If you're in search of building advice or expertise, it's worth considering other sources with more qualified professionals. The B & E's role is its administrative function, serving as a registrar for builders who have met the necessary legal requirements.
Obtaining a passport from Australia Post doesn't necessarily make them the go-to source for travel advice. Similarly, while the B & E facilitates builder registrations, it might not be the best resource for comprehensive building guidance.

We have to pay lots of money for licensing and the lazy person didn’t want to give me the form, keep asking me to print on my own from website while I drove long distance there to finalised my registration

There is no point of having this organisation just wasting TAC PAYERS money. Every single complex building disputes they are just forwarding to SAT.

Pathetic!
Let illegal and substandard plumbing work go and chase easy targets for paperwork issues
Typical lazy incompetent government rubbish

The worest department in the Australia,

i lodged a complain against a builder who put the slab on my land without buildering approval from the council, first time i lodge the complain the department kept asking for more evidence over the course of 4 months, after 4 months they said i lodge the wrong complain instead of normal complain it should be contract dispute, so i had to lodge another complaint and write contract dispute, and now after 5 months they said there is not much we could do because the builder not answering and they moved my case to the State tribunal,

so now i decided to finish building house myself, so lodge i owner builder and its already being 2 months and 6 times i called to check the progress, and now they saying the person in charge of my case is on leave, so if i hadnt called no one would finish my application

just bad bad department wast of tax money

Ordered a re-print of my Plumbing contractors license over 3 weeks ago. I had no contact or word from the department that they had never processed it as they were waiting further details regarding payment. I had already made payment and provided a tax invoice receipt. Now having to wait more weeks on end for my ticket. The utter incompetence of this department never ceases to amaze me.

Can't find a reason to give any less than 5 stars. I spoke to a building surveyor about the Australian Building Codes and the requirement for a firewall in my shed. The requirement was very quickly and correctly squashed and reasoning explained. Very satisfied.

Strange how my previous review isnt showing.the other 1 start comments and opinions sum it up nicely

Not to mention the actions of the apparent under qualified "Resident Builder" giving personally opinionated irrelevant evidence at the SAT against the other Party in what can only be explained as a personal vendetta against the other party
Clearly the Commission have lost their ways for both the consumer and the builder
Response from the owner a week ago
"Building and Energy provides an avenue for both consumers AND BUILDERS to resolve disputes relating to regulated building services and home building work contracts"
additionally,
if your matter relates to Building, Heritage, building contracts or the like, you'd get better help from the primary school down the road and it wouldn't cost you your mental health and all that you own to get through it.it appears,
-Building is not their expertise
-The Minister never responds to anything
-The "Commissioner Code" is fluid and is made up on the day to suit an
agenda
-The enforcement arm appears to not be interested in facts outside of
their opinionated jurisdiction

Such a wasteful Government Department, but I like giving constructive feedback too
It would be good if they had some people that know Building employed in this department

Every time I seek advice from Building and Energy, I get a standard response to put through a complaint OR go and seek your own legal advice. I am not sure why the department EXIST. They are meant to be a governing body but instead they are doing absolutely nothing to help consumers (and let the builders do whatever they want!). Don't call it's a waste of your time.

If your seeking information about building you're in the wrong place. It's not really their subject.

As with everyone else, what is this department even for when they cannot do anything legal themselves. All they do is say here is an order. No enforcement, no backup, not worth the paper it is written on. When you speak to someone there, the only response you get is go speak to the Magistrates Court.

Toothless tiger. 2 building orders and builder ignored both of them. Building commission powerless to do anything to the builder. Builder still trading and licensed despite ignoring the building commission throughout the complaints process.
They really need to have tougher laws and treat building licenses like drivers licenses.

Maybe large fines and imprisonment would clean up the industry but we have very weak enforcement.

Amy was by far the most incompetent lady in charge of “real estate” enquiries. What a sad waste of a person - has no idea about customer service. Rude

Totally useless department that are totally unable to help the general public that cares nothing about plumbers and are all about revenue raising. A truly despicable and useless buisness at the BEST of times, im trying to be kind.

I rang for advice about building codes to do with a specific year and a specific case today (16/4/20) and got excellent, informative information and very promptly. Thank you to the builder who was rostered on.

It boils down to a bureaucrat which sit at his desk and tick the boxes, and if your complaint falls between check-box n4 and check-box n5 there is nothing they can do. We have started the complaint going through customer protection, then we were told that we should talk with Building and energy, now it appear that Building and energy has nothing to do with customer protection, so if you follow in this type of problems, there is no customer protection to protect you. You tell this to the bureaucrat (S. C.thank you mate) and you get answers like:
this is not how the `process` work
we are not customer protection
yes, I understand and agree with you but there is nothing we can do.

Have extensively discussed the problem before placing the complaint and everything was ok, have presented past email correspondence with the contractor, have highlighted each point of what happened and at what point. The problem is that (according to the senior inspector) it not important at all what the trady has said in the past, you will need to prepare a pile of documents to present the problem anyway. In all of this tradies just do as they please because nobody will ever spend that money which are much more then physical cost of fixing the issue.
My question is why this is not asked at the beginning of the process? Why we were asked for evidence (email correspondence was good enough at that point) if this has no validity anyhow? This has to follow this odd and tricky `process`.
At the end you just give up and accept that the system has beaten you, you will agree on a resolution which is provided on `good will` of the company.
It is shocking how far behind we are in terms of protecting customer`s rights in Australia.
Well done Building and Energy, keep it up!

Waste of money putting in complaint about my exploding glass in my sliding doors. Not one panel but 2 panels spontaneously exploding in 2 years. Had photos and insurance claims but they deemed not enough evidence. Not once did anybody bother to come out and inspect remaining glass panel. Put your money to better use.

This commission is a waste of time for general public questions and guidance. Suggest you seek help elsewhere.
