Uosan Japanese Restaurant reviews
21 It's hard to top this place across the board.
Total professionals, no matter how busy they get.
Nice ambience but a little too loud, I felt like I had to scream to be heard by my friend sitting a cross from me.
Service was quick.
Food was overall fairly good. We ordered the edamame, gyoza, nasu dengaku and veg California rolls and they were all quite tasty. Unfortunately the vegetarian udon stirfry was a let down. Very bland and lacking flavor. Overall I would go back for the starters.
Tonight I had the privilege to eat at the Uosan restaurant. The staff are friendly and attentive. Had a 7.30pm restaurant and was out by 9pm. The food was delicious
Had takeaway for a family dinner tonight. We have a wide variety of tastes and dietary restrictions in our family so we are not easy to cater for, however we all absolutely loved Uosan! In particular the sashimi, calamari, and katsu don were all excellent, but the stand out for me was the miso black cod which was better than Nobu! Will definitely be dining in next time to enjoy the full atmosphere.
Excellent food! And BYO! They do exist and make a mid week meal so enjoyable and palatable in todays world! And the food- well! Delicious. So fresh, great variety and the best fried rice I’ve had.
Good food and the service is attentive but when full, it's very noisy, so not ideal for a quiet tete-a-tete. It's obviously very popular, so booking on Friday and Saturday is recommended.
Having supported this couple when they were in Elsternwick I have to say that this is by far the closest I have come in Australia to the food in Japan and having been there 6 times this is the only Japanese restaurant I would head to after returning just 2 weeks ago. Some reviews complain about the price but I don't see any issue with the pricing, if you want classic Japanese food, cooked or presented to perfection this is the place, it is not a cheap eats option, staff are unbelievable and the atmosphere is spot on.
Great food, fresh fish and well priced.
Recommend sitting outside if the weather allows.
This restaurant came really close to five stars. First and most importantly, all the food was delicious. I had salmon and avocado salad for appetiser and Black Cod Misoyaki for mains. The salad was huge and filling, the cod was delicate and devine but tiny. The two together with some Junmai sake made for a superb meal. The service was a bit sloppy. I think they were just understaffed so I don’t blame the staff themselves. They were friendly and doing their best. All up the food was fantastic but the servers were a bit small given the description “these are usually shared plates” from our waiter.
Must-try Japanese Restaurant in Melbourne!
This modern Japanese spot has the best wagyu steak I’ve ever tried, with an incredibly tender cut of M8+ wagyu served with yakiniku & ponzy sauces. Their unagi kabayaki (whole grilled eel) is another must-try special, with a generous portion size and a flavourful, sweet and smoky glaze. We also tried their mixed sashimi platter and their aburi salmon & lobster roll, both of which had fresh-tasting seafood.
The ambience of the restaurant is classy yet busy, so I’d recommend booking in advance to secure your spot. Overall, I’d highly recommend this spot for a family dinner, or even a special occasion!

We had the beef tataki, sashimi platter, calamari and unagi don, finishing with a sesame ice cream. Service was quick, food was delicious! Standouts were the sashimi and unagi don. While the portions of the calamari could be bigger for the price, the flavour was on point.
In terms of ambience, I think they did a really good job of it. Their lighting was also very thoughtful, such that your pictures will effortlessly look good.
All in all great night. Party of 3, spent about 40 per pax.
Solid and authentic Japanese in downtown Malvern you will need to visit. We love their deluxe sashim/sushi platter, unagi ricebowl, katsu and dessert platter. Friendly hospitality, quick and delicious menu. Happy diner here
The quality of this neighbourhood restaurant was amazing! Everything was fresh and their dishes were a mix of traditional and modern. We enjoyed the sashimi and the meat dishes!
An excellent Japanese restaurant. Invoice came to $190 for three including drinks. The Sushi, Nigiri & Sashimi are the highlight here - one could easily split a large or deluxe platter and be done with it. The Kara-age was hot and fresh and the duck was particularly delicious. The only criticism is that despite the menu advertising the smaller dishes as ‘entrees’, the dishes tend to come out in whichever order the chefs happens to finish them in. Despite this, would still highly recommend and definitely worth a trek for one or two suburbs for a visit.
This was our first visit to Uosan restaurant. Booking has been made for 4 people. Restaurant has inside and outside sitting.
It's decorated with modern touch.
When we arrived about 7 pm it was aready nearly full.
As we decided to share all meals we have ordered various entries, such as prawn tempura gyozas, edamame, kingfish carpaccio, tuna carrpaccio, nasu dengaku. Main meals we have ordeted have been spicy calamari, whole eel kabayak, chicken tonkatsu, salmon saikyoyaki anddessert plater and sesame cream daifuku.
We have quite enjoyed ambient and foods.
But there is definitely room for improving.
Service could be improved. Topping up water and not forget eggplant ordered for instance. Other things are we were missing wasabi and ginger as well as soy sauce. None has been complimenting our meals.
Desert was so small and price was higher then in other similar Japanese restaurants.
Still, I would probably go back again.
Great Ambience, classy fit-out and authentic Japanese food. The coolest Japanese restaurant in Malvern! A must-go if you are nearby.
Nice atmosphere. Although busy, and the tables quite cosily situated, it's not a noisy place and you don't hear the other diners.
The food is excellent. Mixed sashimi platter was well proportioned. I definitely recommend the spicy tuna rolls!
We had a lovely experience for our first visit here. Friendly staff and good service. We chose a number of entrees and a main. The pace of serving our dishes was well timed and the food was fresh and delicious.
We will definitely return soon.
The best Japanese restaurant in the area. Consistently great food, and tonight when I asked them to box up the left over sushi they put a fresh packet of soy sauce in the container which is amazing service. Thank you.
Our favorite local Japanese restaurant. Their sushi is to die for. Staff have always been lovely.
