Tides of Rhyll reviews
62The wait is ridiculous. A commercial kitchen taking 45mins to grill a fish. Seriously? Not worth the wait
Oh my gosh! Where do I start? We found out about this golden gem from a Cowes local, who advised us to get ourselves to Rhyll for beautiful fish and chips. That was four years ago, and the fish and chips are just out of this world! Golden and crispy, melt in your mouth batter, fresh flake that is white and soft, thick crispy potato cakes and delicious salads - it’s heaven!
The best fish n chips that I have ever tasted!
We returned last Friday and it’s been a long four years away but we have not forgotten the amazing food served here and the friendly staff.
Tides of Rhyll did not disappoint, in fact it was even better than we remembered!
Every time we order fish and chips in Melbourne, we rate it against what we have eaten at Tides of Rhyll. Our local fish n chips in Melbourne scores a 4/10. Tides of Rhyll are easily 15/10.
Yes they are brilliant - thank you for your perfect fish and chips and we will come back whenever we are in the area!
We just wish that we lived a little closer so that you were our local
Very nice decor inside, and the music that accompanies your meal creates a lovely ambience, which goes well with the fish and chips theme. The restaurant is also located right next to the sea, which allows for a nice walk after the meal.
We ordered the whiting and granadier fish, with chips, scallops and grilled tiger prawns, which very very fresh and tasty. All in all, a delicious meal.
I always go to this place and bring friends and family everytime we go to Philip Island.really have one of the best fish and chips nearby Philip Island although I hope they are consistent with what they serve.some days they serve better fresh soft flake fish other times taste not as fresh anymore; hard and not well seasoned. I think coming here on a weekend or during holidays is better than a normal days
Do yourself a favour and try this place! Best Fish & chips on the Island. Highly recommend the calamari!
Better fish and chips than the co-op in my opinion. The grilled tiger prawns were exceptional too, as were the calamari rings. The homemade tartare sauce is a must have too. I recommend ordering by phone if you're not planning to eat right there on the Rhyll foreshore.
Would give 0 if I could. Ordered grilled fish, got battered fish. When I went back I was accused of lying. Independent customer said they heard me ask for grilled fish. Still told I would have to pay for grilled fish. Rude staff, 6 workers in the place, with 2 other customers. Rude staff = rude service = empty shop = business for sale. Won’t return until new owners with some manners take over and sack the rude staff. Potato cakes were so greasy I couldn’t eat them. Chips were good but that’s about it. A shame there are so few good fish and chip shops on the island.
Great fish n chips Worth the wait to enjoy with a spectacular view of the Rhyll Inlet - recommended
Nice fish and chips but very very oily. The location and views are beautiful. The lady who served us was very short and not overly friendly. It was clean and tidy with lots of seating. Toilets were also nice and clean.
Well set up and professional operation for a fish and chip shop. Eclectic decorations so a different atmosphere to the norm. Loads of outdoor seating. Food was excellent maybe a bit higher prices (but it is a tourist venue during summer holiday season) and place looks popular, so parking may be an issue.
One kindly staff member was so thoughtful. My grand daughter was feeling unwell on arrival. She organised a wet cloth to sooth her, which worked a treat. Really appreciated
We discovered this on our last day's on the island. We came for lunch and discovered a range of picnic tables outside, which were perfect to eat what had ordered. We had chips, flake, calamari rings, and potato cakes and dimmies. They were delicious, perfect crunch, the chips could've had a little more seasoning, though salt and pepper were provided. Everything was top notch, we were a little sad we had just discovered the place. A superior fish and chip choice on the island.
Just visited this place today and must say its been the most disappointing fish and chips experience we've ever had. Being this close to the sea, we were expecting some fresh and tasty seafood, but what we got instead looked and tasted like something that had gone into the oil directly from the freezer. The meat felt more like chicken than fish and lacked any seasoning or flavour. We get much better fish and chips even in our local suburb in North Melbourne where there's no sea nearby.
The food today was a complete disappointment and we certainly won't be coming back to this place or recommending it to anyone we know.
Just had the seafood chowder which was full of seafood. Best I have ever had absolutely perfect
If you love your fish & chips, this is the place to go. Good food and friendly service. Lovely location too.
Awesome fish and chip pace. Not the usual formica table place, really cool maritime theme and friendly staff. The seafood chowder was amazing and delicious calamari!
The very best fish and chips ever. We go early on a Friday night 5.30pm, get plate of fish, chips and salad (fabulous dressing) and a glass of wine and sit down there to our feast. What could be better with water views. I ️ Tydes. We drive from Melbourne just to go to Tydes. Thank you. (Please bring back Skip Jack wine)
We really enjoyed our meal here. The fish batter was crispy and moist, also not too oily. We also ordered the calamari we were really impressed, will recommend for others to try!
Probably the best Fish and Chips to be found anywhere on the Island. A must visit shop, it is a beautifully presented dine in with an array of tasteful decor and snippits of Island history and fishing, the menu is really good and the qaulity of foods top notch and thoughtfully prepared. A must visit!
Great views, location and easy laid back atmosphere. Right next to the beach which is great. I would have given it a full 5 stars but I prefer the taste of the food at San Remo Coop better.
