This restaurant in Melbourne serves some of the finest Sri Lankan cuisine. The food is incredibly tasty and diverse, with generous portions. The menu offers a wide range of options.

Heard a lot of good things about their food but it was okay. Not something to die for. Gravy for the egg and chicken roti was tasteless. It actually ruined the taste of the roti itself not compliment it. Chicken roti was fine. Also got a Lamp rice. It was ok, rice was almost like plain rice, had no flavour. Specially no flavour for a Lamp rice. There was a green chillie dip with White baits, but I don't know why would anyone need that as a sauce or a dip as it was just crushed chillies with no seasoning. I think this place is simply overrated for their food. But the service however was really great, very friendly staff.

Fantastic food. Hoppers was the best. Friendly staff.
Clean and cosy place. Food are so srilankan and tasty.
Entre calamari and fish fried are out of this world.

Lovely gem tucked away in a suburban shopping strip.
You can smell the flavours a soon as you walk in.
Great food, full of flavour and mild/ moderate spices. Good portions.
Friendly staff and easy service times.

This restaurant is located on the street with parking right in front. There is plenty of seating inside, with small seating outside. At 2: 30pm on Wednesday, there were only a few customers in the store so no waiting time.

Walking in, we were greeted by a male worker who wasn’t very welcoming, but later was friendly. We were given cold water instantly without asking which was good.
We were served by a young waiter who was very friendly and helpful that took
The ginger tea and falooda were also served quickly and had great flavours that weren’t overpowering.
She quickly served hot fish cutlets which were filled with spices, with a mint dipping sauce on a bed of raw leeks and carrots.
We ordered tempered eggplant (a type of pickle), Sauteed Cuttlefish, tempered rice, and Dahl lentil curry. All dishes were full of flavour, served quickly and delicious.

We ordered rice for left overs for takeaway as we definitely did not want to waste the remaining food.

There is extremely clean and nice bathrooms, a bar area, and even an outside dining table. There is plenty of cricket photos, accessories and other special features that make the store unique.
A sink is also available to wash hands, which is very useful.

The meals were a bit pricy, however, overall it was a great experience and will be back!

My first time here and the staff were very friendly. We ordered cocktails to begin with, which were refreshing!

Then ordered Patties, Hoppers, Beef curry & Lunu miris - the food was delicious, really enjoyed the ambience and feel of the place. I'll definitely be back.

The coconut shrimp curry with hoppers was really good. The egg hopper was not cooked right, the hopper was a little under and the egg was a little over. Will definitely come back to try more seafood.

Went to Upali’s Saturday for belated Father’s Day dinner. The food was very tasty and kept informed how long the hoppers would be. We all had a great night and would definitely go back.

We are somewhat regular customers to upalis.when we went for dine in today, decided to have a lunch set menu. There were good and bad things.
Good
Food was good.tasty.

Bad
Ordered two ginger tea. Amongst two tea pots there was one tea pot which had something sticky (white) on spout. When we told this to the matured guy at the cashier, he tried to wipe it off with his bare hand and tried to give it back to us telling its sugar. Moreover he told there are no more ginger tea in the restaurant which is surprising. He took it off from the table and didn't add it to the bill. It's good and sorted.but there is something wrong with his attitude and no apology was there. Took away the tea and we had to share one tea between us. Simply we could ask another one, but we were really disappointed with their hygienic practices.

Rice portion was very small.not more than three to four bites.had to order an extra portion. It will be fine but the rice served was very dry and hard to chew. It is clear that the rice is from the bottom of the storing tray. It is very bad to serve very dry rice for your customers for that kind of price. Didn't bother to tell this bcs, we already had a bad experience few minutes ago.
This could be the final day coming to upalis.

The Lampraise I had today was disgusting and awful. My $21 were wasted. Not worth one tenth of that price.

I was pleasantly surprised by my visit today at Upali’s! The ambience was perfect, the food was delectable and the service prompt (thank you Lara for being an absolutely attentive angel). But can I just say, THE KOTTHU WOW. Hands down the best kotthu I have had outside of Sri Lanka. We had the devilled chicken kotthu and my goodness it was a perfect harmony of sweet, spicy and moist. Hat off to the chef! You have delighted our evening.
We will certainly be back on our next trip to Melbourne!

I am very disappointed to say this but the Food was not tasty as expected, egg omelette curry was too salty and seafood koththu which I ordered was good but very dry. I had the worst lamp rice ever in Australia.it was not up to the expectation.

Very average food and weird customer service.
Our lamb curry was extremely dry and the meat lacked flavour. Dessert (chocolate biscuit pudding) was really bad, just cheap supermarket biscuits with a bit of ice cream.

Overall food was bland, customer service bizarre. On our way out, nobody looked at us or thanked us.

Wonderful restaurant with variety of options to chose from. A truly authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. My favourite dish is the goat and chicken sizzler. The vegetarian options are very limited and my wife found it difficult. The string hoppers and puttu are not always available which makes it even more difficult.

Its actually 4.5 stars. Service was good. Food came out quickly. However was missing bit of flavour. Food was good and good value for money but I felt missing some flavour. But it can be my personal experience. Would like to visit again.

Such a great Sri Lankan restaurant. Apparently they all authentic, according to my host who bought me dinner. I especially love the dry pork curry. I got their business card and will definitely go back there.

Delicious Sri Lankan food at a reasonable price. Went for Saturday lunch and ordered two set menus (one chicken, one veg) & a chicken cheese rotti with gravy. The set menus were delicious.
Have had dined at the restaurant many times before and they never disappoint. Ambiance is good with lots of cricket memorabilia.
Only negative today was that we went to the cashier for payment and the owner lady was there but on a call and didn’t even acknowledge us. Didn’t even look at us or nod. We waited for good few minutes before a wait staff saw us and came over to issue the bill. I’d have given a 5 if not for this disappointing end.

Gr8 venue for our meeting, lovely meal enjoyed by those who could stay. Shame about the unsociable language from the 'entitled' group on our arrival, hopefully won't come across them again

Terrible customer service

Really disappointed the way you all treated to the customer. I have never ever met people like this.
We made a reservation (02.01.2022) @7.30 and delayed for 15 mntz. After we arrived, the guy who is in front really dint care and just told us the table was given for some one and ask for wait to get a table untill they leave. We planed the day to have a dinner with friends in new year day and this people simply ruined it. Even they dont know how to talk to a customer and they even dont know talk politely. And they didn't made a call about this canserlation.
Do not do to the people who walk to you all because everyone got valid and limited time.

Thanks
