the bread? " and I'm told by a very unhappy looking lady "if you open your eyes you'll find it at the back! " I have no choice but to rate it this low. She could've been having a bad day but no reason to talk to a customer who has walked into your store to make a purchase in that manner. I was in total shock and walked straight out and went to the service station down the road. I went in asked exactly the same question and the young girl who served me there was extremely nice. So it is obvious where I went for all subsequent purchases.

Terrible service. The lady at the check out needs to learn how to have customer service. She’s extremely rude. The shop looks like it needs a huge clean. The bakery man is also rude. Wouldn’t recommend. The other shops are so much better and friendlier.

Near by to the the RAC caravan park, has everything you need. Good for ice creams for the kids.

Reasonable range for a small coastal town. Prices are elevated of course, but not excessively so. Plenty of parking around the store.

It is actually a good little store to pick up those few little pieces that u need at the last minute.

For the only store in town it's a real shame for locals and tourists. They have the monopoly in town and aren't using it to their advantage at all. The stock is a shambles, not priced, overpriced, the shelves aren't stocked, it's dirty and uninviting. The limited fresh produce that is available is ok but you couldn't rely on it. I've seen plenty of small towns that are quite capable of providing a wonderful and useful general store. Head to Jurien if you need to shop!

Looks like it is closing down, very little of anything useful, just junk food and no fresh produce. Mouldy capsicum and brown bannanas.

The person working in here was nice, the place have not much in it, most of everything was with not price, a bit expensive, but I think that is normal when you compare with a shop from Perth

The unique general store present in Cervantes, you know when watching those American movies with people at the gas station enter this remote place where the counter looks at you very bored chewing a gum and playing with their mobile? Here we go this is the general store in Cervantes, welcome!

Found the lady in the general store not so nice. Said the whole town was on bore water (I don't know what she thinks everyone from Cervantes up is drinking,) and nowhere to top up our m/h water tanks. On a different note, the lady in the post office was very nice and said we could fill up at any park tap.

Extremely rude woman who served us, all we wanted was a nice ice cream to finish off our day! Won’t be recommending friends visiting Cervantes due to rude locals! Well done lady

V run down. Stock is like only 1 or 2 pcs. V messy but basic needs can b found there at gd price

Lady working is rude and unfriendly, gives you a dirty look upon entering (sorry for entering your store to spend $8 on parmesan cheese).

This is a tired supermarket with zero choice. Time for the owners to step up or step out and let someone with fresh ideas and enthusiasm step in.
