Broome Bird Observatory reviews
28Visited twice a month apart. Saw NO BIRDS! Really! Supposed to be a major stopover on big migration routes for many species. Plenty of birds in Broome visible from the day cruises but not from the observatory.
Great campsite and camp kitchen where you can watch birds and kangaroos from the window while washing up. Beautiful coastline.
Good tours with enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff. We stayed in the bush9 camping area, and while the sites are a little tight and the facilities a bit old and faded, they're clean and convenient. The Shadehouse is a great spot for a cuppa while watching the birds outside.
Beware though: the condition of the 15km road to the Observatory from the main road can be highly variable and is not always passable in a 2wd vehicle. It's red sand that is highly corrugated and sometimes quite deep in places.
Superb for bird lovers. The BBC runs tours so that you have an even better chance of seeing different birds. Lovely coastal scenery on the way in too. Road a bit ropey but driveable. Excellent with very good Rangers to help.
We were fortunate to have an afternoon with Jimmy Elder, a traditional owner and hear his stories of the local area, it was such a highlight. This is a beautiful and peaceful part of the historic Broome coastline and is looked after by the local community. The park rangers have great information about the local wildlife and bio diversity in the area, there’s also a small shop for some souvenirs and something to drink. Worth a visit, though you’ll need a 4WD:)
Nice place hot in the afternoon. Best time either early morning or evening to visit. Quiet place road to the place is gravel so better to have 4wd but small car can also manage.
What a great place to go bird watching! Coast, mangroves, woodlands, plains and wetlands, what more could you ask? Nigel, the warden, was excellent.
A great place to stay if you love the peace and quiet of nature, the accommodation is basic and great value. The beach is beautiful with pindan red cliffs meeting the stunning blue ocean, and there’s no crowds of people out there! It’s also a spectacular sight when thousands of migratory birds congregate on the shoreline at high tide. As an added bonus it’s an easily accessible place to view the dinosaur footprints, they can be viewed daily at any low tide. It’s a pleasant day trip from Broome for a picnic on the beach, bird watching or fishing, the roads are unsealed and are in good condition. Highly recommend
