Yarraville Village Old Style Butchers

Went in to buy mince beef yesterday and the amount I asked for looked like too much once grabbed, so I asked to have some put back and rather than using another plastic bag or gloves to remove some of the mince from the bag, the woman serving me put her bare hands in the bag and took some out and put it straight back into the mince tray right in front of me…. I was gobsmacked and rather than saying no to buying the mince, I just paid for it and left in shock and disgust. In a time where Covid is still at large, germs are everywhere, how is this happening? Especially with raw meat being handled without gloves? At a boutique butchery too? Disgusting.

Needless to say I have thrown that meat away and won’t be buying anymore meat from there which is a shame as I am always looking to buy from and support locals and small business… still feeling horrified and disgusted from this experience. I hope no one else bought the premium mince beef that day….

We've been longstanding customers and can highly recommend this butcher. Whether it's a special order or just my weekly shopping list - the quality is high and consistent. The chicken legs are so much more flavoursome than supermarket fare, and the eye fillet is always tender and delicious no matter how I prepare it. Also an excellent spot for odd occasional things like suet for making the annual christmas pud (in July or December!).

Moved to Footscray 9 months ago and found this little gem in Yarraville! I only buy my meat from here and the staff are super friendly and a custom to any order and any cut. 10/10 service and quality of meat. Best butchers!

Always great quality meat and properly aged. Friendly team who will prepare or order-in special items. Marinated chicken bells are spectacular and great value! As a long term customer and older Yarraville resident, this butcher is highly recommended.

Shop local! This is a great shop - very good quality meat, excellent service, friendly and helpful staff. It is also my dogs' favourite Yarraville shop, and they are always well looked after!

We moved to Yarraville in 2009 and have consistently been using this butcher. Their service is always wonderful, the meat is top quality, and they always have what we want. During the spring/summer barbecue season we regularly are buying the snags, koftas, marinated lamb cutlets, chicken and beef skewers, and whatever else is on offer. I have also ordered an annual Thanksgiving turkey from them (yes, I'm American) and always been satisfied.

Fantastic friendly butcher with great quality meats at good prices, and they are open good hours too.

Wonderful to have YVOSB as part of our village. The meat is great, and the staff are always lovely.

This is my favourite butcher, they always have great ideas for last minute cooking, the clean Chicken burgers are the best as they are
preservative free and always a hit.

So lucky to have this butcher in Yarraville. It’s enough of a joy to come into the shop normally but to have you guys deliver while I’m stuck in iso is really special.

I love this place. I can walk in any day of the week and have a lovely chat with Karen and the team for food inspiration, cooking advice and bloody delicious meat.

Rude and unfriendly staff. I'm a customer and went to the Yarraville store to buy meat, and both myself and my wife got abused for not wearing a mask. We both have a medical exemption. Another customer who was in the store at the same time as us, more than 1.5 metres away, said he was not feeling comfortable with us in there. Staff asked to see our exemptions and told us to go outside to serve us. I advised your staff that it's the not the law to show your medical exemption as it is stated on the DHHS website. Please educate your staff on the what the requirements are during the state of emergency as they discriminated against both myself and my wife. We will never purchase from your store again.

I have always had great service here and the meat is great quality. I have got what I wanted here where other butchers have not bothered to help me at all.

So disappointed. Trying to support local business, encourage good service and quality over convenience, so it's even more disappointing when you're treated this poorly. Asked for short ribs, but there was none. A piece of brisket? Nice, but 2kg. How about 1/2? No, but offer to cut 1kg off another piece. I got the tail and about all of the fat off the full brisket
I chopped a 300g sheath of fat from a 1kg piece of meat. Paid full price, mind. Clear, deliberate, disgraceful, disrespectful treatment of a previously loyal customer. Never been an inexpensive butcher, now just cheap. U happy ripping off your customer? You've lost my business and support.

A Yarraville fixture that has been part of the local community since ages. The awards they got shows their quality and expertise. One of the nicest place to just talk to your butcher and get the right cut you need for your recipes.

Great selection of meats and products. Very friendly staff. Been to both their stores at Yarraville and Williamstown. Both are great!

The gourmet hamburgers are the best I've ever had! Normally make my own, (pretty good) theirs better!
