Over many years, Waya has never disappointed. Delicious Japanese food, great booth seating for groups, and nice service. The absolute stand out recently was the Waya Maki sushi roll (delicious sauce, tobiko on top, generous amounts of fish, cucumber, avocado). They don't skimp on the wasabi either.

Sashimi was very fresh for this price point and the Bento box are also quite value for their portions.

Sadly the Sashimi don and the Ramen were pretty average. Was expecting the don to be slightly bigger portions.

The place was also well decked out with Japanese items all around, pretty nice.

Overall, highly recommend the Sashimi platter.

Very enjoyable meal. Had the Yakitori Don. Chicken skewers were freshly cooked, were not dry. Could have had more rice. Looked small from the outside, had two levels inside. Lots of booth seating. Staff were very friendly.

Nice clean restaurant with a nice ambience. However, the seatings are a little cramped.

We ordered the mixed tempura, salmon mix and sashimi don.

The prices are quite high, and the serving size is on the small side. The quality of the food was low to average. The tempura in general had a thick batter. The prawn tempura was soggy (forgot to take a photo). But the vegetable tempura was at least crispy. The sashimi and nigiri was not be very fresh, and had a bit of a fishy aftertaste.

We used to come here often for Japanese food. However, it seems like the quality of the food have declined over time. I would recommend trying out other Japanese restaurants in the area.

This Japanese restaurant offer a wide variety of food. We definitely enjoy their bento and rice dishes. The price for individual dishes are reasonable and portion are good. However, I personally think the hot pot we ordered is a bit overprice with just 4-5 slices of beef and some vegetables. We ordered extra udon to go with the hot pot.

Our go to for tasty Japanese. Do yourself a favour and order the Ox Tongue. Don't be turned off by the fact that it's ox tongue. Once you try it you will continually order it.

The food was good as we ordered most of the food with chicken, spices were low and was not spicy even though we ordered spicy chicken dumplings. The ambience was great as we were a group of people we got a cozy place to sit and enjoy our dinner.

I work locally, and frequently come for lunch and take away when I haven’t brought my own lunch. Staff are always so friendly, service is pretty quick, food is delicious, and prices aren’t too bad.

I came for dinner last Sunday evening with a friend. We called to book a table that same week and they were quick to answer the phone and book us a table - no issues.

We were easily able to order through their QR code and pay at the front at the end of the night. Service was relatively quick - we’d put an order in for food, and I’d say not even 30 minutes later it would appear on our table. We ordered salmon sushi, a sashimi plate, tofu, tempura vegetables, beef skewers, and pork dumplings. Pictured is everything mentioned minus the tempura vegetables (which arrived after we took this image).

Staff were really friendly - I ordered a lemon honey tea and downed it pretty quickly. When staff came to deliver food I asked if they could add more hot water to the cup and they did so with no issues nor extra charge.

Staff are always so friendly and never fail to smile when you’re speaking with them. This has been consistent from my lunches to this recent dinner.

Definitely a space I’ll continue to go to, and book out for dinners with friends.

A wide variety of side and mains dishes to choose from. Food quality is just okay (good enough when you're hungry). I do quite enjoy eating their renkon chips though.

When it gets busy, the staff often try to rush you off, but I guess I can understand why. If not, their service is usually not bad.

Our family just had lunch today. Never come back again. The worst Japanese restaurant I have ever been to. Food was terrible.

I’ve been to this Japanese restaurant in the afternoon for late lunch and enjoyed my meal. Beautiful Saki in cold/warm jugs. Also, meal was cooked perfectly (I was so hungry). Not good for a date but good if you just feel hungry.

Thanks

Overall an unsatisfactory experience from food to service. Overpriced for what they serve and not fresh at all. A rushed and ruined evening for us. Will not be going back there.

This is a great place for families. Whenever we ask the kids where they want to go out to eat, this is what they choose. Its great because the service is very quick (no kids whinging about when is the food going to come) also the quality and ingredients used are very fresh and well prepared. Just what you want from great Japanese food.

Also a good choice to expand the palate of picky eaters. There are fresh prepared versions of potato cakes and calamari rings and noodles that even fussy eaters will enjoy.

Highly recommend trying the Waya Maki (ask for they spicy mayo on the side if you want to control the spice but definately give it a try). Also the Katsu don or the hot pot are great warming comfort dishes on cool days.

Don't be scared off if you see a queue outside the store. They are popular but the turnaround is quite quick so seats open up fairly quickly. Just ask the friendly guy or girl at the door how long the wait will be. We've never had to wait more than 10 mins even if there were people ahead of us.

Waya is a staple whenever we want simple Japanese food. Weve been to a lot of amazing Japanese restaurants in Melbourne and Waya stands as one of the best places for Takoyaki.

Chicken teriyaki Bento was a letdown. Teriyaki sauce is nice but chicken is a bit dry. The chicken skewer that comes with the bento is very chewy and dry. Nothing like the picture. Tasted like yesterday's leftover. Rice is sticky, overcooked, or cooked with too much water. It's not worth $16 for a box.

Your local Japanese restaurant serving all the classics but a little bit better.

They have a wide variety at a reasonable price. It seems the best things to get here are the ramen, nigiri and sushi rolls. The tempura prawn roll was particularly good and the oyakodon was also flavourful. The chicken was tender, the egg still a little runny without being tough. The ox tongue was one of the best I've had.

However the grilled salmon bento, chahan and wings yakitori were a disappointment. Chahan was super basic fried rice, probably more suitable as a side dish. The grilled salmon was dry and the Bento Box was small without alot of good sides for selection.

My family and I had a hearty meal today at Waya Japanese restaurant in Glen Waverley. All dishes were equally good and the serving staff were prompt, attentive and professional.

The restaurant has space outside as well as inside and on the first floor.

We ordered smoked salmon sushi, panko prawns, tempura prawns, chicken curry Don, Tofu curry, Agadeshi tofu, karage chicken Udon, okinomiyaki, seaweed salad and drinks, and everything was delicious.

Parking is available at a 1-minute walking distance.

Overall experience dining in was very satisfying! Foods are excellent and customer service is very exceptional.

I like the way they serve the sukiyaki, and how the waitress helps to prepare food at your table. The portion is enough for 2 people or more to share and you can add some more vegetables or meat or noodles.
The soup is not very strong but for me, it’s good enough. And salmon rolls is also tasty.

Besides, there are photos of foods in the menu, which is very helpful for new customers to order.

My absolute favourite Japanese restaurant in the south east suburbs! The Aburi Tuna Maki roll and Salmon Mentai roll is amazing! The store is very nice inside, with an additional upstairs area for dining. The servers are extremely friendly and helpful. Food comes out fresh and in a reasonable amount of time even when the store is busy. Take away is also very easy to organise over the phone. Pick up time is usually 10-20 minutes and the food is laid out with good presentation and safely in the take away containers. Very reasonably priced for the quality of food.

Got ripped off ordering through the on-line portal which is handled by a 3rd party site, paid 20% more and the restaurant did not want to do anything about it.
