Travellers Autobarn Melbourne

I hired a car from Sydney to Melbourne (as a solo 23 year old female) and had a great time. Customer service was great both ends. In Sydney they allowed me to drive around a bit with them first to get used to it as I’d not driven in Australia before. They even greeted me with a coconut to drink. And then in Melbourne they ensured I could get an Uber ok to get myself into town. They provided a gas stove and all cooking/eating appliances as well as a tent, camping chairs, a table etc.basically everything you could need apart from a mattress which I had to get myself. I found sleeping in the back of the car very easy and always found nice car parks on park4night to park in. I felt extremely safe and comfortable with the car. Was perfect for me and honestly not that much more expensive than staying in hostels and paying for transport. 10/10 reccomend

Friendly staff, I dropped off my van in Melbourne agency, it was quick and the location is not far from the airport. More difficult for public transport. The experience with Travellers Autobarn was great, vehicles are well maintained!

Travelled in the van for 4 weeks down the east coast. Really good value for money and had no issues at all. When we handed it back in was very straight forward - Andrew was very helpful with any questions we had and we were in and out within 5 minutes. Would definitely recommend

We just picked up our campervan and ir was everything we expected and even more. Felix helped us and was very friendly and helpful, an amazing guy! We had the best start of our roadtrip here!

Absolutely incredible experience over a 7 week trip from Cairns to Melbourne. Van, TA and service were all utterly outstanding. Could not recommend TA enough to anyone who wants the trip of a lifetime! Thank you so much.

My vehicle broke down on Friday afternoon. Until 17: 00 pm I was helped nicely, but after that no one was available anymore. Quite annoying if everything is not arranged yet and it is night time.

Got replacement transport for the weekend, so that was nice.

Had to come back several times the following week to exchange the vehicles, but each time he was not ready. Tried to call (Tom) but no answer. Costs a lot of gas money for nothing. Also, the man from the head office was suddenly unreachable and just left me in the lurch. Headquarters should have approved the repair long ago, but they forgot. As a result, we had to wait seven days instead of three.

Emma, ​​Henry and Deniz from the Melbourne department finally solved it fantastically. They were super helpful and made our days of waiting better. They deserve a big compliment!

Had a great trip from cairns to melbourne with my girlfriend, deniz and henry made our drop off a pleasure last week and let me charge my camera battery. Would recommend highly!

Had a wonderful trip in our chubby from Cairns to Melbourne, was greeted by happy and friendly staff (Denis and Henery) who made sure our van and holiday was as anjoyabke as can be! Helped us out fining public transport and even drove us to the closest Tramstop! Lovely people, would reccomend and would rent again!

I have mixed feelings about TA. We are both experience travelers and had to hire a vehicle due to our own setups being in different states and the logistics of driving to where we wanted to explore. We enjoyed our trip very much but unfortunately the van was a let down.

For a budget service the van did the job and I understand you get what you pay for. The biggest issue was that the stove absolutely did not work and the 2 gas canisters provided that we were assured would last for 2 weeks lasted for about 4 days. It was impossible to cook dinner or even boil water.

The stereo did not work and the water tap worked poorly. The reversing camera did not work. The van drank petrol constantly. No fridge is a big drawback. The threat of having a $3000 bond taken for any accident, regardless of fault, takes away some of the fun of an adventure. The conversion is cheaply done and the van is uninsulated and therefore very cold.

I would recommend camping anywhere with a camp kitchen or significant facilities as the van will not be self sufficient. Despite this, we understand the concept of a budget service, and while it was cheap and cheerful our girl Sheryl did the job. Be prepared for some tough moments and frustration - if you want luxury go elsewhere - but if you want a cheap adventure TA will do.

The car was cool, but there were three major disappointments.
1. At pickup, we learned about the insurance policy: 3000 dollar charge for any incident, no matter of it was a tiny scratch, or if it was caused by someone else. Only way around this is to buy the over-priced insurance package, which blew our budget.
2. We had a family emergency and had to return the car two weeks early, but autobarn did not grant a refund. (All other venues, hotels, airplane, ect.did refund us).
3. Even though we downloaded the linkt- toll app and paid all tolls online, autobarn charged an additional 75 dollar "administration fee". Ridiculous.
Wouldn't recommend.
