Ukiyo Melbourne

Me and my group had an amazing time doing Part 1 of "The Crumbling Prince" and will no doubt be back to do the second. The staff were great hosts and the venue was clearly well looked after.

Ukiyo was out first ever escape room adventure. And it set the bar incredibly high! From the get go the experience is beautifully curated. We even got a little snack.
The rules and expectations are laid out clearly and all our questions were answered thoughtful and there was no pressure to get a move on.

This is not your typical escape room style adventure. It is more of a role play, mystery game! Your choices and decisions have consequences. Your friendships will be challenged. And you will have a bloody good time!

I had an incredible experience at the Ukiyo! We play the crumbling prince and the puzzles were challenging yet engaging, and the attention to detail in the room design was truly impressive! Beth was super helpful in guiding us to try the right room for our group. Whereas Dean was an excellent storyteller and very friendly, offering just the right amount of “hints” to keep the game exciting. It's a must-try for anyone looking for a different experience to the traditional escape room. I can't wait to go back for another round (Chapter 2 and hopefully 3!) of mind-bending fun!

Absolutely incredible, clearly designed and run with a great deal of passion. I found Ukiyo online while traveling in Melbourne and reached out about setting up a solo session. Not only did the staff go out of their way to accommodate me, but running the Crumbling Prince alone ended up being one of the most fun and unique experiences I had in Melbourne. Highly recommend Ukiyo to anyone, even those not keen on or experienced with escape room-type activities. Special thanks to Beth for setting up my session, and David for being such a great host!

My partner and I did the crumbling prince, and both of the deep space rooms. Both were great, though different experiences. The crumbling prince is definitely laid back, and more of a story-driven experience than an escape room. Deep space was more escape room meets story in my opinion. If you prefer the typical escape room experience, deep space is the choice, and it was great. Returning for a second time is worth it as well. If you want a laid-back experience with some puzzle solving, go for the crumbling prince. Either way, you'll have a good time.

Unfortunately a little rundown and doesn't seem to have quite recovered from the pandemic. You can really see how AMAZING this would have been in its hay day when everything could be interacted with as intended instead of modified to adhere to covid recommendations.

Much of the engineering in and of the set design was partway into disrepair. It gave it an eerie feel, like those videos that show how Disneyland animatronics looked & operated originally compared to now.

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing an immersive escape room, and I must say that it was an absolutely amazing experience! From the moment I walked in, the staff were exceptional nice and welcoming, making me feel comfortable and excited to start my adventure.

The room itself was beautifully decorated, with intricate attention to detail that truly made me feel like I had been transported to another world. The smell of the room was pleasant, and the sound of the real-life water stream and waterfall only added to the immersive atmosphere.

But what truly blew me away were the special effects and immersive narrative of the experience. I felt completely engrossed in the story, and the puzzles and challenges were challenging enough to keep me engaged, but not so difficult that I felt discouraged.

Overall, I would highly recommend this escape room to anyone looking for a fun and exciting adventure. The staff were exceptional, the decor and real-life elements were impressive, and the special effects and immersive narrative truly made for an unforgettable experience.

Best escape room we have done. Great story line, well designed game. Going to complete all 3 games they have. We completes Deep Space: Divinity. So excited to complete the others.

Ukiyo is a one of a kind storytelling experience. Come in expecting escape room and be rewarded with a whole world of interesting, diverse, and imaginative characters.

We played the Crumbling Prince (parts one and two) and loved it! I won't comment on story for fear of spoiling it, but the interactions with the world and prince himself were so fun. The room and pregame experience are immersive and have you feeling the electric atmosphere that is so hard to nail in immersive experiences.

An expensive event, but fully worth the value for money. I don't think any other escape room comes close to the poise and emotional impact of Ukiyo.

After playing part 1 of both Deep Space and The Crumbling Prince, I’ll definitely be back for more!
The rooms themselves are beautifully crafted and super immersive, the stories that unfold around you as you solve puzzles are very engaging leaving you wanting more, and it’s super cool being able to naturally converse with characters in these universes as you go along. Did I mention that their Deep Space adventure has a talking dog? A talking. Dog. Need I say any more?

The team at Ukiyo are absolutely amazing. I highly recommend you check out what they have to offer - you will not regret it!

As one of the highest reviewed Escape Rooms in Melbourne, our expectations were high enough to pay for also the most expensive escape room we have ever done. We did the Deep Space room. I will start with the positives. Our host was fine, there was nothing wrong with that. The technology in the room was also one of the best I have encountered in an Escape Room but that is all for the positives.

I have completed dozens of Escape Rooms and this was one of the worst. I have never done an Escape Room with less puzzles and never have we been required to sing before as a requirement for one of the childish puzzles. Our radio did not even work because the batteries ran out. When we finished the room, I was left stunned by how underwhelming it was and it felt awful to have spent so much money for the experience which was for a special occasion.

I do not advise bringing a full group of 6, it only makes it more expensive overall and with how few puzzles there are, it only meant there was that much less to do per person. Sadly it was just overall so disappointing and there are so many better Escape Rooms elsewhere for much cheaper.

The most amazing, immersive experience. My family completed Crumbling Prince Chapter 1 and we will definitely return for more. This had a very ethereal, whimsical atmosphere.
The staff really put effort into putting you into the story, and I was so swept away by the story I barely realised the hour passing. Absolutely fantastic work.

So far we have done Deep Space parts 1 and 2, and The Crumbling Prince part 1. These have been the best escape room experiences we have done anywhere. The rooms are wonderfully designed, the experience is unique and interesting, and the staff are amazing.

In addition to the experience on the day the staff have also had amazing customer service. We had to reschedual twice because of sickness and it was quick and easy. During the COVID lockdowns we actually lost our voucher code for booking our next session, but since we knew the card it was booked on the staff managed to dig it up for us.

10/10 best escape rooms in Melbourne.

Have done episode 1 of both deep space and the crumbling prince. Deep space is definitely more exciting.

Atmosphere and production quality of both are very high; the rooms are very immersive. Enjoyable if you’re into role play.

The AI component is inevitably clumsy and the puzzles are not that interesting. The story and dialogue attempt to be philosophical but mostly fall flat.

A fun and unique experience overall but you have to go in with an open mind. If you’re looking for a classic escape room experience with challenging puzzles, this is not for you.

Both experiences at Ukiyo are amazing! I initially went in keen to escape another escape room but these were unlike any I've done. The rooms at Ukiyo absolutely nail story, atmosphere, immersion and just overall quality. They're really not escape rooms, more like amazing storytelling experiences!

The staff have also all been amazing on my trips to Ukiyo! Great hosts and they were always happy to have a chat about our choices in the experiences afterwards!

Can't wait to see what potential new rooms come up in the future!

Fantastic experience. We selected the Crumbling Prince part 1 - and are looking forward to the second part. They were very flexible when we needed to change the number of players. Would highly recommend.
