Arty was absolutely incredible!
He caught our vibe straight away and knew we just wanted to have a good laugh while learning to surf. He taught us on the go which was both absolutely hilarious and super effective for us! Will definitely be back!

Torquay Surf Academy were next level. The were very accommodating and worked with where we were at. Not only did they show us how to improve on technique they also taught us how to read our surrounds. Very impressive.

We had a multi private lesson with Kevin - his instructions were so clear and he showed us the technique step by step. He was patient and gave great feedback so we were standing up in no time! Fantastic teacher! The team at the shop were also really helpful. Look no further for a surf lesson!

Had 2 private lessons with Kevin. The man is a seriously clever teacher. The sheer amount of detail in his advice could fill a book. Took my surfing further than any other teacher I've had prior. Will absolutely come back for more when I can!

First time surfing the famous Australian waves. It was tons of fun. Small group lesson comes with wetsuit, boots and surfboard, really all you need to have run right away in the water. Coach Brad and Gally are very friendly and encoraging. I only wish I could master my listening skill for Australian accent to get the most out of it!

This shop has a great selection of boards for rent. We rented 2 boards here while on vacation and were very happy with this place. Galley was awesome and shared very helpful information with us. I would highly recommend this shop and we will definitely rent from there again next time we return.

We had an absolutely amazing time having a private lesson at Torquay Surf Academy. Curly Kev was a superb teacher especially considering what he had to work with.
A few simple tips and unbelievably Kev got us both standing up on an actual surfboard, which was the dream. So a massive thank you from us for your patience and persistence we had such a fun morning that we definitely won’t be forgetting.

I’ve been coming to Torquay Surf Academy for the past 4 months and have had an absolute blast! Brad and the entire team down there are friendly, helpful and full of information all things surfing! If you’re down in Torquay I highly recommend you visit and get surfing ‍️

I borrowed a board and wetsuit from here. The owner Mark was really helpful and gave me advice about what kind of board would be good for a beginner. They have changerooms and a shower. Really good vibe and reasonably priced.

What a wicked experience 10/10. We did private sessions with Kev over 2 days and it was so much fun We learnt heaps about reading the water, wind and dodging the rocks as my daughter had recently stubbed her toe and ripped the nail off the night before our session anyways Kev was super helpful, knowledgeable and friendly - thanks so much!

I've had private lesson with Kevin over the school holidays and it has been really awesome. Kev was able to move me from one level to the next, and answered any question that I threw at him. He boosted my confidence and enjoyment immensely. Also, any of my dealings with the other guys at the shop (Brad and Galley) have been really positive. Can't recommend enough.

Great surfing class! Staff and instructors were all very friendly and encouraged everyone to have lots of fun! Beach was (as expected), quite busy, but the surf academy had a sectioned-area for the class which made it a lot easier. A great session to get back into surfing and would highly recommend to others.

Amazing staff, they care about teaching.
We started in the training beach. The trainer start by explaining the basic technique of surfing. I went in a random group. The trainer did his best to help everyone in the group which was nice of him. Even after the training he still give us tips and advice.
We hardly recommend it and is not expensive.
Over all I will go again

The weekend before AusDay my wife and I took a leeson with these guys. The wetsuits and board were in reasonable condition considering the're used buy beginners.
The instructions were simple and we were given space to give it a go. Direction was offered if required and the instructors were very approachable and seemed genuinely invested in helping you get past those first few milestones. At no point did I feel unsafe.

Later I hired a board and wetsuit for a couple of hours and the priced was fair. I picked out the same gear as in the lesson, but they had a huge stock to choose from.

Downsides:
Some visual markers on the beginner board wouls have been a great help. Some center lines and hand position marker would have been nice.

We were setup next to the lifeguards on the beach (obviously for safety). But this meant we kept drifting into the swimmering only zone. With it being a busy day, when I did finally get to my feet I'd have to terminate as I'd be heading towards someone.

All in all money well spent, and I think we'll be back soon

The board itself wasn’t bad but even when I was unable to finish my time they stayed strict putting them before the customer. Not great service, for a surf shop just relax a little, no need to be so tight.

What an experience!
A practical and hands on approach and a motivating team of coaches. It took me a couple of times to find my balance, but with some good tips I was surfing.

Really helpful and friendly staff here. Helped me out and gave advice on multiple occasions. Good selection of gear to buy or rent. Thanks a lot folks, looking forward to visiting again soon.
