Wickens At The Royal Mail Hotel

Surprise for us “in the middle of nowhere”. An absolutely gorgeous gourmet restaurant with a corresponding wine list and extremely friendly service staff!

Did the chef's experience. Every dish was unique and delectable in its own way. Some were even whimsical, in quite a lovely way.

You definitely get what you pay for (many many many dishes), and far better value than fine dining options in Melbourne.

The menu changes regularly, so it might not be helpful if I list what was served, plus it would spoil the surprise!

The kitchen runs like a well oiled machine, nobody was rushing, there was a refreshing attention to detail for every dish for every dinner.

We couldn't speak too highly of our recent dinner at Wickens restaurant. The food is simply outstanding. The mixture of fresh high quality ingredients, attention to detail, innovation and creativity provides a unique experience. The service was uniformly professional but friendly with perfect timing a particular feature. The legendary winelist complements the experience.

Great experience at Wickens. From our arrival to the end, we were please with everything. The vue is very nice sitting by the windows. An all open kitchen so we can see everyone working and the Chef is right in front of us. There is a "Chef Table" that we could have access, but we did not know. Should be a nice experience as well. And the food pairing was perfect with Australien taste. Great choice by the sommelier as well. Love the place.

What can I say about this restaurant that hadn’t already been said except to say it was the best dining experience I’ve ever had in my life (and I’ve eaten at many top restaurants). We booked the Chef’s Table and sat in the kitchen watching incredibly talented people pull together incredibly phenomenal dishes. If I could give them 10 stars I would.

Incredible dining experience, definitely the best I’ve had in Victoria. The detail and effort put in by the chefs and waiting staff show in the amazing quality of the food and overall experience. We were served 12 courses over a 3 hour session (well worth the money) and all were amazing encapsulating different flavours from the kitchen garden and local produce, definitely recommend trying the lamb. The wine selections and recommendations were also exceptional. If you’re after a weekend away to experience great food I highly recommend staying at the Royal Mail Hotel and booking a dinner at Wickens.

I know I was suppose to love everything about Wickens.but I can only say I liked very thing about Wickens
Design wise though stunning, I felt it was a dining science lab, very exact, very minimal, very austere, though high end designer. Once dark the view turned into mirrors! Staff were professional, not amazing. Service was confused. Food came 1st before drinks and was meat heavy, with a couple of standouts dishes though a lot not memorable. Bread is stunning.
Yes the wine list is soooooo extensive, but I don’t have hours to read it, maybe a little over the top.

We have dined here twice. Each time the service has been excellent. The sommelier is very approachable and his passion for wine is infectious. The food is well presented and absolutely delicious. Each course is a morsel of locally sourced goodness. I am surprised that Wickens is not in the top 3 restaurants of Victoria. In my opinion, Wickens is better than Vue de Monde. Will definitely be back!

Fantastic food, people, place. If you get the chance the chef's table is an experience not to be missed.

Dined at the Chefs Table and the experience was exceptional. From the moment we walked through the door we were greeted with kindness, patience, extensive knowledge and experience. Every single course was considered and beautifully executed. The French wine pairing was phenomenal and the knowledge of their Sommeliers - fantastic. Hands down one of the best regional dining experiences we've had. We will absolutely return!

Absolutely nothing could be done better - staff, wines, food and atmosphere across everything were just beautiful. Treat yourself and do it!

Such a beautiful restaurant, food truly exquisite, service was just stunning and I loved the sommelier he was so enthusiastic it warmed my heart. The produce was local or home grown which impressed me and I couldn’t fault them on anything, but mostly I feel so welcomed and cared for.
We stayed at the hotel I thoroughly recommend the packages, they are very good value!

Unfortunately I did not get to dine at the Wickens as we had to cancel our booking on the day. However, the manager was very understanding and chose not to charge us for the last minute cancellation. I hope to dine here some time in the near future and I appreciate very much the understanding.

Exceptionnel et magnifique!

If you're looking for a true experience to haute-cuisine in Victoria, Australia. This restaurant must be on your list.

Perfect ambience, in all facets. Highly recommend the French wine paring. Their sommelier Matt is second-to-none in his wine knowledge, really just adds to the overall experience. All staff from beginning to end were flawless.

1st night opening after pandemic, canapes, & amuse bouche followed by wonderful 4 course dinner, finished with petit fours of jelly sweets and chocolates, great selection of wines by the glass, or bottle, or choose matched wines with each course. An experience highly recommended

Outstanding! The restaurant design, the view, the service and the food are all incredible. It’s so amazing that such a high quality venue exists in such a remote, but fantastic, location.

I can only fault this restaurant on two things

1) The excessive use of the phrase 'how is everything? ' It grows tiresome when you have been at the restaurant for more than two hours

2) Waited too long between each course. I am so glad I ate a late lunch otherwise I would have been starving. I am not a drinker so it does not help with the waiting on each course.

However, the meals were fantastic! The staff were warm and welcoming! Great customer service.

Food was generally very good but the service made this pseudo-fine dining. Asked twice at booking and once upon arrival about dietaries and they still managed to bring us something we had asked to be excluded on the first plate. Far too long between courses, multiple members of staff asking us how each dish was, very loud waiter, cutlery not polished… front of house are letting the kitchen down.
