Wonthaggi Workmens Club reviews
50Very accommodating pub. Thanks for letting us great some late-night grub! Enjoyed the vegan sweet potato curry.
As a member I thought we’d come and have a couple of meals.
The beef schnitzel was over cooked and not nice at all.
The other meal l ordered was the roast lamb and it was chewy to say the least.
Very disappointing and will give the Workmen’s a miss for some time l think.
We were staying in the associated MJ McMahon motel. It was great, and the club itself was a good spot for a meal and a drink.
1st time here, chose because I believed it would be a warm place to lunch on a very cold wet day. It was cool inside, everyone had their coates on, not nice. Food was good, no seniors meals. Cpl 1/2 serve options average of $28. Staff were excellent.
Wouldn’t recommend. The food here is average at best. The “flake” was chewy and tasted like packet fish you buy from the supermarket. Out of all the different meals we ordered none of them were good. The portion sizes are very small and the prices are expensive. Won’t be back
As locals to the area we have been here for meals a few times and meals have been reasonable but our lunch the other day was disappointingly poor. Ordered salt and pepper calamari with salad and my husband ordered the seafood platter/mix.honestly it was like frozen rubbish, fried and chucked on the plate! We didn't even finish our meals. We definitely won't be returning. 1 star
Absolutely love this place great friendly staff absolutely delicious meals at a good price
Very good meal. Party of 4, we a ll had something different and we all thought the meal and service was great.
The food is great such great and friendly service.
My grandfather and I love the sticky date pudding.
Ordered whiting in beer batter and lamb roast. Food quality was sub-standard and over priced. Whiting was mush - Lamb roast was flavourless. Vegetables were micro-waved quality. Both tartare and roast gravy were congealed. Should have known when from time of ordering to receiving food took 5 minutes. Will not be returning or recommending venue.
Average meals, over priced wouldn't return. Go to the Wonthaggi Club or Whalebone much better.
Beautiful place! The kids love playing here whilst I and my family enjoy our meals (which are fantastic!) Miss coming here, can't wait for it to open up again:)
My third edit to this review, 1st two were below average and although I received some lash back from staff on following visits only because I spoke openly, it seems that the kitchen may have pulled there heads in over the last year or so, meals and service have improved significantly although prices have increased and they now heavily penny pinch in any area they can. Certainly no reward for loyalty here that’s for sure, something that may haunt them in the future considering the amount of new people moving to Wonthaggi
from Melbourne.
Lots of new wait staff also, friendly, courteous, clean and tidy looking, probably the key to me returning regularly.
Arrived with high hopes after being recommended from a friend. Everything was, to put it bluntly, truly abominable.
The parmas all had a strange, thick batter that was burned on the outside and raw on the inside and tasted of pancakes. The potato mash served was not reminiscent of the tuber we desired, instead was made from instant whip. The gravy was also from processed origins, and arrived burnt.
The creamy seafood sauce served with the steak, wasn't thickened at all and ran like water across the plate. The meat was overcooked and bland.
Overall, extremely overpriced for what is, in essence, cheap, bulk made, microwave food.
Nothing wrong with the beers though.
Nothing special, just a meal, prices similar to pubs, Caesar Salad (egg a bit undercooked) Carbonara wasn't impressed with. Parma was huge n nice, service a bit slow considering it was not that busy.
Sunday Dinner 23rd May 2021.
New to the area, took family out for dinner. I was quietly disappointed with the bistro food and service. Firstly one of my guests ordered a stir-fry and paid extra for cashews as a add-on (listed on menu), meal arrived, No cashews. 2 roast pork meals ordered, the vegetables look like they were from a frozen McCain package floating in water on the plate, while the roast pork was tender it was very bland.
Quiet night in the bistro it would seem with no more than 12 tables occupied, the 3 service staff seem to struggle.
I would recommend using seasonal fresh vegetables and not cooking them to the point of mush.
Overall I'm happy to try this place once more, I hope they lift their game.
Had a chicken Caesar salad today apart from 4 pieces of chicken about 10mm square it in my opinion was the worst one I've ever had, absolutely terrible
Excellent venue and friendly and efficient staff. Clearly great management of this club and new motel is first class accommodation
Very good service, friendly and quick go get the food to the table. The food is a good selection with a blend of typical pub fare and some different items. I had the nachos which were good, probably ideal for sharing as I could only eat half. My husband enjoyed his calamari. My son had the chicken parm, which was rather disappointing. The sauce was too sweet and too much of it which made the parm breading soggy. All in all, not fancy or special but a nice decent place for a relaxed low key dinner.
All I had was the Mexican pizza. But loved it. The place looks amazing. Great feel. Lovely environment. The waitress was so friendly too.
