Yarra Valley Railway reviews
27It's in its original state. Good to read about the history dating back into early 1800
Was closed but we could still get up close with the rolling stock.
It's a shame that the railway was decommissioned in the first place and terrible that Lycra wearing pillocks have requisitioned the rail reserve from Lilydale to halfway to Yarra Glen as a bike track.
Terrific that there are keen enthusiasts and volunteers to keep rich rail heritage alive and running for everyone to enjoy. Tour host Lindsay is entertaining and knowledgeable. Thank you for dedication!
Good experience going on a heritage railmotor along a restored track. Look forwarded to seeing the line extended to Yarra Glen. Well done to the volunteers who operate this line.
Great 30 min activity for the kids with a little booklet to keep them engaged in the activity. Would recommend xx
After a few years of thinking on giving a go we finally made the trip on the train, nice ride and had Steve from Yarra Valley Railway explaining along the way, that made it even greater!
Helpful and cheerful staff taking you back to yesteryear along part of the old Healesville to Lilydale railway line. (At the time I travelled, the rail line in the tunnel had been pulled up to be upgraded, so the tour stopped just short of the tunnel itself).
When you see the railway station, you'll be amazed at the amount of man hours spent bringing it back to this point
As a return visitor, I was delighted to return. This is a great little heritage tourist railway. The volunteer staff are great ambassadors for the railway. The journey is mostly through the countryside, and there are pleasant views to take in.
This is a very family friendly operation and children seem to really enjoy the train ride. Parents seem to enjoy the kids absorbed with the train.
The Yarra Valley Railway is a bit over an hour from Central Melbourne and a fairly easy drive.
From a heritage perspective, this is a fine example of a Victorian Railways country branch line. I would be delighted to return at any time. I highly recommend a visit.
Train rides are at an hourly interval. Wasn't too busy. A nice ride with friendly staff. Kids will enjoy it.
Great service, very friendly and informative conductors, would love to come back again when the tunnel is available
An interesting historical railway showing the way the rail system was in a country town. Completed the visit with a short trip on their restored Walker Railmotor.
Amazing simple little rail ride run by amazing volunteers. Very friendly staff who described the workings of the rail amazingly to my little girl and even let her help out. Thanks guys.
Nice slow ride through the country in the sun with a brick tunnel at the end. Family friendly trip
Quite a nice experience but not a great scenery during the short train ride. Most of the track goes through a gorge where the view is blocked.
My 3 year old enjoyed the ride a lot. The activity sheet was a great way for the kids to learn.
Great little adventure for the kids. My 8 and 4 year old kids loved. The staff is super friendly and lovely with the little ones.
Drove past Yarra Valley Station when we were on the way to Healsville Sanctuary. Thought it was a mini train, but it was a real restored diesel train from 1964. Good experience for us and kids. Run by volunteers, Roly and Bob made us a fun trip.
My daughter loved it. Shes 3 and her first train ride!
The train ride was very short. A couple kms one way then return the same way. Definately needs a reno and extension for tracks.
The train captain and second in charge were the highlight of our experience. They were great with the kids allowing them to enter drivers seat area and toot the horn. Etc.
A really good and interesting place for attractions near yarra valley. I didn’t expect it was a true train at the very beginning. The whole experience was authentic and money worthy. Except they don’t have any AC in the train. The whole trip took around 35 mins, you will pass a tunnel and an old bridge. While the views along the track was Aussie and beautiful.
