Bassendean Rail Transport Museum reviews
49A lot of useful and interesting information. Great knowledge of history of railway. The staff was so amazingly friendly. They offer celebrating birthday for kids here as well. Lucky us that we had a chance to visit this friendly museum.
Is a great place, great seeing the old trains and how they were back in the day. Good to take kids
Trains locomotives and carriages old and even older live and are shown here.
A good collection, they even had one of the diesel engines running whilst we were there.
There is also some train memorabilia and an model railway for those interested.
It's always good to keep history alive for future generations.
Definitely one of the better museums in Perth.
$10 per adult is a fair price for what is offered.
Our kids loved it, and this big kid did too. Load of carriages, engines and many other things railway to explore. Doesn't cost much and run by a bunch of passionate volunteers
Nice collection of mainly steam locomotives and historic carriages. Nostalgic for some, informative for others, recommend to visit.
Wonderful little museum, wish I’d had more time here to look round everything properly. Well laid out and numerous vehicles accessible to look round, staff were also spot on, would recommend!
Visitors from Malaysia here!
Not that hard to get here. And you can just park along the roadside.
We came on Wednesday, final week of Dec last year. Kids highly unlikely get bored here because there’s A LOT to explore. We can go inside most of the train too. Most importantly, I get to show the kids the real choo choo train here haha.
I’m amazed how well maintained this place is. Kudos to the volunteers for their efforts and dedication.
This is a GREAT little gem, I would say as good as if not better than the one in York (UK). Very rustic and they allow the kids to get into the cabs of most of the engines, well worth the visit.
Well worth a visit if your in Northam. A vast collection from the past, arranged and curated with rare personalised service to imform from the staff who attended to myself and some of my family on the day we visited. And as Northam was home to my Father his brother, sisters and my Grandies when first emigrating to Australia in the early 50's, there was a personal connection in some of the exhibits. Tryly a memorable experience for me. Thanks to all who have contributed in the past and on going into the future, to save this fascinating historical place.
Wonderful exhibitions, friendly and helpful staff, great day out suitable for children and adults. Would definitely come again.
Great value, amazing number of locomotives and carriages that take you back in time. Good toilets as well.
Love trains, so loved the museum, amazing collection of retired steam locomotives & diesel locomotives. Loved and was awestruck by the massive/gigantic mining diesel locomotive. Good collection of retired train cars/carriages for people to get in and inspect how trains were in the 50s and 60s. Gives you a sense of nostalgia. God bless all the volunteers who are keeping this place tidy and making it available to public, especially all the train enthusiasts. Pretty decent model railway layout at the back of the museum too. Will definitely go back as too many locomotives and train cars/carriages to finish in one visit!
Had an amazing time here this afternoon! It has a wide range of former WAGR locomotives and carriages as well as a miniature model train display. Highly recommend this place!
A great place to go to experience how our past generations travelled. The trains are very cool!
An interesting, fun place for kids and adults.
Plenty of trains and train related items to see.
You're allowed on most of the carriages and locomotives, and there's information plaques that provide in depth information for many of the exhibits.
There's also a very large model railway exhibit at the back of the museum.
Any queries are readily answered by one of the many volunteers
Very friendly volunteer staff and the whole outlook is very old world steam and diesel oriented.
Great place to spend a couple of hours, entry price is $10 adults, $8 concession and $5 for children
Was here for the Steam festival today with our grandkids. They absolutely loved it. A credit to the organisers and volunteer crew who are incredibly helpful and patient
Full of rich history, lots of trains and a fun afternoon out with any kids who are fascinated with trains: D
My son and I spent a couple of hours looking at the extensive collection of steam trains and diesel trains they have on display and you can actually walk through the carriages and engines which is just awesome to see how far rail has come and to get a better understanding of how trains and rail transport has evolved over the decades. The museum also has a model train exhibition you can see running and the people who volunteer their time are friendly and knowledgeable about all things train related. A thoroughly enjoyable day with plenty to see for anyone interested in trains.
