Thornbury Guests Martial Arts - The Self Defence Experts reviews
25Amazing dojo, I’ve been going since 2017, the people and community are super friendly and welcoming! Teachers are great! Made many friends and connections over the years. I treat this place like my second home.
Does anybody actually teach Kickboxing? Is it a graded system with a a dedicated kickboxing instructor it would be great to have a experienced kickboxing teacher otherwise people can just punch kick the bags at home why would you pay extra money for KB if there's no techniques combinations and a proper KB syllabusisnt that a waste of money you're not learning nothing a lot people agree with me you need a dedicated kickboxing instructor who has a background in muay thai or kb. However can't say nothing about the JAPANESE JIU JITSU THAT IS JUST AWSONE STREET STYLE SYSTEM AND WEAPONS ON TOP MAKE IT SUPERB
Not too intimidating physicality-wise and instructors are patient and spend time to explain things one-on-one multiple times. Couldn’t be happier with Guest!
The kickboxing exercise classes are awesome. Great instructors. Pounding away on the high-quality punch/kick bags pushes my cardio fitness, tones my aging body, allows me to deal with the stresses of the day. Thoroughly recommend them.
The instructors are amazing and they are aware of each child and how to gently discipline
The kids admire the instructors
My 6yo gets so much out of going. The teach values and strength for the brain and body
I really enjoy doing martial arts at Guests. I like how the instructors run the classes. There is a mix of games and learning. It's lots of fun.
This is a wonderful, family friendly, supportive Martial Arts School. I can’t recommend it enough, and am constantly telling friends and family to come and join in! We started with my daughters doing jiu jitsu two years ago and now I go to the kickboxing classes too.
All the instructors are supportive, and make the classes fun, whilst still pushing you to be your best and give it your all. Thanks to everyone at Guests, we always look forward to out classes!
I first tried Guests martial arts about 3 years ago and found everyone to be completely welcoming and lovely. I had to stop due to personal reasons, but now 3 years later i've managed to get myself back there and had the exact same experience. Amazing team, and great effective training. Highly recommend.
High impact, low effort. Doesn't require a high level of fitness to be effective. Doesn't rely on giving and taking hits until one person is down. Perfect for people who want a style that's adaptive to their needs. If you feel you are too small, or too weak to be effective in defending yourself, this style will teach you otherwise.
The trainers are excellent, very encouraging, and allow you to work at your own pace. This is not to say that you don't work hard, in fact the complete opposite. You always leave feeling like you have just gone to the next level with your fitness.
This is one of the best family things we do. Our son trains twice a week with Senseis who are amazing role models. The program is so well thought out and run. For the parents, we attend adult kickboxing fitness at the same time our son trains - so instead of being spectators, we are all training together. Thanks Craig and the team.
I started training at Guest Martial Arts at the age of thirteen in the mid-2000's. I met phenomenal students and teachers who have turned into life-long friends. They taught me patience, kindness and an awareness of the positive effect you can have on others. The owner Craig has a contagious passion for martial arts and propensity for generosity that leaves a noticeable impression.
The school has only impoved since then and I'm blown away by the sense of community and positive impact it has on young students.
For the adults, jututsu is a martial art that works the brain as much as the body. The school attracts many bright and engaging minds from all backgrounds and you'll be amazed by the people you meet.
Would absolutely recommend.
I have been training on and off with Craig and his team for over 15 years and only distance keeps me from going 3 or 4 times a week. Standard is 10/10 knowledge also 10/10 with a great friendly safe place to take your kids or yourself for all your martial arts training needs. Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.
Love the team at GMA. My daughter has been there for 5yrs or so and with the help of all the trainers has progressed to Black belt but more importantly gained much in the way of confidence and perseverance. It's a great place for the family to train, I love the kickboxing.
The program has been fantastic for our son. His confidence has blossomed. The staff are wonderful and keep the kids engaged.
I send my boy here, and they help him with everything - physical fitness, coordination, social situations and confidence. The instructors are fabulous, sensitive and supportive.
Best place to learn martial arts, making new friends and get healthy mind and body.can't recommend enough. Staffs and owner are super friendly and helpful. Fees are cheap, you don't have to pay 1 big lump sum at the beginning of the year or terms, and if you want to have a break, you can put your membership on hold at no cost and resume when you are ready. Been here over 5 years and regret not been her sooner.
I've been struggling to find the right martial arts to suit not only my time but my personality and philosophy. GMA ticked all the boxes for me: family oriented, easygoing and professional instructors and crew, experienced in traditional and modern teachings and most of all fun! I've been a member for over a year now and I am so pleased that I walk with better and smarter confidence than ever before. Thank you GMA, looking forward to many more years to come.
As someone totally new to martial arts, I’ve felt nothing but welcomed to both Brunswick and Thornbury dojo’s.if you go on holidays all it takes is an email to pause payments which suits me as I often travel.
I must admit learning to fight is an addiction I never knew was waiting dormant in me.as a short, small framed woman, it gives me some sense of empowerment I’ve never had before. Recommend for girls/ women of any age, and any experience.
Domo arigato gozaimashitaaaaa
This is one of the best Martial Arts schools in Melbourne and for kids martial arts I would rate it as the best!
My eldest boy trained here for some time and as well has learning effective self defence he was also taught life lessons and encouraged to be courteous and kind. It reflected in hi improvement at school.
My youngest will start training here soon.
Great place, great instructors and great environment!
