6What is it with the petrol stations in Castlemaine? I live nearby but even I can see all 3 look as if they were last renovated in 1963 and are being run into the ground both inside and out.
When purchasing petrol at this location the attendant charged substantially more than the price on the bowser. When I queried the discrepancy the attendant claimed it was a 'surcharge' for using a Fleet Card, however the receipt showed more litres of petrol than what the bowser indicated. $13 is a substantial increase in the price and doesn't reflect a 4% surcharge claimed by the attendant. Be sure to check the amount you are being charged if using a Fleet Card!
Not sure why fuel in Castlemaine is so much more expensive than Melbourne or Bengido. Today you can get Diesel for 113.9 or 114.9 in Melbourne but at this station Diesel is 123.7. Around 10 cents difference is pretty typical. I thought it was to do with it being a country town (cost of transporting the fuel to the country or something) but out on the highway to Bendigo and in Bendigo you can get Diesel much cheaper as well. I tried to discuss this with the owner of this station, but her response was a flat denial of any differences between the price at her pump and the price in Melbourne. The prices differences are viewable on petrolspy.com.au and I have photos of today's price at a pump in Melbourne. Best light I can put on this is that she is setting her price in line with the more expensive fuel prices in Melbourne. I don't think any of the stations in Castlemaine were in a hurry to pass on the drop in global fuel prices but when they did pass them on the drop didn't really reflect the size of the drop in wholesale prices. Hard to raise these issues in a small town and my questions did not go down well at all. Needless to say I won't be going back and will get my fuel out of Castlemaine.
One of gghe few service stations that still give any service st all! They will pump the petrol for you & work quickly & efficiently!
