The Whistle Stop Tavern / Baringo Food and Wine Co. reviews
15Lovely gardens and cafe. Staff and service are great. I wish they didn’t use plastic containers for the iced drinks when we “ate in”.
Booked a Saturday night only to come and have the pork ribs, 4 to be exact and 1 kids calamari and chips. As always they tasted great but for $41 and the smallest thinnest rack you have ever seen, never again. And the kids sizes used to be big to but after the kids waited ages and their meal came out with the mains there was almost no chips. When i questioned a staff member they came back after speaking to the kitchen with the response "prices have gone up and portions have gone down". Seriously! Couldn't believe the honesty but you've lost our business. Oh and asked twice for the table to be cleaned after the coasters were stuck to the table and when the lady came out to clean she said it was sticky because of the wood but then wiped it and actually cleaned it. Thanks.
Bad coffee, 25 minutes for burnt food, pancakes burnt, I didn’t know you could do that, chicken burger burnt till there was no chicken left. Very disappointing, won’t be coming back.
Nice spot, but very slow service. 20min wait on a flat white when they looked pretty quiet. Spoils the experience.
I was under the impression we were booking for a restaurant, but turned up to see that only the pub area was open.
We walked in and there was a man with a big bell, yelling numbers for raffle tickets for a meat tray right next to our tiny table, that was shoved up against the wall.
On top of that, the noise that carried over from the crowd of Friday night drinkers made it absolutely impossible to talk to the person directly in front of me. I couldn't hear a thing.
We sat down for probably 30 seconds at best and then decided to leave as the atmosphere was chaotic.
I can't give an honest review about the service or food, as we didn't stick around to find out.
A very inviting venue, friendly staff and exceptional owners Gary and Mal the team make your visit a wonderful experience with amazing food and service.
Thank you all, you are our go to place for family get togethers.
Super expensive extremely average burgers. The Crab burger was not edible. When notified they did not offer compensation in any form. A huge disappointment for the once a year treat families can afford to buy out these days.
My neighbours took me for an autumn drive to escape the city. Together we discovered the Whistle Stop steak & Guinness pie, chips & gravy. We had planned to continue our exploring, but settled in at this cosy tavern.
Steak & Guinness Pie.
At $25 each, did not expect the meat to be dry and chips not fresh, hence a very underwhelming experience. Had high hopes given it was featured on the Macedon Ranges Autumn Pie & Tart festival map.
Tried the Autumn Pie &Tart Trail Steak and Guinness Pie. Loved the non-traditional round pie shape, light puff pastry and rich Guinness flavours but the large chunky beef was tough. Our highlight was the crisp chips and perfect gravy, which was fought over and devoured. Salad is not included, but was a side add-on.
Service was great, atmosphere was cosy.
+1 star for the atmosphere +1 friendly staff. Otherwise the burgers had too much sauce and we asked for one without jalepenos but it came with them.
Great pub type food, generous servings. Fantastic service. Lovely large outdoor garden. And front courtyard.
Party of 4 on a table suitable for 2 - could not even fit the plates. They try and fit too many people into the area. Food is average. Prices are reasonable. Service is average. This place is overrated by the locals, it’s just another pub. Underwhelming.
A bit disappointing from last year. Prices are good but chicken was a bit dry. Serves are generous and food came quite quickly. Had to ask for water to be put at the table.
Busy for a reason, be sure to book. Sensational meals, young crew but great service, can be noisy once the crowd gets going and great atmosphere, cool to see the wine cellar below the glass floor. Dined at night, didn't visit during the day but told just as great. Will be back.
